How can you complain about the track this weekend !!!? It was an awesome and technical track !!!

We are all getting mad when we get a follow the leader track with no technical sections so STOP complaining about track like Daytona this weekend !

Ask Tomac if the track was too much this weekend he will mock you !

We should get technical track every weekend where the best riders can actualy make a difference from the rest of the field !

Geez, we are talking about the best supercross riders of the planet here ! Let their skills and creativity speaks !

I love technical tracks and Daytona included. Move the sand, put the whoops right out of the turn and do something to slow the riders before entering the rhythm and it’s perfect! Minor adjustments make big differences.

I agree that the rhythm section looked ultra gnarly. Those short distances between landing and takeoff have me holding my breath. Amazing how good those guys are at doing it over and over.

I love sand sections though, the deeper the better. There were a ton of passes in the sand.

Rutted out whoops are the most dangerous part of a supercross track. Anyone ever say that they should be removed for safety reasons? Doing a section, not doing a section, going as fast as humanly possible, going 2-2 instead of 3-1, or even doing all 4 is ENTIRELY up to the rider. How is the track to blame, ever? It's exactly like saying it was the guns fault that someone got shot. These guys do this all day every day. They are completely capable of making the decision on their own. Your opinion is your opinion. I just don't understand why the need for a babysitter when it comes to track design for the best supercross riders in the world is needed. Just like every aspect of life, it's their decision to do or not do things on the track.

How about a whoop section that goes around a corner, then all the way down the following straight away? Since they’d be closer together on the inside and farther apart on the outside, you could carry momentum and hop around the outside or try and skim them on the shorter inside.

How about a flat 180 degree corner? Tip toe around the shorter inside line or power slide around the longer outside line.

Things that are technical (increase mistakes) but also slow speed (safer).

All 11 of them have been on the main page. I'm not sure where or who he was writing for before but he moved his column over to Vital at the start of this year.

Writes one after each round.

The topic aside, his article is probably getting a lot of attention, which is not a bad thing if you're running a business.

I agree with you. The sports evolving into something that i think is the wrong direction. The rhythms were redundant and way too long. Like 5 corners on the whole track. It did lead to good racing but was very very over the top with risk.

Yes you morans mx/sx is risky but going in a direction that leads to career altering injuries as opposed to a simple fracture or tear isnt the right way to go.

Designing tracks with obstacles that are challenging yet not disastrous should you miscalculate by 6 inches should be the goal.

Tampa's sand section from last year is a good example of a section with a ton of difficulty but relatively low risk. The section directly before it where seely crashed and was in a wheelchair for months and out for the entire year is an example where theres no room for error and the cost is massive. Daytonas track was basically that type of risk the entire time.

Great post. Making supercross sightly less dangerous won't ruin it. Too many injuries as it stands.

Chris, i look forward to your articles. I may agree or disagree, but that doesn’t matter. I like to think of things in a different light. So for me, it’s another form of bench racing. That’s all. Keep up the good work man.

I saw air fences along the edge of the track, but no concrete barriers.

Steve could work a deal with Carmichael to present three different track designs for Daytona. Start a Poll a month and a half before the event to let us Vitards vote which track. Oh the carnage....

Typical comment by people who would not be able to clear a double on a sx track, and less so ever cleared the jumps or combos we are talking about.

If you have, you would also know that clearing it one time is one thing, clearing and thinking straight after 15min with pulse at 90-95% of MHR is another thing. First thing that goes is the capability to think fwd, second is capability to take rational decisions. We don't think security for one lap Sprints in optimal conditions, we do it for how they look after 6 races, and 15min with your body going into conservation mode.

You don't know my credentials, So to call me a "typical person" gives your argument no grounds. Also who says Cooksey has the credentials to write these articles? I mean aren't all of us Vital Forum members seasoned super cross pro's????

The title of your article was "Daytona Deathcross", how could you classify that as anything but disparaging?

I finally decided to read the article, and it has motivated me to give my 1st ever Vital thumbs down.

Whoops around a corner have been tried . It doesn’t work unless the corner is a huge sweeper . Not doable in small confines of SX .

Wow. .it's like you slapped everyone's mama. If you had a history of sticking your thumb in people's eyes I guess the reaction would be somewhat understandable. Bottom line, people ought to remember what it was like to be decent. That's as nice as I can say it. Ok, fuk rude is good too. I hope you get a Pulitzer and the haters hatin get chicken pox.

Bottom line here is MX/SX is a risky sport and I've seen a dude break his collarbone on a turn track. Add in jumps and the risk of injury goes through the roof.

These track builders try keep spectators and riders happy for 17 Rnds whilst always considering safety for all. Daytona is a unique venue and gives the builders opportunity to change up from the usual layouts of a football or baseball stadium.

My apologies to Chris if I offended elsewhere in this topic but I thought "Deathcross" was a bit extreme.

I concur regarding the tracks from the 90's - 2000.

Nowdays, it's pretty much the same sections layed out differently in each stadium.

Just a thought, how about a very simple/easy track with say 40% of the usual amount of obstacles? Nothing to separate the riders will equate to close racing....just a thought gents, so constructive criticism will be appreciated.

Thought it looked like a typical Daytona track honestly. I kind of miss the weird little obsticles that Gary Bailey would throw in there and I wish RC would get a little more creative with it and maybe slow it down a bit but othwise it seemed alright. It was pretty damn short too IMO on a track thas t soft it seems like it would benifit to make the lap times at least 10-15 seconds longer maybe like a leg to a step on step off plus another feature.

It was "slowed down" a couple of years ago and it kind of sucked. Slowed down generally means more turns and switchbacks and a lot of follow the leader.
