Why not just let the tracks break down? Also why not bring back lime? Its fine when its not dumped in water

This might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard !!!

So, instead of removing the ridiculously outdated “Double-displacement rule” that permits 450cc motocross bikes, a SOLUTION is to make the tires crappier???

You’re claiming tires with less grip will slow riders’ down and cause less track wear. The supplemental “Double-Displacement Rule” should have been modified every two years, like a “Balance of Performance Initiative” works in auto racing. The AMA Classes are still 125cc and 250cc, with a supplemental rule permitting 4-strokes larger displacement. The stupid rule caused this.
I do like that you offer solutions to serious problems and not just complaints, like most Vitards.

Tell that to Mike Bell, Jimmy Weinert, or Hakan Carlqvist. They were tiny little jockeys weren’t they?

Probably the dumbest poll I’ve ever seen...let the tracks get gnarly. People are too soft these days, not the tracks

Do you think shorter knobs would help the tracks hold up better? Doesn’t the FIM require short knobs for ISDE type racing?
ISDE requires a type of tire that is framed road legal in the EU I believe. So yes, it’s a short knob design.

Malcolm Stewart won a 250SX regional title while weighing in at around 210lbs...pulled holeshots at TLD with that weight if not a lil more onboard.

Less knobbies, less grip?

You guys must have never tried a rear trials tire...
Ride a trials tire in mud or soft dirt, then get back to us...

Forgive me for replaying my broken record yet again, but if the AMA would simply lower the weight limit by 25 pounds, then everything, from injuries to race quality to track breakdown to two-stroke participation to the viability of smaller displacement four-stroke engines to fan interest to riders' career length to the bikes we would all eventually get to ride, improves greatly. Good God, it is longgggggggggggggggggg past time, said the old dude who might as well be shouting at the moon.

Broken records are not always correct. Weight loss takes lots of money, something the sport does not have. It also does not have the money to develop a two stroke that would be "on par" with the current four strokes on an SX track. Two strokes are done at the pro level, sad to say, but it is over.

Someone posted the Daytona race from 2003 yesterday. Take notice to how slow the 125's were going, it looks like a weekend SX race at your local fair grounds...

That looks to be what people want.. synthetic SX. so every one can go the same speed.

It's not like there was no ruts in the 80's and 90's. Imagine spinning up the face of a jump and coming up short cause lack of knobbies.

Bad Idea

This should be something the promoters should be figuring out not tire manufacturers. Maybe Feld should hire a soil specialist or consult a geologist to analyze the dirt at each round to try and come up with a better mix or different modifiers to use.
Maybe try some different techniques when building the track. Do they pack down the dirt a little bit at a time or just dump and sculpt? The biggest problem I see is the lack of reinvestment by Feld. From the outside looking in, it appears that they are trying to get as much profit as possible with putting the least amount in.

Missing my point, more traction and less power means larger riders are at a disadvantage. We aren’t there yet, but look at road racing, any big MotoGP Stars?

There have already been 2 names for asphalt and motocross.

I was not really talk about super moto, more of a full on sx track that is made out of man made materials with no dirt.

That would make all the guys that don't like changing conditions happy.

No I have not, I am not for any of it, I think the dirt is fine the way it is, but some think it's too difficult to race on.

For the record, I'm fine with it too. Just wish they had more dirt to give the tracks more personality/ technicality

No tire works in mud, hence adding 20 seconds to lap times when it's wet or shaving jumps due to subpar... GRIP!!!

Soft dirt no problem. Trials tires don't depend on the small "cutting" edge of the knob - the whole carcass deforms to find grip.

Hard pack (ie most tracks) I think you'd be surprised how they ride compared to a knobby.

The woodcross you posted would fix all the rut issues.. lol Hell we don't even have to make new tires to do it..

There is no motorcycle with more traction or more power than a MotoGP bike so why does it favor lighter riders? Early 90s 250 2 strokes had less traction and power than today's 450s yet Jeff Stanton won alot and he was a big dude.

Dig up the adobe from Carlsbad. Haul it from stadium to stadium. Roll it. If the course is blue groove every week the tires will sort themselves out. Everyone will be on K-180s in no time.

Or go back to 125s, 250s.

Or rent a some extra skid-steers and groom the whole track on every commercial break.

In Detroit I was sitting in front of the split rhythm and the rhythm after, they groomed both whole lanes in between every round of the triple crown. The triple crown format is better for track maintenance and lapped riders.

There should be no more horsepower on a supercross track than what a 250cc 2t puts out. 500cc 2t didn’t race sx back when because it was “too much”. Lets not circumvent the problem by reducing the periphials. If thats the case, you want to slow them down, cut suspension travel in half...thanks for thinking outside the box cooksey but tires are not the problem.

Should be simple: covered stadium use lime as needed. Outside stadium, rain in forecast, no lime.

Road legal is a DOT regulation and 13mm knob limit is FIM. The short knob design is intended to minimize soil deformation and erosion. The only countries I know of that don’t require them (for enduro) are in North America and Australia.

500s were great Supercross bikes
