Next week I’m going to mute the TV and put some music on. RC sounds like a fucking broken record. He says the same shit over and over sounding like he’s about to run out of breath trying to make his point. When they finally realize Tomac went down (like 30 seconds after the fact) Ralph casually says, “Tomac went down.” I thought some of the previous broadcasts were bad, but this was just dismal!
You people are a bunch of crying babies.
You mean realists unlike yourself? Approving a substandard broadcast says alot about you. At least some of us care about how our sport is portrayed on the big stage.

I’m probably twice your age retard. Idiots like you who get off listening to Ralph and Mr. Webb Wagon are why nothing will ever improve.

That's the point, we didn't miss it like you did with the point of this thread.

I normally dont say anything about the announcing. But last night was a joke for the broadcast. You have Webb coming like a mad man and they are totally off topic. Do they not use spotters to help them in the booth at all ?

That was a major whiff by RC and cringe-worthy. I mean, doesn't he have a monitor showing what the heck is going on on the track?

You NEVER see Tomac crash. You only see him picking up his back afterwards. If the did not show him picking up his bike you would have never known he crashed.

Yeah, I should amend to say the visual of the crash didn't happen on the screen. I was listening to RC nattering on, when I heard the crowd- then they cut to Tomac and it was obvious he was picking his bike up (so it was obvious he had crashed). As it happened, Ralph had to back into it and pretend it was less of an event than it was.
What I would have expected: RC to cut short his story, go "whoah! Tomac has crashed! etc."

You could see Tomac picking up his bike in the pop out box or whatever it’s called. If I have time I’ll try and figure out and screen capture it. It was a Kawasaki that looked like Tomac. This is what made me go look at the leader board because there are timing loops at different places around the track and that is how I confirmed that Tomac had lost several spots so that was indeed the downed rider you could see on the screen for a second.

I’ve learned to listen to the background noise and when you hear the crowd roar, you know something happened. This was just longer than usual. I rewound NBC replay to 2:42:39 clear as day (sarcasm).

If the crowd is screaming all the sudden, something happened that’s worth mentioning. Hint to the announcers...

STOP TALKING TO THE MONITORS

STOP TALKING TO THE MONITORS

An old school radio announcer would be appalled at this.

As others have said, direction/production is not the responsibility of the booth commentators. Those that are responsible are meant to be feeding the crew information, orchestrating the camera feed etc.

Take the commentators out of the box and guess what? We still miss Tomac going down.

Everything's bigger in Texas, except for your eyes.

Any avid follower would have noticed instantly that Roczen came out of the first corner roller section, and Tomac didn't. This was before live timing picked it up (because Tomac had yet to cross the finish line).

Regardless of the split screen, or the timing that was yet to be updated, Tomac was very close to Roczen for a long while, then all of a sudden he wasn't. Instantly I was like "WHERE IS TOMAC!", followed then by looking at timing and scoring that then picked it up after Tomac crossed the finish. Then I waited... and waited... and waited for Ralph to surely interrupt RC's ramblings, but nope. 30 seconds later... "It looks like Tomac has gone down."

Painful.

I don’t know if Ken Roczen is in the American version of this game but he isn’t in the copy I have?
If your going to talk off a script for 2 minutes during a key moment of the race at least have the info of the game correct yeah?
Also I’m shocked Ricky wasn’t more impressed with Webb doing that quad. I saw it and thought “they have to notice that?” Maybe get some insight into if anyone else had tried it during the day??? I think Daniel Blair ended up mentioning it.
Anyways let’s get Steve Mathes in the booth with JT and Weege.

I have nothing against Ricky but his Roczenmania is sometimes painful. Be neutral RC.

seriously. We can pick on the announcing all day long, but this season has been absolutely AWFUL with the production crew missing major moments of the race...while crowd goes insane...and every single person watching on tv screaming "Where is Tomac??!!" and the announcing crew saying NOTHING about it. Has happened time and again this year - it's like they've been told to talk about nothing but what is on the screen at the moment.

They ARE only suppose to talk about what is on the screen at the moment. Announcers broadcasting a different race that we are not watching would be horrible. That’s how all sports broadcasting works. The problem is whoever is directing the show and picking which cameras to show while the race is live.

My complaint about the announcers in the booth is that they either can’t form an articulate sentence half the time or they don’t bother to comment on impressive things that are captured on camera. I think Ralph is good at his role and knows a lot more than he leads on but have a feeling he is being directed to dumb it down and announce in a way that ends up giving the sport a cheaper feel.

RC is a legend of the sport but a great live sports announcer he is not. He seems to get lost in his thoughts and stumbles over his words a LOT. Not every person can do everything extremely well and that’s totally fine! I think he does well in moderation, as in a third wheel at certain events.

The pit reporters and Daniel Blaire on the floor have been fantastic this year, I must say though. It seems like they are doing their jobs very well and asking interesting and REAL questions that force the riders to answer in a way that doesn’t revolve around reading sponsors off a pitboard. Kudos to them!

TL;DR - I think a lot of things we have an issue with all stems from the team that is behind the scenes and how they are choosing to present the show.
No, Weege should be the broadcaster plain and simple. If you've remember during some mid 2000s nationals Pingree was the color guy and was very good. That would be the best pair IMO.

In this situation Ricky kept telling a story to make it seem like it's the reason they're not mentioning what they missed when the crown erupted....meanwhile Ralph and techs are searching several monitors, rewinding another, getting info from other commentators/techs etc. so they can report it accurately. That's why Ricky rambled on, and Ralph didn't interupt. Ralph gets excited and interrupts for much smaller things, as history shows. You can hear it in Ricky's voice, he renews the story right when it's ending (when ET3 crashed) and trys to stretch it out, and Ralph is either silent, or sounding distracted...until they figure it all out and immediately report it.
Theyre watching multiple screens from different cameras, sometimes they're only watching screens from specific dedicated cameras completely different from what TV sees.
New network, new employees, new systems, they're dialing it all in still.

RC is one of the best if not the best ever to race, however he is awful at commentating. Some people are quick witted, RC is not. Honestly it is painful to listen to them, there is no continuity with these two. It wasn't perfect with Fro either but he could carry a conversation alot better then RC. The casual fan, like my wife and friends wives, are like who is this other retard stammering and talking nonsense? Just sucks we finally get live racing after all these years and these are the two best color commentators??

I have to post here to also display my displeasure with the broadcasting. I am grateful that NBC has taken on supercross, but the cameras never seem to be capturing what viewers as a whole want to see. In the past when a rider went down there was always at least one camera and sometimes several that could show what happened. IMO they do not have enough cameras as they seem to miss this often. As for the commentary I am not sure what so many people didn't like about Emig, but I can tell you as much of a Carmichael fan as I have been this is a major step backwards. The whole thing from a long time viewers perspective is a mess. Hope they fix it soon, but I will be watching no matter what.

I think they are in a location where they only see what we see on the screen. Unless I am wrong they probably didn’t know about it until getting an audio prompt in their ears immediately before they replayed his crash. Let’s give them a break on this. They have a job that requires them to comment about what is on the screen so they focus on that. If live timing isn’t on the screen they don’t have the same ability we do at home to look at it on another device. Nor do they have the time to concentrate on live timing since they are commenting on the current screen view. Yeah, they’ve missed a few things and given us a few dumb comments but basically they seem to be doing as well as it’s been over the last few years.
Other people saw it on their screen.

I haven’t read all 4 pages of complaining so I don’t know if this has been pointed out.

The producers tell them what is going to be on the monitors and that dictates what they will talk about.

Still doesn't explain how they missed it when us viewers at home saw it.

This has been one of my pet peeves for a loooong time. Do you see any other sport doing this? Talk to your audience as if they have a basic understanding of what is happening.
