Just because the AMA is inconsistent with issuing penalties doesn't mean Deegan & Marchbanks didn't break the rules. To everyone obsessed with the track markers, take that out of the equation, hitting the markers had nothing to do with the penalty. If he'd have hit the inside line on the left turn, drifted wide and crossed the markers, but came back and still hit the outside on the right turn, he'd be fine. Instead, he hit the inside line on the left turn, then crossed over and hit the inside line on the right turn, and that's against the rules...

If the AMA was aware of other violations and issued no penalty they were wrong. I don't agree with the Ferry penalty at all. The lead in light thing was unnecessarily complicated and in that regard they were wrong. I could go on but you get the point. The AMA is having a rough go and the Deegan call may be the only thing they've done right in the last several weeks.

As I said I'm not here to defend the AMA. If the AMA saw video of another racer going through the markers and chose not to issue a penalty I'll be the first in line to call them out. But when they do something right? I don't get the outrage and I definitely don't get the comparison to the nationals.

Actually they went away from the yellow Acerbis markers before last season and the markers for outdoors and SX have been white since. I don’t disagree with the infraction and rule should be black and white, the problem is they haven’t been black and white in their decisions so far this year and have made head scratching calls and non-calls….it’s the inconsistency of how the AMA has enforced their rules that is the issue and this is just another example and that is what is upsetting…and now Matthes says they are no longer talking to the media about it…they need...

You lost me on this. I don’t see this as a straw man argument at all. But you also mention complicated… What is less complicated than just letting them race. If some goon does something egregious, penalize the crap out of them.

If a “lapper” get the holeshot, how long does it take the top guys to get around him? Why is it any different later? Everyone is trying to fix the lapper problem. It’s not really a lapper problem, it’s a Vince problem I personally think some of them ( not Vince )get in the way, by trying too hard to get out of the way.

In Diffey’s case, that argument doesn’t fly, because he’s been around dirt bikes his entire life. The whole family was part of the mx- flat track community back in Australia. He probably has more of racing background than any lead commentator supercross has ever had. That doesn’t mean you have to like him, just that the lack of knowledge is not the problem.

They have pre canned scripted segments on different riders, they come up with personal interest stories that they are determined to tell, and then regardless of the racing action they show whatever rider they scripted a story about whether that rider is on the side of the track with a flat, floundering in 16th or battling for the lead they are going to tell their story and you’re gonna watch that rider… The thing that the broadcast critics are trying to explain, let the racing be the story during the race. Between races, tell whatever story you wish you tell...
