This is Charlie Dunaway jumping it. I think Mad Mike jumped it to.
This was so HUGE!!!! I’ll never forget that day. Mad mike hit it. So did Mike Katin!!! Awesome! Glad you posted!

Even Stewart was saying he wouldn’t do that.

No video, so I know this post is worthless.

BUT

I watched J-law jump a roller into a PEAKED OUT whoop section at the Anaheim throwback track (2009/2010???).....

A buddy of mine and I were sitting on the first base side of angels stadium during practice and watched J-law seem to set up for the attempt, but backed out, every lap of the practice.

On what had to be the last lap of practice we watched Jason dump the clutch and absolutely send it.....within a second of launching, Jason shook his head mid air (knowing his attempt was futile) and frame-cased a whoop harder than I have ever seen.

He immediately pulled off the track in pain, but from that day forward I was a fan....punk mantailtiy to the side, any dude with stones that big earned my respect....
I don’t think any unbiased MX fan would argue. jason was one of the most talented ever on a bike. Right up there with JS, TP and MC

Doug Henry

Broome Tioga Sports Center, Binghamton, New York..

After the start, there was an uphill/ downhill deal. There were two "ski jumps" on the downhill, and Dog Henry somehow figured out a way to double them on his factory Honda CR125. The jumps were not supposed to be doubled and were not sculpted nor built to be a big double.

I have some home video of them somewhere. I think he was the only one to make the jumps the entire weekend. And that was when they raced the 500cc class as well...

Doug Henry was a bad ass...
I was there that day and totally remember that. I was standing along the fence just before the table top jump near the main road. It was insane. He barely made that left turn before the table top jump he was going so fast. That day he became my favorite motocross racer.

IIRC Jeff Emig was the only other person to even attempt it. He tried it once and he cased it really hard on the second jump that wasn’t meant to be a double. Doug Henry was gaining like 2 seconds a lap by hitting this huge downhill ski jump double that wasn’t a double.

I remember watching Guy Cooper in the early 90's, can't recall the venue but he was practically clearing the whole whoop section.

Also a stand out for me was Muddy Creek, James on his SuperMini doing something insane, think the only other dude to nail it was Riddle.

The story of LaRocco's Leap? Was it intended to be jumped when they built it or did Mike just hold it wide open and pray?

I believe that was Pontiac, the same night he was quading a section before anybody did quads.

I think Laroccos leap was a replica of a jump Mike had at home or something like that. Before the leap existed they had a jump at the base and they turned hard left after they got to the top. Everyone would jump into the face and then bounce or ride over the top and turn left. One year in practice Broc Glover comes up the face of it and unbeknownst to him the one and only Danny "Magoo" Chandler decides he can jump all the way to the top while following Glover. Magoo made it sort of but he went bouncing past Broc and into the track fence while Glover is looking back in disbelief shaking his head.

There was the year in the 80's at Pontiac where they had two doubles right after they dropped back in the stadium. Sky Cooper and RJ were triple singling it on Saturday and putting on a helluva show. Ultimately RJ quit doing it on Sunday because Bailey was quicker through the section going double double and beat him on Saturday. I think Guy kept doing it on Sunday and throwing huge cross up/whips entertaining the crowd.

about 4:45 in the video

I remember being a pee wee rider at 59th and Douglass in OKC. My dad got my brother and me out of class early because he heard TP was riding that night. Went out and watched him absolutely shred his RM80. I believe Marley and TP both hit the "tunnel jump" on minis. Only a handful of riders even tried it, Cooper being the first, I believe. It was completely blind from the takeoff and had a slight turn to it. Gnarly, especially for the time.

Axton, VA.... David Bailey's old Supercross track.... Bradshaw hit a massive uphill - it's in Gary Bailey's "Pro's at Practice & Play" video. It was big.... really big.

man I sure miss that track........we had lots of fun pounding laps there in the 90's That jump was Huge and totally blind.....Robbie would come out and float around that place so effortlessly and so fucking fast I'd pull off and just watch him.

He looked like he was riding a different track than I was and I was a mid to front of the pack A rider back then......

Both the day, and night tracks were a blast! My first race at 59th was in 1980, and I was forever hooked. Drove out by it a few years ago, sad to see it gone. Still could see a few traces of it though, not really sure when it closed for good. Last time I attended a race there was in summer 02...... Interstate was fun too, OKC had some great tracks back in the day!

Remember Stewart doing that rhythm section at the MEC a few years ago? RV tried it for a lap or two and then crashed. It was nuts. I also remember Stewart doing some crazy rhythm section at the Paris supercross one year.

I remember that, I was there and saw it first hand. That was a hairball jump - straight up, and landing 4-5 whoops in. Nuts. He was the only one doing it!

Yea, I remember watching him trying to make that turn down by the road. How he got the bike turned is beyond me.

That hit was sketch city and was never designed to have been jumped!

I gotta post up the Videos on Youtube

God bless him, but that was Stew in a nutshell. Do something unbelievably crazy, then have a minor tip-over...then freak out and crash his brains out. Love that dude, but damn.

So badass. I would have to have those faces fixed everyday though. After those ruts harden, I can only imagine cross rutting off one of those booters...

I'll say Suicide Mountain at Saddleback - going back old school. It wasn't supposed to be jumped, but considering the technology of the bikes back then and the track conditions made it pretty cool to watch as a spectator. Hats off to anybody who can jump anything from the past, present and future.
