I remember him doing this in front of Reed. Blew me away.

Unfortunately,. that was typical for Stew. Doing things nobody else does and then yardsales a lap later on a normal obstacle. Man I wish he was still racing without the yardsales.

It did not bite he, he accidentally wheelied on the way to a jump and it got ugly , he then got back going and was setting the fastest lap times in 18th place

Set fastest laps in 18th place Haha ya that was awesome. After being all dazed and confused , hops back on, clicks it some more and sets fastest laps.

Doug Henry

Broome Tioga Sports Center, Binghamton, New York..

After the start, there was an uphill/ downhill deal. There were two "ski jumps" on the downhill, and Dog Henry somehow figured out a way to double them on his factory Honda CR125. The jumps were not supposed to be doubled and were not sculpted nor built to be a big double.

I have some home video of them somewhere. I think he was the only one to make the jumps the entire weekend. And that was when they raced the 500cc class as well...

Doug Henry was a bad ass...

No video, so I know this post is worthless.

BUT

I watched J-law jump a roller into a PEAKED OUT whoop section at the Anaheim throwback track (2009/2010???).....

A buddy of mine and I were sitting on the first base side of angels stadium during practice and watched J-law seem to set up for the attempt, but backed out, every lap of the practice.

On what had to be the last lap of practice we watched Jason dump the clutch and absolutely send it.....within a second of launching, Jason shook his head mid air (knowing his attempt was futile) and frame-cased a whoop harder than I have ever seen.

He immediately pulled off the track in pain, but from that day forward I was a fan....punk mantailtiy to the side, any dude with stones that big earned my respect....

Hawkstone ?
I remember Tortelli trying to double that one jump that no one else did at hawkstone a few years ago (06 maybe?). Unfortunately he didn’t have enough room to get on the brakes for the left hander immediately after the “landing” but it was damn cool to see him do it a couple times.

Rose Bowl in 1983 is where todays supercross leaps began when Donnie Cantaloupi made two jumps and a table into one huge jump while a few were going double table and the rest were going single single table. It was a huge leap in 83.

Magoo told Donnie he was going to try it but Donnie did it first. Magoo, Donnie and Jim Holley were the only ones to do it, Magoo had a career best finish, Holley had his best finish up to that point and Cantaloupi crashed out on it in qualifiers.

2002 Atlanta SX - Pastrana found a line after the finish across the start straight where he was able to use the berm for first turn to leap over a roller starting a long rhythm section and quad into the turn. No normal human would have even looked at it. Windham started doing it right after Pastrana and ended up clipping the last jump, endoing into the turn and breaking his femur. Nobody did it after that.

I remember the quad at Tampa last year only Hill and Baggett were hitting, Baggett ended up in the safety nets the one time right in front of me lol. Brings up a point, people better not under estimate Hill this year he LOVES the big bike

I was gonna say the same one. I was there on press day watching and watched stew practicing that section. No one else could do it, either class. He was amazing on that bike.

One year at hi point they made the up hill top roll over a little to tempting for some.. They later knock the lip off the jump so one one could make it.

This is Charlie Dunaway jumping it. I think Mad Mike jumped it to.

That jump freaked me out the first time I did it, but it was so smooth when you landed that it became easy to do. Just needed the balls to it.

...and he did it on a 125. I remember seeing the footage and Reed clipped the first triple in. It was all technique and not motor.

Here you go. It's a Spanish broadcast, I couldn't find one in English.

That was at the Ironman two years ago on press day. He was using a little curb to jump a wall, Stewart-style, and we tweaked it before next practice before someone lawn-darted big time. It was amazing but also very risky. If someone that lacked Dean's talent or equipment tried it, it might have gone really wrong...

This is why we dont see many recent examples in this thread, because every time someone pulls the pin, it gets put back in.. back in the day folk jumped stuff that wasnt supposed to be jumped, and one by one people had a go, The double at Hawkestone, that Jobe jumped, i rode there a few weeks after and a guy cleared it on a 250 , who wasnt even one of the top guys , cos he had seen it done, and knew it wasnt as far as it looked. They filled it in not long after .

That said, the Ironman thing was sketchy, and i agree with you , plenty of places to send it at Ironman without that

We built that to be jumped originally. And the roller kept getting pushed further and further back from press day to race day until only Dean and Reed were jumping it regularly during the motos.

It ultimately wasn’t faster, Dungey passed Reed while not jumping it. But it was cooler.

PhilG, it was just never meant to be jumped, and so it was built as a wall to slow guys down. Dean was very creative with what he did, but it was absolutely going to cause problems -- this was on Thursday and we had a day of amateur racing to run yet before the pros got out there on Saturday. When you're the responsible party or race promoter, your thinking changes when it comes to matters of obvious risk and having a gut feeling that something might go wrong...

And don't forget Johnny O'Mara at the 1984 Daytona SX leap; made Gary Bailey rethink the whole concept of digging out those long "gator pits." It happens just past the 13-minute mark.
