Exactly. That was a very carefully worded, lawyered-up release if I ever saw one. Lime should never be used in this industry ever again after this debacle. I don't care if has been used for decades, that doesn't make it the right solution.
There are several other safer products out there that will work in lieu of of lime. I've listened to multiple pod costs now in which riders were interviewed and this isn't the first that they have had irritation from lime in the soil. So let's be perfectly clear, This is the first time of being burned this badly on a grand scale. Irritation is inaccurate, burning is accurate. I hope they make things right for each rider impacted by this. This was a massive screw up.

Dear Feld Crew,

That's an excellent start and I hope things go smoothly from here. In the future, there's a way to avoid these problems by going back to how they did it in Oakland...in 1979...Sand.

Lots of Sand.

But, don't invite Weinert and his paddle tire. People will get just as pissed off as they are about San Diego.

They can only tech one bike, right? Which is done hours before racetime? So these two teams took the bet that it would pour and saved their equipment? While the top factory teams would most likely not want to take the chance of having to race sub standard bikes if it didnt pour....and the poor privateers only had one bike anyway? right? Smile

Sucks that lessons always seem to have to be learned the hard way but hopefully this will result in safer tracks for the riders and cleaner tracks for the bikes. Nice to see them addressing it and reaching out to help those that were affected.

Hopefully everyone involved is fully compensated and hopefully everyone who was injured doesn’t have any long lasting effects and heals up quick.

Bummer situation but hopefully something positive will come out of this and it will result in better tracks in the future.

It's actually a pretty fast response, considering it was still unfolding yesterday. Hopefully they don't screw it up now. They need to handle this right and follow through.

Which don't include any of the vagina's that have been on here with their law books and Jr. Chemistry kits for 3 days.

so there's about 42 SX practice tracks around so-cal....some of them factory team only....do they use lime? Can we get all the tracks...Supercross and Motocross in the area to take a pledge to be "Lime Free"?

On a side note...I know Stu (CMC) use to dump big boxes of Tide in the water truck tanks..(even though in those days it was mostly "filler"... but I think that was to make water wetter and soak in better?

I think that’s all anyone wanted, just say what the plan is moving forward! Three days after the fact was kinda weak.

“May of caused skin irritation” ...but... damaged some bikes. Lol that’s funny.

It’s almost 8pm in Florida, long time for a press release for something that happened Saturday.

Just make it right, pay the medical, pay the damages to the bikes, throw something the riders way, don’t let it ever happen again, and move on.

They can tech 2 bikes, they Just need to stay on same bike they qualify on.
Many teams and privateers did in fact tech 2 bikes this past weekend.

Throwing "nature" under the bus also!
This is the bare minimum that could've been done to express regret and limited liability without a direct acknowledgement of responsibilty by the giant promoter and its umbrella.

My read on this press release is that there has been an agreement between two contracting parties involved, "Feld Entertainment" and "Dirt Wurx", which will be further referenced in the press release (agreement), as "track crew", both represented by Feld counsel, and their expression of limited liability in acceptance of said contractor's responsibility of unintended negligence.

Next up, getting additional signed releases or an expression of such a thing and NDAs, by offering relative cheap settlements to participants affected by the "track crew" and God's negligence.

Lastly, Dirt Wurx gets the giant bill?

Not exactly, the people that handle this became aware of this Sunday(probably), met and investigated yesterday, and formed a plan and response today by mid day. That's as fast as you can expect, and it's pretty fast considering what is at stake.

One team that did this told me that they were allowed to tech an A and B bike. They just had to tell the AMA before practice which one they’d be using for the night.

The bike that they spend way more time riding is not substandard. Think about it, they ride the practice bike way more so dont you think they are just as well maintained and looked after. Yes, they may have the forks that have the more pitted tubes, and maybe the race wheels that get tire rub line and may not quite look as impressive as a race bike up close, but mechanically they are sound and strong. In the 250 class for sure, the motors are slightly less high strung so the motors will last a little longer than 2-3 hours safely. That's about all I can think of. Also, why send them to practice and become familiar on something that isn't as close to the race bike as it can be.

I assume the equipment used to build, maintain, and return the venue back is rented. I wonder how that conversation went at the equipment rental place!

Yes you are correct - people also add a drop or two of dishwashing liquid when they water houseplants - prevents “tunneling” and ensures all the potting soil is wet.

I didn't read everything in this thread , but from what I gather with their press release , at least it's a start. If they do in fact reach out to every rider and team , and they come to an agreement.....then that's the best we can ask for. Maybe every rider and team ends up having a different agreement on what's owed. And I hope feld pulls through , because if they don't.......social media can be a real bitch. Make it right Feld!

Probably similar to me returning my rental car in the early 90's

Most of damage was from the standing water getting on everything not really the mud/dirt itself. I’m sure the equipment was fine and if it was damaged was probably protected by insurance anyway.

I’ve heard they were aware of it Saturday night! Not so much that it was lime in the dirt, but riders complained about burning and rash symptoms Saturday night.

That press release was pretty generic, could of been written Sunday or Monday, getting it late Tuesday is kinda late in my opinion.

First part of what I said is fact! Second part is purely opinion.

Here's a corrosion rate curve for aluminum versus mild steel. The biggest issue wasn't the areas where the lime was mixed in the dirt as you said, but standing water where the lime hadn't been mixed well. It created puddles of concentrated caustic where the pH of the water was likely ~13-14, thus the caustic burns. High pH is better for steel (to an extent) but it's really bad for aluminum.
