It is absolutely a choice and it takes away from diseases like cancer that are not a choice. Nobody is ever accountable, it's always someone else's fault. And the weak can always find some so called expert willing to tell them it's not there fault.

Most addicts don't choose to be addicted. However, the ones that are still using whatever they are on haven't chosen to stop. Being addicted is not a choice, using and getting clean or not getting clean are choices.

why should ANYONE feel worse for NIco Izzi than any other kid that made crappy decisions. He is just a dirt bike rider. I love bikes, but its the reason we have thugs in the NFL, NBA, and every other major sport. You aren't that special because you have a skill at a sport. There are plenty of Great people who are faced with adversity every day of their lives and they choose to make the good decisions. We spend too much time talking about the ones who dont. I hate thieves and I hate druggies. There is always a sob story...Always...its sad and a fact of this world. So what. At this point he is an oxygen thief.

When or if a person matures and becomes enlightened enough to realise/understand that the only true commonality that humans share is our physical form (and even that has infinite variability). What one person finds easy another believes impossible. What one hates another loves. Ugly to someone is beautiful to another. If we (society) ever come to the point where we view incarceration as a means to protect the populace from the evil doers instead of punishment for their deeds...we might start to rehabilitate at least some of society's misfits. I'm no bleeding heart but I believe our current penal system is where we send bad folks to learn how to be better at being bad.

I'm rambling but my point is...if you're tough it doesn't mean everyone is...if you're smart it doesn't make others not dumb...if you kicked addictions ass it doesn't mean others can. If we were all the same there'd only be one political party, one church, one restaurant, one brand of dirt bike....ad nauseam.

Nico is a fuck up...there's no denying it. He needs to be separated from the rest of us...but hoping he gets thrown in jail so he gets his, "just rewards" isn't cool either. I don't want him to have NFL season pass and an x-box but also don't want him or anyone sent to prison to get a mop handle up the kiester.

First off, I feel bad for the people who got robbed, and whatever bad shit Nico did to them. Hope they're ok.

I've had a close friend do things a lot worse when he was caught in the grip of heroin addiction. I've also had that same friend get clean, start a family, work his butt off in construction and prosper. Addiction is insanity.

I feel bad for Nico's family, especially his daughter. It's absolutely up to Nico to realize he is the owner of this problem, and address it accordingly. When and if he decides to address his addiction is solely up to him. It's scary for a family to watch how far he is willing to let the addiction push him through trap door after trap door until he reaches his true rock bottom.

I'll pray for every addict out there struggling, and wish them well.
Amen brother! Here's an interesting take on addiction and yes, it involves more drugs, just to stir a caldron of shit backwards.

Podcast

It's based on Michael Pollan's take on addiction and delves into ways to change your mind. Interesting stuff!

its ALL a choice.. and when you make the wrong ones you never know what the end result will be. No 2nd chances are guaranteed...and no apologies should be given for reality

The fellow that owns the track had hired Nico to do a riding school over the weekend. I don't believe he knew what he was getting involved in by letting dude crash on his couch. Messed up deal for sure. Long story short, Jeromy's part in this was guilt by association.

I just looked at the Tyler podcast thread. A lot of the same guys talking shit then, now are all RIP. Bullshit.
Go ahead and talk shit, it's obviously not that hard to do. But don't be two faced.

Addiction is 100% a personal choice. Anyone who feels different are just as weak as that piece of shit. Life is supposed to suck. Work 7 12hr days a week just to stay alive and live broke. Pain is a big part of life for everyone. Embrace it don't try to mask it. Why is this so hard for dumb asses like him to grasp?

He stole his wrenches wife, and a year later steals her dog.

Exactly what I was thinking, wishing one guy the worst while telling stories about how great another guy was, when they are/were virtually the same person.

Yes of course. Many times. Spiral fractured femur, sheared off lateral condial, 3 ACLs, pins in both ankles, 3 collar bones, ribs, etc. Pain is a part of life for everyone. I chose to do the activity that got me injured. I chose to take pills to not feel pain. I also chose to stop taking pills and just live with the pain and harden the fuck up. These were all 100% my choice. Just like stealing a family dog was 100% that dirt bags choice. Life is always black and white. Some just chose to think its not because it's easier that way.

Ok could you have made it after your surgery without pain medication? I'll agree to disagree with you because I understand what you're saying. We did choose to continue to ride knowing our condition, but I won't live with fear that I may or may not get hurt again. I chose to stop just like you did and then shattered my ankle, I must be a pussy because I relapsed.
Hey partner I’ve broke my L1 and L2, Acl replaced, had pain meds and all sorts of shit.. all my family was worried I would become addicted.. I told them there’s no way in hell.. I took the meds only till I could manage pain.. yes I still hurt like hell and have meds in the cabinet that would easily make me feel calm and not walk like I need a walker.. but guess what I’ve got more to live for and I won’t let them destroy me.. I rode with Tyler Evans a lot back in the late 90 and early 2000.. when we all traveled to SX.. most don’t understand when the lights go out on your career some don’t adjust and they never find piece to fill that gap.. life is a choice sometimes it kicks you in the balls. Get up dust yourself off and move forward.. I still have demons and yes they sometimes make me very uneasy but I know tomorrow the light will shine and that’s all I need to calm down and know my wife and daughter need me just as much as I need them..

I don't think it's ill will. Just frustration that someone is on a similar path, and isn't making the steps needed to correct it.

Condoning his current display of character isn't going to do him any favors.

If anyone wants to send Izzi a letter, his new address will soon be P.O. Box 500 Grady, Arkansas. There are some new fans waiting to meet him. He can tell them what a badass he is. If you think this will be a picnic, look up the history of the Cummins Prison Farm.

Frank I don't usually go off on these things but you couldn't be more fukn wrong about it being 100% a choice. If you truly believe that then I feel sorry for your ass. some of what you said is true but to wish harm like that and make a black and white statement especially if you've not lived it then don't comment man.

Thanks for feeling sorry for me because I don't. Been an addict for 20 years and yep its 100% my choice if I decide to jam drugs into my body each day no matter how much life sucks. Who the fucks other choice would it be?
Why did you choose to be an addict?
