I believe the builds are very different with different objectives. BlackDiamond spends a lot more time massaging each part trying to make it better as if he were a building a works machine for a modern rider. He is looking to use the latest, best technology available, upgrading each and every part where possible. He is not building a historical piece with rare parts. I spend much of my time tracking down the rare parts wherever they may be all over the world. I also spend a lot of time looking at my own and other pictures from Japan of...

Richard; it will certainly get started and ridden down the street, but I think after she had been sitting collecting dust for a while, I will have to put on some old plastic and take her into the dirt to hit a few jumps. My opinion is Don’t restyle it. Classic bikes are awesome already, and even putting newer or restyled plastics on them usually dosnt make them look new it just makes it look like you put new plastics on an old bike and most times it looks like a shitty Chinese body kit. Very crammed together and the lines are all off. And we can see bike that look new all over they’re called new bikes...but seeing a classic bike that looks like it rolled off a starting line in the early 2000s is definitely a treat to look at. Here is a pic I took of the #9 MotoRoman bike being ridden by Takateru Atsuta in 2000 next to Sebastian Tortelli landing from a small muddy double jump at the back section of the Honda track in Okegawa. Akira Narita also rode a 250 for MotoRoman in 2000. You can see the #9 bike has the vents on the side panels something like that of the 1999 MXdN bikes. MotoRoman was sponsored by HRC. he had 2 builds I looked at.. a 1995 CR250 and a 2001 engine in a 2008 CRF250 frame. He listed the engine parts and all straight aftermarket, no HRC. The Cryo treated transmission was not an HRC transmission, it was oem gears cryo treated. You know, the very few people that do build complete HRC engines, never even start them and if you did, the probably wont run so well because you would have to have all the complete matched parts including the ignition that match the compression, porting, port timing, ignition timing, etc. so it runs well. The 2004 engine is a lot superior to the 2003 and older. The 2005 also has significant upgrades over 2004... similar engine but better suspension. You have to run the expensive plug, all other plug drop the electrode strap and ruin the engine

My '02 was great. No problems with it in over a year of solid riding. It has the adjustable powervalve, too, which is kind of fun. I researched it and ran the special plug. By the time I changed EIX because I was scared it would come apart, the special plug was no more expensive. And I DID have an EIX come apart in my '05 KX 125 (which is supposed to use the same plug for the same reason) so....
