Any team would hire Reed for the right price i'm sure. Problem will be what is that price? I'm guessing he doesn't want to ride for free but his recent results cant have him demand the price i'm sure he's thinking. If a team with a spot can meet him in the middle in regards to money then i'm sure he'll give them a decent return on investment.
As far as his results go, if he's riding right now and gets an off season without any injury's you'd be mad to think he wont top 5 next year at some point.

Somehow, Reed got them to pay for a good chunk of his team for a bit.
Unlike the majority of the rest, he actually brought in some money from outside the sport, or his mom and dad.
Awesome feat. To not realize this, is really stupid, imho.
This is where they are now.......http://www.discounttirefamily.com/nascar-cup-series-sponsorship/
Because as soon as he gets a bad result he shits all over the bike and blames the team. Then he wonders why it's been so hard to get on a factory team.
I respect how tough he is and the fact that he put his own team together, but I've never been able to stand the way he blames the bike and the team at the drop of a hat. Rarely or never hear Dungey or Villopoto blaming the motorcycle.
Even though his last seaon was poor he has to still be one of the best options for any team to pick up. I still beleive he can win on a bike he likes with a team that fully supports him.
But Reed has the longest autograph line at Supercross races. He has the loudest cheering sections. Even if he finishes 10th every week, he probably provides nearly as much exposure as anybody else on the track.
Does Feld ever considering finding ways to sponsor riders? Isn't it in Feld's best interest to make sure guys like Reed or Stewart are racing as long as they are willing to?
- Five years since Reed last won a race (January 2015)
- Four years since Reed got back-to-back podiums (January 2016)
- Three years since Reed last got a podium (January 2017)
- Nearly three years since reed last got a Top 5 (March 2017)
I'll GLADLY take that bet... I'll pay out $100 for every top 5 Reed gets and get paid $100 for every finish outside of the Top 5 (injuries or mechanical issues I'll even allow for a wash).
Pit Row
Why should someone sponsor Chad? Well, he can still pull a podium in a Supercross. On the right night, he might win. And he has a MASSIVE fan base, and his presence in the pits still pulls in the people. I know he has a lot of people who hate him, and I was not a fan at all 10 years ago, but since his 2011 comeback he's won me over. I honestly think the sport is better with him in it and racing, and if he wants to race then we are all better off.
A guy from Feld told me, and some others in the press box at the St. Louis SX several years ago that they could tell a definate difference in ticket sales when Stewart wasn't racing and when he was. The excitement pushed the ticket sales.
Same with Reed. Somebody will sign Chad for the benefits that come with it...and will put up with his sizable ego, his arrogance, his whiney-baby attitude & his age...because everybody's eyes are on him during a race if he's anywhere close to the front runners. They know that if the planets line up, and everything is in perfect place...Reed might even beat the youngsters one more time, and that's worth the price of admission.
I don't think teams are unaware of Chad's pulling power, but that pulling power comes at a cost.
1. Monetary - Chad isn't going to ride for little or no money (like the guys he's placing next to) and teams have obviously decided that having the longest autograph line in the pits is not worth the money he's asking.
2. Ego - I don't see Chad being a good #2 on any team. If I was a team manager I'd be worried about that.
So in SX, who is legendary?
And it's amazing how strong the "Bubba effect" is...to the point where MALCOLM (not Jason Anderson or [pre-incident] Musquin) was the only rider whose cheers rivaled Reed's or Tomac's. The fact that you can find a tee for Mookie, but not Peick, at the merchandise stand speaks volumes about the power of James' celebrity by being merely RELATED to him.
They'd pay the price and they're fine with top 10s and a big autograph line, but what good does it do you if he then starts blaming the bike? Then he's actually hurting your brand. And he has done that with every single bike he's ridden.
Post a reply to: Chad Reed in for 2019... BUT
