I bought SN 49 off the line. I knew I'd take a beating on depreciation if the battery technology changed but I wasn't expecting this! I was going to buy a second MX but instead of getting burnt twice I'll probably wait another year and get one at $8k. If they switch to a newer cell the price will probably jump back up again, however.

The reduction is price is appealing!

Though does it come withe the crappy 4CS forks that were on the 16 KTM's? If so plan on spending major $$$ to fix those forks!

Isn't that like the equivalent of having to throw a new motor in your bike after it threw a rod or something? Can't be cheap.

Might want to check the facts on that. Pretty sure it was the motor that had the 1000 hr maintenance on it, not sure about the battery.

Either way at this price this bike is super tempting as when I rode it I was thoroughly impressed for what it was. Only issue I had with it at the time was the cost in which was directly communicated to them.

So very true. And if I knew then what I do today, I'd probably still have bought the bike. But knowing what I do today, I won't be buying a second until the prices stabilize.

An mx bike drops 50% in one year and 50h. These bikes are gonna hold up way better. Engine is the critical and expensive part to maintain.

So if you get 6-7000 for a one year Alta after these new prices has been announced, it still a better deal than one with combustion engine

I wouldnt buy one unless battery packs are cheap. These and pretty much everything these days use a bunch of 18650 batteries which are rated to 300 cycles. That is a lot of times riding but a few years old bike could be halfway through its life and its not just a piston although probably easier to replace its a major piece of the bike like having to buy and swap a low end after 300 rides.

Their website is updated with the new pricing. But I will be waiting until they put on more updated suspension, a better set of bars, and footpegs and a brake pedal that don't look like they came out of the Lego movie.

Lots of places don't allow ANY Motorized vehicles, including electric, so as far as getting to be able to ride one in all these extra places legally, can't see that happening since even Electric assist Mountain bikes are banned as well. But not pedal power. Or 4 legged horsepower, even though they take massive dumps right on the trail and nobody ever scoops that up.

They have had the '17 marked down to $12k for 2 or 3 months now. I know of 2 dealers locally that have some on the floor. I'm betting they will drop close to $9k now with the new '18 pricing.

I offered her a new car too and it didn't work...
I could use some help with my negotiations here.

She wants me to sell a bike first. No way. 05 RM250 stays. 01 RM with a kx500 in it stays.

I'll wait for years until I'm satisfied of resale value, reliability, battery management issues? I'd like to know exactly what can be expected out of the batteries when they wear down over time, disposal fee's, replacement costs...etc.

The only sure way to find these things out is to wait 5 years or better and see how the bikes out in the real world are working. And what they can be bought used for.

The only thing I can compare it too are golf carts.........carts with new batteries are worth retail......carts with dead batteries are worth almost nothing used.

I get what you are saying.

If priced right, a leasing program should go a long way towards alleviating people's concerns about the battery tech. As far as motor and chassis are concerned, I'm not too nervous about reliability as the electric motor has been around for a very long time and is quite proven technology.
