The meaningless last round of the GP's (much like the last round for American Moto this year), when the championships are handled and most U.S. guys don't show, has nothing to do what MXON could be. I guess American's don't care about anything other than Supercross, right? Oh wait.......

One reason: Ricky Carmichael' good bye to the sport, combined with very strong line up: RC, RV, Ferry. Besides Budds Creek I can't remember a big crowed at an MXON at the USA, the last 20 years.
Really? I've been to all 3 MXdN in the US and it's been standing room only at all 3.

If Awood would've said he skipped racing to watch P*rn with his girl and bang her afterwards, OK! Then I would be in doubt. But you can't be a crybaby about the cancellation, when you weren't into it when the MXGP in Glen Helen was there with the same riders, battling the same track. When you felt like the MXGP series wasn't good enough to watch it live at the scene. The reasons from: 'The championships were rapt up' and shit like that are all OK. Very nice.

But last year Romain Febvre got the championship also in his pocked but he gave one of a fight to Cooper Webb and Josh Grant. This season we saw Jeffrey Herlings battling Jeremy Martin and Eli Tomac who destroyed the field, coming back from a bad start the second heat.
@philG
I dont believe im part of the problem when the only $$ being spent that day would have been gas money to get there. Nothing would change if i went or not. The reason the race was canned was because they based their projected MXON attendance and earnings off of the lackluster USGP race that nobody was interested in the first place. Thats not my fault. Like i said if it was in the middle of the season i would have been 100x more interersted. And MX in the US isnt done, just races with nothing on the line arent going to get great attendance. And hell yeah, take my man card, the A/C and few episodes of TV were way more intriguing than being there. You guys can all bitch all you want but ive never seen someone judged so hard for giving a reason why they and many others didnt go to a race.

@Mattii
How do you know i didnt? Wink Being excited about the MXDN and the USGP (either charlotte or GH) are so not even related you just cant compare. Same riders? You mean half the field?!? It wasnt good enough to go watch live; the terrible ticket sales, no championship battles, half a field, none of the MXON atmosphere? Pretty smart idea to stay home. Maybe im spoiled being so close to a lot of races? fine. If i wasnt a fan
i wouldnt pay to go to nationals and SX and travel to hangtown and other races, idk. But seeing how much you guys flip your shit on this is ridiculous. Seems the only competent people on this forum are ML GuyB and DV. Laughing

Did you see the support from Americans fans over the weekend? Americans don't care about a European championship coming to their country because they have their own 17 and 12 race series' to worry about. MXoN is a big deal as it's a chance to do something for your country.
It's a World Series, not a European championship.

It's self inflicted. You can't expect them to hold an event at a venue which the average fan has shown he can't be bothered to turn up at despite being given numerous chances.

You aren't entitled to an MXDN just because X number of years has passed since you had the last one either, you aren't entitled to a damn thing.

Luongo would hold the MXoN (which should still be the MXdN...) in a livestock barn on an AX track with one table, 3 turns and a whoop section if the owner paid him the most $$$.

How many people complaining live within 3-5 hours of Glen Helen and didn't go to the GP? Grinning
That's because their GP with half the normal field doesnt have the same appeal as say the MXDN. I dont think that should be very hard to understand for people. If the GP had that much appeal then why didnt all the american based teams have their riders do it, and not just the ones monster made, and the few riders that did select to do it. I just dont think basing the attendance of the GP at glen helen is a good reason to take away a MXDN at Glen Helen, because believe me the crowd would be huge. A lot more interest in a MXDN in America then a gp in America.

He would hold a MXGP there (not MXoN) if it was in a country "foreign" to the series. Call Luongo what you want (id call him a moneywhore.) but he does have a vision for the MXGP series and exposure which isnt bad from a business/globalization standpoint.

My view on the lesser GPs; Mexico/Thailand/Quatar give the series new international tracks and exposure in foreign markets. Assen is legendary for its other venues and has superb facilities and organization to make it work. USGPs would greatly help alleviate the series if there was enough interest. I guess he adds them after the Nationals calendar so that theres a good possibility of those riders chiming in, too bad it hasn't worked out that way.

With all things Luongo this is because of money, the GP attendance is just a scapegoat.

Hold an MXdN at any US national track and it will be packed. Guaranteed.

Heck I've never been to any US national on the west coast, but myself and about 10 other buddies were planning to go to the Glen Helen MXdN since it was first announced. My point is an MXdN event has more pull than even a US National. Book one here and it will be packed. An MXGP race no one cares about is a horrible data point.

Matti pretty much sums it up for me .

jeezus .... free tickets and 40 mins away , I would have gone to watch Herlings and Tomac run two practice sessions on the track by themselves . I cant really blame Glen Helen for pulling the plug when I see posts like this . California = poser fans .

oh vital. Stay classy. That post was posted elsewhere with 100% positive response and here it's 100% negative with being called an idiot, a poser fan, and seems a few who can't read.

My life is based around motocross and the industry and I'm not a poser fan by any means. It was pushing 95, had half a gate in MX and 2 championships were wrapped up, there wasnt really any reason to go. I spent money and drove 30 min on Friday and raced go carts block passing the likes of Seewer, Tiga, anstie for fun but that had more appeal than the racing and the terrible turnout it was going to be. No friends, not as much competition, and terrible atmospher. Let's just say I would PAY to go to the MXON no matter what the temperature, as I have for the Nationals every year, but this race had less appeal as shown by the attendance. Mid season GP with full attendance? Id be there no doubt. But maybe I'm just a spoiled American Tongue

But call me an idiot or not a true fan I'm telling you the reason I didn't go and why it didn't appeal to many Californians and didn't pull from states away like the national or supercrosses even.
I guess I am another California poser fan. Laughing Some folks just cant or dont want to understand that Californians have 6 opportunities a year to see professional MX/SX in this state alone... more if you are willing to travel to a neighboring state.

While the GP's are good racing with talented riders, its certainly no better than our national series. When there is nothing on the line, few if any or our guys that we are big fans of racing it, and so many other sports competing for our money..... its easy to understand with a little rational thought why so few show up or show interest in the GP race.

I skipped this years Hangtown event to ride with 500 folks in the dirt from the central valley to the coast and back over two days. I knew there would be plenty of other opportunities this year in my state to see my favorite guys race. No biggie.....

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand that the MXoN is different, and limited opportunity. I was planning on driving the 10 hrs south for a weekend to attend the MXoN next year. Bummed that it wont happen now. But to equate GP attendance with MXoN attendance is a little silly.

Would it be or ever be as well attended as an event in Europe? Probably not. But you have so many more country's fan pools so much closer for travel there. No one country "deserves" a race, but if Youthstream wants to keep interest in the event..... you might want to throw one of the single biggest MX markets a bone occasionally.

Yeah, canceling wasn't because of GL. He gets paid whether a big crowd shows up or not. GH didn't want to lose their shirt and who can blame them.

I think what would help is have the final two rounds of the MXGP and the final two rounds of the AMA outdoor be the same race. It would be like the Trans-AMA all over again, ALL the top riders from both series will be there and attendance will be up.

While I still believe the MXoN is such a different animal from the MXGP in regards to getting the fans there, I understand from a business perspective that Glen Helen was not willing to risk it. I do not know their books, but if this unknown was enough to cancel the MXoN, I believe their books are tighter than they would like and the risk to keeping the place open is there should not enough fans show up.

Beyond frustrated with this news. My whole family was planning on flying in from Wisconsin to finally attend the event. It wouldn't sting so bad had they not already made the fucking announcement. What's the point of continuing to make promises just to back out? Get your shit together.

So they don't think they'll make more than $1.5 million that weekend? Last I read the AMA national crowd was over 35,000. 35,000 people at $75 ticket is $2.625 million. I guarantee the MXoN event would draw a bigger crowd than the national. People would fly in to see the prestigious event. You can't judge the attendance by and end of the season GP race where the titles were already wrapped up.

Absolute and utter bull shit.

Well, as a shame it is, I can't blame them. In 2012 at Lommel the profit of only the first 10,000 sold tickets were promised to the organisation, maybe it was even less, can't remember correctly. Everything else (tickets, merchandising, food, drinks, sponsoring etc.) went mostly right into Luongo's pocket.

You have to be crazy nowadays to organise such an event under said circumstances, and preferably get some support from the government or you're done for.
Word was that the MXDN at Budds Creek was a non-profit event for the track owner and there were a lot of spectators. I suppose Luongo made out like a bandit though. Can't blame Feldkamp for pulling it.

This really pisses me off! How many times are we going to let Loufatso screw us over? First the Indian reservation debacle, then the MXDN in the US every other year to the first GH MXDN that didn't happen and now this...What a joke!
I love the GP's and MXDN, I went to Charlotte this year and was impressed although there are many areas to improve.
I say let him have his MXGP and his MXDN and I do hope we don't participate next year (and that's hard for me to say).
For you that say it doesn't matter if the US is there or not...well lets see how the crowds are if we aren't there before you make that judgment....When all the best riders in the world aren't there it does take a lot away from the appeal...My emotions tell me to never give that fat bastard another penny...time will tell.
The good news is that MXDouche won't be able to troll US fans, riders and media if we stop going...

Maybe all the US riders will get "hurt or sick" before the SXMX deal...

Yep...

And handing out "special special VIP" passes and other bullshit.

YS and Luongo are scum. The GP guys should have boycotted him years ago. They're fucked now.

Hopefully the American guys know their moto history when SX asks for 5 more races.

Why do they keep running the GP in Qatar? Looks like a couple dozen fans attend that event annually.........

This precisely parallels boxing and its downfall.

The rise of MMA was due to the fact that the best always fought the best. With MX, we now see other interests and dollars (Luongo, Monster, etc) determining when the best face the best, taking precedent over the best wanting to race the best, simply to prove themselves.

I get it from the riders' perspective - why race for free and risk your paycheck....? But on the promoters' side - give something back for Christ's sake. the sport giveth and the sport taketh away...Let's hope some other sanctioning body comes along to taketh away from the money-grubbing, piece of shit Luongo.

So now, as with boxing, the fans are left with the decision to make and that is to shy away from the sport they love to attempt to force the hand of the promoters to make the best deal and be the best proverbial matchmaker they can be. For Luongo, this means pay the riders that come to do battle. Period.

This is a great idea! Make it count. Use transponders. This would work for the USGP's.

2002 MXDN at Comp Park has nothing to do with GL, was while Dorna ran the GPs.
GL bought the rights then sold them to Dorna (Moto GP promoter), Dorna fluffed it with the single moto format
GL then bought the rights back for pennies on the dollar at the end of 2003 I believe.

c'mon America where is your fighting patriotic spirit gone???

What I have learned from this thread:
1. Glen Helen. Cancelled.
2. It's all Awoods' fault.
3. A couple of girls wore some mighty skimpy clothes in Colorado.

Holy shit.

You guys leap to conclusions that USA won't race it if it isn't here next year.

Also, if not Glenn Helen; does anyone have any insight to where it really may be?

The last 2 MXdN have been absolutely amazing. The tracks were awesome. The racing was the best of year at both. The France and Italy country side are wonderful places to visit. The promoters totally killed it at both events. There is a certain reverence to the history of the sport needed to hold a MXdN. Part of what make the event great is that is NOT in the USA.
The Glen Helen track and surrounding area is not a nice place to visit. Hell even industry people like JT$ won't attend our own US National at that track and he lives in California. Why would anyone want to spend money going there? Keep the event off US soil. Nothing exotic about visiting Utica, Buchanon, Millville, etc.

This is a wise decision and in the best interest of the sport of motocross and the MXdN event.

I am proud as hell of our riders the last 2 years. I would rather see people who WANT to race over people who are talented and do it because it is expected any day.

'When all of the best riders aren't there it does take a lot away from the appeal'

We aren't seeing that though. Team USA used to be the absolute superstars that rode differently to everyone else, that rode with an ability and style we never usually got to see. The teams that have been sent the last couple of years don't stand out, yes they are still extremely comptitive, but they don't draw people to the event in the way that they did when it was Carmichael/Stewart etc.

This years MXdN was one of the best I can remember, and the world champion wasn't there, the US outdoor champ wasn't there, the US SX champ wasn't there, none of it mattered. When the event can still be as good as it was without those big names being there, do you really think it's going to crush the event to not have Webb, Anderson and Alex Martin there? What I saw when I was there was thousands of fans from all over the world, all cheering for the riders from their country, not giving a shit about the European riders vs the American riders. Those days are gone, 5 years without a win and all of a sudden they aren't quite as important as you think. If they come and race, great, if they don't, great, I won't miss them

Also, if not Glenn Helen; does anyone have any insight to where it really may be?
It's going to be at Matterley Basin

I was going to GH next year for the MXDN. I'm extremely disappointed by this. I'll be going to the Vet MXDN next year instead now.

I had little interest in going to the USGP but had already told my wife that I'd be going to the MXoN. At least she'll be happy, we won't have to pay for the tickets, hotel to stay at, food, etc. As a bonus, I'll end up working that day instead.

It would surprise me none if the US didn't field a team for a few years. If that occurs, I won't be up at 4 AM to watch the French battle the Germans like I did this last weekend.
