Im gonna shine it up real nice this weekend then Monday morning park it in the showroom of my dads shop. Someone somewhere has a pocket full of tax return $. I have plans to buy a new YZ250 next year.
I still have a 2002 YZ250 which I didn't ride in 10 years, just in case I want to start riding again.
It's in very good condition and good to go.
Raced it last back in 2012. I fire her up every 3 months or so, then drain fuel & carb. She fires up first kick every time.
Won a few big races on her back in 78, just can't bring myself to sell her. I originally sold her in 1979 to my best friend Ian who rode her for a year then emigrated to Australia. Bike sat in his garage for 30 years before I persuaded him to sell her back to me. Full restoration, engine re-build, new Ohlins etc.
I got it when i was like 5 years old so it must be about 20 years old now. Doubt if i still works lol.
My brother used it briefly as his 1st bike to learn to ride on before quickly switching to the much faster KTM's 50's..

It is odd for me to read your responses and see "2002 xyz sitting for 12 years....." 2002 was yesterday. Something from 2002 can't be 12 years old....except that 2002 was 14 years ago. Already.

Bought a low hour tricked out 12 to replace it, and the 07 just keeps getting pushed to the side for "other projects" like pit bikes or my kids bikes.
Due to- full time job & emt school. No time for anything else currently.
Now if I had a good RM 250/500 it might be a different story.. Mega Roost .
I also still have my first bike whitch was a C100 Honda Super Cub.
My son and I may attend the Atlanta Supercross next weekend and I'll see if that restokes the fire..
I'm too scared to do the big jumps at my local track...and it is a hassle to put a flag on my bike to go riding out at Juniper dunes. Damn thing snaps off every time i go riding.
If i find the time to clean it up, Ill probably sell my bike this year.
I however wouldnt mind going the adventure bike route or do some restoration projects on an older bike.
My last race was a team harescramble race that was supposed to be for fun. Problem for me is I'm only having fun if I'm going fast and winning. That specific day there was a very fast team, but it was our home track and I thought we could win, regardless if my partner didn't. With the last two legs left we was winning our class and second overall to the money bike fast team. Only being a minute and half back I decided to ride the last to legs myself. I was faster, in better shape and had beat the leaders before, so the push was on. As I came through the barrels two laps later I had him in sight and one of the big down hills I was making my time up was the next section. As I came by the pits my teammate and friends were going bonkers, because the win they didn't feel was possible before the race was within our grasp. When I crested the downhill I could see that standing up charging down a rocky hill wasn't the leaders specialty, but it was mine and the majority of my time was made up in these types of sections. I had pulled to within a couple bike lengths 3/4 way down the slope, and that's when the crash occured that officially put a stop to my racing. When I came to a gentleman was picking up my bike a good 30 yards down the hill. When he made his way to me to ask if I was ok I couldn't talk for the life of me and just gave him a head nod yes. The lap I rode after that was the hardest time I've ever had on a bike. My balance that's always great was gone and I felt like I was hammered drunk trying to make my way back to the pits safely.
So that was it for me, and I find it hard pill to swallow but another hit to the head isn't worth it. My firends always tell me just go race for fun, and I tell them that's not possible because going fast and racing for the win is the fun of it. My favorite form of riding these days is cliff jumping. Nothing better than jumping up and down cliffs most people wouldn't dream of even attempting to climb.

My main wheels are the '05 Eric Gore 295, the '06 YZ 450, and the Honda trike. The V-Max hasn't been licensed in 3 years, and The C&J '74 360 is my occasional vintage ride. I love'm all and will keep my finger in the pot until I simply can't do it anymore. My son will have to figure out what to do with them when I'm gone, as I'll won't be able to pull the trigger on any of my "babies".. Life has been a good ride...literally...!
