The facility will handle the event. It will be a better event than most European ones and will set the standard for other away MXGP's. Johannesburg is a shithole and is not very safe. There are no go places and the teams attending will be well briefed on this. The locals attending also know this so all good. With that said, Tera Topia, the track and the hotels nearby is pretty secure. I'm taking a guess but I think all the teams will be staying at the lodges around Lanseria. I don’t see anyone coming close to this for a long time. Lucas is leaving and would be your only chance. You have to be massively talented, win early and often, have winning longevity, and whether we like it or not, the AMA is poaching a lot of your main competitors. The mega winners Everts and Herlings ticked every box, and AC nearly did, but you could argue he didn’t win that early and often until he was 19. With Lucas leaving and Gajser not gelling with the Yamaha, his win total could get completely untouchable.

If ended 2nd in Switzerland moto 1, 8th in Germany moto 1 and 2nd again in Latvia moto 2, and if Lucas ended top 3 in Switzerland moto 1, then Lucas would have 526 and Jeffrey 506 (which is Lucas actual scores), so a 20 point gap difference.

You can say many things about Herlings, but he is not a dirty rider at all

Also kinda funny how MXGP and outdoors are kinda comparable right now with Lucas and Herlings being similar to Jett and Hunter while you have Febvre who tries his absolute hardest to keep up with the two just like Deegan but is still better than the rest of the field.

Woulda coulda shoulda, we would never know. Same with Kenny. That what makes guys like Everts, RC and Cairoli so special. Also.. I believe he wouldn't be out there still if he never got injured. Some years off extended his career and kept him motivated I'm 100% sure.

This track should host the MXON. Unfortunately the cost of the event probably means it'll never happen.

Incredible last lap for Lucas! Mxgp time practice coverage is so good, always catch fast lap

Just raced the amateur classic there this past weekend. That track is so gnarly, like chocolate cake on steroids in the morning. Then at the end of the day it’s like a warzone. Not one inch didn’t have a rut or a bump. Kickers on the massive jumps too. I made a last lap pass in gravity cavity, shit like that is what I do it all for man what a feeling!

I raced that race in n the 500 class. My son was a baby and I bought him this shirt. My daughter and grandkids have all worn it. I still have it.

With the Lawrence’s opting out of MXoN this year, I think it would be a great year for Minear to get some experience at this event with a “low pressure” environment because he seems like he could be a great addition to the team in the near future. Star 250 is always a plus at that event as well.

You know I’ve watched the entire MXGP season so far on TV and I can say this - having far fewer riders on the gate makes absolutely zero difference to the spectacle. In fact when you watch US Nationals and MXGP back-to-back on the same weekend one thing becomes very obvious - the leaders in MXGP aren’t battling groups of 2-3 lappers in the back half of the race. At High Point, 450 moto 2 there 22 lappers still circulating on the last lap, and six of those had been lapped twice. Contrast that to the GP of Italy, 450...

I tore a ligament in my wallet several years back at Pala and was never the same, so I retired from attending since. Not saying I'd never attend a National or SX again, but I'd probably have to have a few mixed drinks, beer or coffee in me first. I'm guessing the vital MXGP podcast will contain a scathing review of the track. Personally I loved it. I wouldn't want to see more than 1 or 2 of these on the schedule but it definitely expands the track variety. Something sadly missing in the US.
