Yeah, especially because all of the others haven't even started to screw up yet. Many more to go.

I think he’s still got a shot. If we look back at the other riders history they all have a weirdo race Tomac is good for one where he rides around in 7/8th, Chase will do what Chase does. The only real unknown is Hunter he could stay top 5 all season we don’t know but odds are he will have one too.

These photos could tell two completely different stories by the end of this championship. Nice work!

Always thought his confidence is what helped him, but in the post race he said "that may have been the final nail in the coffin." So many more races to go, can't believe he is already thinking that way.

Can’t believe the war dog hasn’t come to this thread to poop all over it yet.

I wonder if he's purposefully creating this air that the season is "over" for him, so that 1) everyone else officially counts him out and he feels "overlooked" and 2) it takes some pressure off of him in a weird way, like he has nothing to lose. We know Coop is insanely mental, so I have a hard time believing he truly feels like his season is totally done, even as upset as he was last night.

I haven't finished it yet, but his new gypsy tales podcast is pretty good. I'll never count this guy out.

1. He’s still got that dog in him, 3 titles haven’t satisfied him.

2. The speed came around this week

Without Jett it's going to be such a bloodbath. There are very few 4x champs and Webb knows this might be his last chance to earn that legend. We haven't even left California yet; Webb's best work is yet to come.

Yeah and as good as Tomac looked the first few races.. with Hunter and Chase getting faster each round and even Webb turning it up now (could have been a podium without the mistake, who knows) this could actually be a 3-4 rider battle by the end considering nobody of them gets injured. The 450 class is fucking great to watch currently.

Agree, he only lost what, 3 points last night? He's in a deep hole but hard to say last night was the end.

Maybe he felt like he had the speed to win last night and so still only getting 5th and losing more ground is making him feel like he blew it.

Feel free to call me a fool in a few months if I’m wrong, but I don’t think anyone can overcome a 24 point deficit after just 3 rounds to bring home a championship in this field.  He didn’t lose those points because of a crash or injury.  Whether it is age or the bike, he just doesn’t have the pace of the leaders this year.  I know Webb performs better in the East, but Chase and Eli are both on new bikes and teams and will almost certainly get better as the season continues and they learn more.

I'm a big fan of Coop but not racing out doors and starting sx prep 6 weeks before the season might catch up to him finally. Still think he will compete for wins but seems Chase, Eli, Hunter has the leg up on these guys.

That's nothing more than the look of someone who wants nothing more but to go back to the rig and decompress, but Feld tells you that you need to "wait here for an interview with Will"...

Every year a few top riders get hurt.

He still has a chance - still 14 races to go right?

You ever played golf?  I relate the series a lot to 18 holes.  In golf, you usually have a good front nine or back nine, and don't play all the way through without blowing up on some holes.  Webb is having a bad front nine, while the others are getting off to a good start.  But don't call the game after 3 holes, there's a lot of golf left.

Looks like he came in prepared this year to defend and last night was rough for him but it seems the fuse just got lit. Bring on next week.

Saving this photo for the potential foreshadowing. Also gigging at the thought of ML going full paparazzi circling Webb for these pics! Grinning

I thought his speed in the main was really good.  He caught up to Eli and was pressuring him.  I thought he was going to pass him at one point.  Then he made the mistake and fell.  It happens.  I expect him to be right there if he can get better starts.

Kenny has been close to the front and look where he finished. If there were two guys running away each week, Id say maybe in trouble as its hard to make up points, but with so many guys riding so well you can have bigger point swings on any given night and bigger hopes over a long series. He had Tomac playing defense and that guy was flawless first two rounds.... I think he will be ok and in that hunt soon.

As much as I hate this series being a brutal meatgrinder 17 races long, the fact that is is so long means Webb can turn this around. I dont think hes going to win but its possible.

He’ll win races, but the championship is out of reach this year unless a whole lot of guys have a whole lot of problems.  He would need to go on quite a run here to claw back 24 points from guys who have been faster and more consistent this year.  Like I said, I might look like a fool in a few months, but I bet I won’t.

All it would take is Webb to start getting on the podium regularly and get a few wins while Tomac has a bad race or two, and he will be right there.

Webb looks cranky, sure, but he also looks absolutely smoked. You guys see Deegan right when he pulled off? He looked like he just finished eating a slice of toast.

At one point in the race he was right on Tomac/Hunter/Andersen. He’s just got to start better and not crash on his own.
I bet the solo crash is what frustrates him the most; he was charging up to that point.
