Interesting observing the discussion in this thread, it paints a clear picture of the America we live in today...I think we have a lot of misplaced anger, but we all have every right to be angry as our government has been failing us for decades. The graph below should be telling...Ironically, all these illegal immigrants still manage to pay about $90-100billion dollars into our tax system every year, and they don't even get access to any of the same benefits we do. We need to ask ourselves who is taking the American dream away from Americans? Hint...It isn't immigrants. Once we remove the red blue division that has been well curated to distract us, we the people need to recognize that our country is being gutted and transformed into something I'm not sure many of us actually want. Our government has failed us, and rather than own it and be accountable ourselves, we are now looking to place blame everywhere else (China, rest of the world and unfair tariffs, illegal immigrants, etc. - even though we're removing legal ones too).

No one wants to live next to dangerous criminals, domestic or from abroad. No one wants our businesses destroyed (interesting note - immigrants are a lot more likely to start a business here than domestic born). As AI continues to take over the world, it will make it increasingly challenging to differentiate what is real and what isn't. We are headed to a dangerous place. Trump is the predecessor to some larger transitions we will all be experiencing soon enough, and I think our way of life as we know it today will see some significant change in a pretty short timeframe.

For a guy that is hell bent on removing all these dangerous illegal criminals, I find it a little odd he invites back dangerous cartel ones with management experience...But they have a lot of $$$, maybe they will invest it in the US economy! Even more so, the guy that wants a secure Southern Border did a remarkable job of crashing a bi-partisan bill (See Unity/United States) a few months back that was attempting to address and reform this very issue...But it came at a time politically inconvenient to Trump and his narrative as it would have given that win to Biden and made the followers furious as they can in no way work together with do nothing democrats. (I think both sides have failed us).

We should all be the example we want to see. Lets see if we can turn the Divided States of America back into the United States of America. The excessive use of police force will not end with illegal immigrants or dangerous and violent protestors.

And this is coming from a pasty white dude that was born and raised in this country. I have a sibling currently running for US Senate. I wish politics functioned well enough I didn't have to pay this much attention...

Graph below shows our issue...As America has been incredibly prosperous for decades, the rich have gotten richer (way, way richer), and the poor have gotten poorer. We are about to witness the nail in the coffin for middle class in this country if we don't do something significant to change course.

On the subject of hired laborers doing lesser quality work.  I'm not making any judgements but based on my personal experience, and a job I'm looking at today. If something is done wrong or the quality is complete shit (the issue I'm dealing with today, hardscape, plaster and unfinished work issues)  The fault isn't with the hands on guys doing the work as much as the contractor who doesn't have the time to oversee their job. From being too busy or spread too thin, being greedy and taking on more than they can handle, whatever the reason. The guys in the hole getting sore backs and bloody knuckles aren't to blame (IMO) it's the supervisors who turn them loose with no supervision and don't give a shits fault. They don't care, ...until they're trying to collect their final payment. And even then if they can find problems to sweep under the rug then get out the broom and hide that shit so we can get down the road.  The guys doing the manual labor can do fantastic work if someone who knows how takes the time and teaches them, and even Gasp ! goes to the job once in awhile and actually check their work.  The blame for shit work goes uphill. This is of course just my opinion

Just exactly like the scenario I talked about earlier.

The new subcontractor dropped off a bunch of non english speaking workers, and left them with a, less than skilled, lead man.

They were laying brick without tying it into the house with ties.

They didn't know what they didn't know.

It was indeed, up to someone in a supervisor role to get the project done properly.

Not just some semi bilingual dude that doesn't do much more than nod when you try to talk to them.

Lesser quality work ALWAYS cost more in the long run.

Either in rework, holding up other contractors, etc...

Hahahahahahaha that's going to be some machine 😄😄😄  Have you ever dug a ditch or done any plumbing ? Electrical ? Framing ? Concrete work ? Tile ?  How about the PR involved with selling and getting the money ? I don't think I'll start stressing about losing my day job just yet lol

Have you ever dug a ditch?More than I could possibly count. Ditches for plumbing, ditches for irrigation, ditches to get dirt for building tracks, hell...

Have you ever dug a ditch?
More than I could possibly count. Ditches for plumbing, ditches for irrigation, ditches to get dirt for building tracks, hell, my dad used to make me go dig a ditch anytime I said I was bored growing up.

Done any plumbing?
Yup, but less so as a new home owner. If shit goes wrong I want to be able to point to someone with a certificate should insurance ask who fucked it up.

Electrical?
Yup, but it's far and away my least favorite thing to do. Got shocked once 20 something years ago and fuuuuuck that. Also, same deal as plumbing, if there is a fuck up and the house burns down, I don't need insurance pointing the finger at me.

Framing?
Yup, it was a summer job when I was in high school. Framing and building fences was how I was able to buy my first brand new dirt bike.

Concrete work? Tile?
Doing both of those right now!

How about the PR involved with selling and getting the money?
For building houses, no, but I started my career in marketing and I do a shit ton of PR, pitching, and fundraising in my current job so I am very experienced with the process.

I don't think I'll start stressing about losing my day job just yet lol.
Oh, dude, I'm not saying this stuff is happening tomorrow... but it's coming.

+++++

EDIT: Interestingly enough, when I suggested you reach out to your "illegal" friends a few months ago when all this stuff started brewing you had a very similar dismissive response... and now look where we're at. Not saying that as any sort of "gotcha" or finger pointing, but, its wildly similar in terms of thinking short term vs long term.

Are you in the movie business ? Did I read that once or no ?  AI in the movies and AI fixing Mrs. Johnsons toilet are light years apart. What are you thinking, like 100 years from now a drone is going to fly to someones house and fix a leak ? That's going to be cheaper somehow ?  I'm not seeing it. I appreciate your vision though. If you're not in the movie business maybe you should be, this shit is wild 😄

Homes in the 70's 80's - Built by stoner surfers working for old burnt out craftsmen

How many people does it take to build a house?
Now, how many people does it takes to fix a toilet?

Take a wild guess what pot of gold Ai is going to chase down first.

Trump now says “Well maybe the ‘good ones’ can stay”. In typical Trump fashion, he breaks something, ruins thousands of lives in the process, gets called up by industry leaders that go “Hey, WTF are you doing? You’re fucking the bag up. You’re going to tank the economy.” and then he slowly rolls back the shit he hastily implemented. Meanwhile all the sycophants who were cheering “I voted for this!” as they watched families being torn apart adopt the new position as “of course the good ones can stay, it’s common sense!”

So for the folks there were just in here saying anyone who is here illegally must be deported, what is your reaction to this news?

How about we allow law enforcement to shoot them with tranquilizers?   Seriously, trouble maker goes to sleep, all of the other ones go running.  Then he wakes up in jail.

His Liberal White guilt perspective is so predictable for a California guy.

Don't know why you got a downvote for that, it is factually correct. A Real ID would be more valuable in terms of citizenship as long as every option you're allowed to use for documents were also valid for citizenship, but the last item is "document reflecting TPS benefit eligibility", which is why is falls back to a secondary evidence. Sounds like even a printed letter would qualify, not actually having temporary protected status, but just a letter saying "yeah you're probably eligible".

If you are stopped by ICE and don't have proof of citizenship on your person, you may be detained and deported, without the opportunity to present your proof of citizenship if it is not on your person or for legal representation or a day in court, even if you are a natural born citizen.

This is open to abuse, if the government or an ICE officer doesn't like you, they just deport you.

Yeah that sounds awful. Like we both just agreed on, the Real ID is not considered proof of citizenship, or rather, not considered a primary proof of citizenship. What that means is, pretty much nobody in the US is walking around with a primary proof of citizenship. Being detained while they investigate isn't the end of the world, but they need reasonable suspicion to detain you, which being brown and/or not having primary proof of citizenship on your person absolutely does not have any value as being reasonably suspicious.

It definitely is the contractors fault for hiring non skilled workers for less money to do skilled labor jobs. It’s actually stupid. Any contractor worth a damn would know that’s not gonna work and in the long run it’s going to bite them or him in the ass. SMH

I'll post the pictures of what I found today in the tradesman thread. I don't want sidetrack this thread.  Funny or not so funny thing is Newsom is on live tv right now praising all the illegal workers, making it sound like there's no one else available to do those jobs...... fuck me have fun trying to be legit and competitive in this state. Who built your home ? Who picked your fruit ? aaaaahhhh I gotta go radio silent for the night. No tv, no internet. I'm gonna vaporlock listening to this shit. See ya manana fellers I'm seriously going to go watch On Any Sunday or Jaws or something and try to pass out early. This craps making my head reel

I think AI will eventually compliment everything, every trade, every service, every aspect of our lives.

Plumbing? I’m sure it’ll handle sizing, design or troubleshooting tankless units etc.. Installing? Repairing? I’m certainly not worried.

If slavery is outlawed, who will pick the cotton?

Did the majority of slaves leave the country or did they continue in their jobs, only in a different wage system?

And I used to live in San Diego

I grew up in New Jersey, about ten minutes from where Trump spends most of his time in Bedminster. In a house that was over 230yrs old when we moved out, that house was awesome looking back now.

I was working on my friend's dad's farm from early double digit age stacking bails up in the hotass old barn. I got a job at the grocery store on my 14th birthday. I graduated high school in 3yrs, and spent what would be my senior year working landscaping 60+ hrs a week mostly to cover my moto obsession since my parents had nothing to do with dirt bikes. In college, I worked about 30-35hrs a week at a bike shop in Muncy PA to pay for rent and food.

Right now I'm designing a microprocessor controlled knee for amputees.

I don't know where to even start with your perspective on this matter......it is bent for sure.

I might suggest starting wherever you feel most comfortable, Cool Luke.

This post was very self absorbed and self serving.
