I know a lot of manufacturers have come and gone in the last 50 years - any this big? Seems almost incomprehensible. Damn they own the amateur mini bike scene - what would that look like if they went away - Cobra would be king for sure in the 50s. Kawi and Yammy show above that 🤔

Similar to the evolution of sport bikes and, as Joey pointed out, many parallels to mountain bikes. Also consider the evolution of muscle cars and Jeeps/utility vehicles. Jeeps were designed to be cheap utility vehicles to bash off road. Now they are high end, overpriced monstrosities that are too expensive to risk damaging off road. Muscle cars started as cheap, quick, fun cars aimed at the 16-24 crowd. Now they are so overblown and overpriced that you only see gray hair in them. I know I’ve been in a lot of dealers with only a couple of MX bikes but packed full of quads and SxS’s.. that tells me they aren’t too worried about the local mx market. Plus I heard the margins on MX bikes suck.

I’d be willing to bet that unless you hold a national or operate on family dirt - you can’t make an MX track pencil out in most states. Aside from ins try keeping heavy equipment operational these days. Unfortunately I see a world where the professional athletes are trained exclusively at private facilities and public tracks slowly fade.

This is why i think the future of all racing divisions are wide open, regardless of what the KTM spokespersons tell the so-called media. " We're going racing. Contracts are signed, bikes are built, they're all riding down at Baker's Factory, semis will be on the road," said Tom Moen from KTM's press department. You wouldn’t want to wish that misfortune on anyone, let alone someone who has made such huge contributions to American motocross and built the KTM America program. Yeah I know it’s a joke I hope that his retirement isnt lopsided in KTM stock.
