Judging by some of the responses it seems like it’s not a big deal if the PMG lines faded off but then it dawned on me that this is a predominantly MX crowd so prob a more evenly split of OEM ownership. I race offroad where they own prob 75% of my local market. We have on avg 400 entries...

I don’t know if because of SM saturation or what but I have Deegan fatigue - he’s been the second coming of MX for damn near 15 yrs. Awesome rider/racer but can we just get on with and throw him the pit with Jett. He’s prob got more hrs on a bike than anyone out there - pull the bandaid...

I believe Triumph may be in a prime position for stealing market share that PMG may leave on the table, reason being is their money is not made with dirtbikes so they would be able to leverage the cost of their manufacturing with the unit price opposite of what PMG has done. Their bread and butter is not tied to their dirt sales. Similar to the Japanese model, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are mass producers of other products that supplement their off-road manufacturing. PMG is a dirt first orginization who had larger visions without the capital to get there...

You def don’t need to pay 10k to have a blast racing or riding. I race a 1998 KX250 in a Double Decade class in our Hare Scramble series and have more fun racing it than my 22 KTM XC. Sure my new bike is faster and stops better but the fun factor is not higher. More and more guys...

I was involved with the state of Pennsylvania's DCNR in hopes to promote and establish more dirt bike trails. It was fruitless. I sent Emails, letters, DMs, etc. to countless industry insiders, racing organizations, the AMA, manufacturers of bikes and parts, magazines, everybody connected to the sport I could think of to give me examples of the positive economic impact, health benefits. positive influence, etc. of dirt bikes and I only received one reply - from the Coombs family - nobody else. Government officials in my state in charge of outdoor recreation literally have no idea of the positive impact...

So I would assume if they do under bankruptcy protection then riders under contract will be standing in line like everyone else? Do they typically pay racer salaries up front or over the term of the contract?

with 6500 staff, that averages just over 6K each, not hard to get that liabilty with owed holiday pay and any redundancy clauses,

I think it’s more of a compounding affect - money was cheap during the Boom - they set production based on boom numbers - rapid % rates where prob not fully anticipated - Pay check to pay people dry up. Same with SXS and wave runners.

Well for being so easy they want around $1000 for a top end on a modern 4T. Not everyone does their own maint. That isn’t nothing to most people. Good luck on more riding areas - the only portion of the US population that likes dirt bikes are dirt bikers. We’ve peaked and should be thankful for what we have...

The early releases kept stating the motorcycle sales had cooled significantly due to higher sustained % rates driving down affordability. This take seems to have lost favor to the overproduction dialogue. Seems like the saturated used 4T bike market is a key component as well. COVID bikes are selling pretty at very reasonable prices here in TX.

Yeah you’d be looking at about a 40% reduction in available factory SX rides. Bidding for those places is going to def put downward pressure on COMP packages. I’m guessing more private CR22 like teams would surface and as stated older guys retiring. I am the most worried about the local dealers esp those not diversified with other brands.

I know a lot of manufacturers have come and gone in the last 50 years - any this big? Seems almost incomprehensible. Damn they own the amateur mini bike scene - what would that look like if they went away - Cobra would be king for sure in the 50s. Kawi and Yammy show above that 🤔

Similar to the evolution of sport bikes and, as Joey pointed out, many parallels to mountain bikes. Also consider the evolution of muscle cars and Jeeps/utility vehicles. Jeeps were designed to be cheap utility vehicles to bash off road. Now they are high end, overpriced monstrosities that are too expensive to risk damaging off road. Muscle cars started as cheap, quick, fun cars aimed at the 16-24 crowd. Now they are so overblown and overpriced that you only see gray hair in them. We can all recall the days in the 80's and early 90's when a GSXR-750 was $3500...

Ready to Race but what % of dirt bikers race these days? I’m curious if we haven’t now reached the predicted 4T cost of maintenance inflection point? I have seen a common scenario where young person pays $300 a month for a $11K dirt bike and then realizes it needs $2000 of regular maint in a year or two. Rather...

Received a call while pulling into Thunder Valley that my brother had to be airlifted from an River Valley in Dallas. His vitals were good but he had no feeling below his chest. He was experiencing a slight tingling sensation.

I’d be willing to bet that unless you hold a national or operate on family dirt - you can’t make an MX track pencil out in most states. Aside from ins try keeping heavy equipment operational these days. Unfortunately I see a world where the professional athletes are trained exclusively at private facilities and public tracks slowly fade.
