Wanted to update my post with new settings…. My bike felt amazing on a softer track with a deeper sandy base and that’s why I made my original post. It worked amazing. But yesterday, while riding a track with a harder base and some pot holes exiting the corners, it felt too stiff on the forks and shock. I was at first indifferent, then I kept reading the thread and saw all the replies from people who could have more easily moved onto a different thread but instead chose to take their jabs at someone who hasn't resigned himself to 40 years of working for the man like they did, so I made a venmo account and a donation. Great information I appreciate it. I almost hate to say this because it is such a squid thing to say, but I worry that I will be unsatisfied with the power or overall quality of the bike if I were to get a KX250. This kind of money on a brand new bike is a big purchase for me, and I want to make sure I don’t regret it. Although in all honesty, there is no way I could use all the power of any of the new 250’s. lol. They are definitely the best deal going in my area...

For sure, perception is reality. I was going on my experience with Yamahas, but of course I ride a 2-stroke. Stone cold reliable for 18 years on my old YZ250 and so far no problems with my '24. Also, don't confuse the engine failures that the race team has been having with the brand's reliability for showroom models. That said, I don't have any idea how unreliable the 4-valve thumpers are, as I've never owned one. Suzukis are great bikes. If you saw the attention to testing they give, you'd be impressed. Forgot about this one too😂 2001 YZ250 low hr original that I built to honor Jimmy Button Pj1 Extreme team. Only 2hrs on it this year, but will go up now that I have the forks and front brake situated …Very impressed with motor, just a head and jetting with PC pipe & silencer…. Bike rips!

My 98 cr250 is on it's 3rd crank and second cyl, and a dozen pistons on it , same barnett clutch since 99. Even wore the pegs smooth, So alot of hours!

Current riders: 2023 KTM 300SX 140hrs….its for sale😂 2024 KTM 350Sfx 70hrs ….keep this one until around 100-120hrs Vintage/Evo riders: 1989 Honda CR250..10hrs since total rebuild…4hrs this season 1993 Honda Cr125…35hrs since total refresh/build …6hrs this season… I have a bunch more Vintage / Evo bikes but the Honda”s are the only old bikes that are reliable enough to bring to a modern track & still get it done with minimal maintenance….like a newer bike….I usually average around 200hrs of riding a year, Mx and Gncc type tracks. Last few years has been tough with a junk knee thats needs...

My 2008 YZ125 has around 700 hours on it. I've done 12 top ends, and two bottom ends. My 2025 YZ250X has 35. I need to ride it more 😥

I'm not as tall as you are, but I do have the long arm syndrome. I run a flatter bar bend and when I've had adjustable triple clamps, I ran the clamps forward so I had more room in the rider compartment. (This raises the handlebar slightly, too.) One thing that really helped me is to run my levers higher than I used to when I was a kid. I had lots of arm pump issues until that little adjustment and it has made all the difference. You might try that. Finally, soft grips with lots of material also help...

There is a lot of great advice coming from this thread. Being about a foot shorter than you, I don't have any experience personally to dole out. But having been in the moto/handlebar game for 30+ years, I have seen it all. The ex-Indiana Pacers center, Rik Smits (7'4"), used to come into my shop and we would spend some quality time trying to figure out how to make him more comfortable on the bike. I don't want to come off 'smammy' but I also want to make sure we do our part to help riders find the right bar...

If anyone is struggling to get your KX450 forks dialed in, I’ll share what I did to get mine working better. I wanted more hold up, increased bottoming resistance, and still wanted to maintain the plush hand feel the stock forks have. I achieved this and best part is, this only cost me about $120 and a few hours of time.
