5/17/2023 8:02am The hardest thing to recalibrate your brain for is drum brakes. I've nearly ended up in a heap a few times stepping straight off a modern bike and being caught out by the brakes. They're easy enough to ride on modern tracks as I've jumped over the top of people on modern bikes on a YZ465, just remember that while it may clear a big table top, if the downside is close to a corner you may not be able to slow it down at that pace. My pick would be a 1977-78 YZ125 as they're not loads of money...

5/17/2023 8:02am Excellent tips on backing up the corner and standing--I'll remember that. I'll put Husky at the top of my list. It's convenient that I also think they're some of the best looking. Haha. Awesome photo, too. Thanks for the info!

5/17/2023 8:00am I currently race both modern XC and "vintage" moto/gran prix. I have a 2023 KTM XCF 250 and a 1980 Husky OR 390. The older bike have a few quarks, brakes suck, suspension sucks, heavy, hard to start, clutch pull suck or it slips but, there is no better filling than passing a modern bike on the old one. There are two technique changes that I have to be mindful of when I race the Husky - back the corner up and stand up as much as possible. The best mod you can do to the older bikes is work...

5/17/2023 7:59am If you plan on racing, find your local series and check their class rules. See where your possible bike purchase fits. Half the battle is keeping them together for a whole season.

5/17/2023 7:59am Years ago, I raced an ACR vintage MX ('87 KX125) and an AHRMA vintage XC ('81 Honda CM200T) race just to try it out. I'm no expert but my takeaways from ACR and AHRMA are: The vintage community is super welcoming, more so than the regular MX and XC races I frequent. They are all about comradery and just having a good time on cool bikes. If you can ride a modern bike around the course without issue, then navigating it on a vintage bike should not be an issue. The tracks tend to be tamed down and they even...

5/15/2023 10:11am If only there was some way to determine who was overall best through the year, you could like, give them "points" based on where they finished, and like make wins worth a little more, and if they don't finish or don't line up, don't give them any of these "points", then at the end of the year, you add them all up, and whoever did the best, adding up all the wins/losses/etc, would be the champion. What do you guys think?

5/15/2023 8:13am Hi everyone, I'm interested in getting involved in vintage motocross racing and am hoping to get some insight to the nuances of riding machinery from yesteryear from those of you who are familiar with it (my youth is showing ). I love the idea of the bikes, the culture, the history, and the chance to get into motocross (I come...

5/8/2023 8:09am Would be interesting if they made the position of the support adjustable. Give riders the opportunity to decide between more freedom and less support or vice versa.

4/26/2023 7:05am My *opinion*: 1 tracks have gotten too dangerous; big jumps everywhere and people hurt 2 bikes have gotten too fast, more people hurt 3 population growth has resulted in too many noise complaints, leading to many tracks closing 4 declining "middle class" who just want to have fun and not take it too seriously 5 increased knowledge of long term effects of concussions in kids

4/17/2023 7:41am for some reason i watched that race again today and just noticed the science of supercross in more depth. Could this possibly be the "cheap" way of having a "motocross controller" that looks something like that and works in the realistic ways we are all begging for? For some reason I just had the feeling watching that, but hell what do i know. that was the most incredible demonstration of how this stuff works, now if only a video game company had enough money for Just one of those guys' Salarys to work along side them and get all this...

4/17/2023 7:39am I understand the frustration with pricing, but don't forget how lucky you are to even have a local shop. So many of them are closing because they can't afford to stay in business, so unless you would rather be forced to mount your own tires 100% of the time, support your local businesses with a smile and direct the frustration...

4/17/2023 7:04am Actually being emotionally invested and up all night during the birth of a child is mentally tougher than waiting at home or in the lobby smoking a cigar. On top of that, he took a red eye and won a heat race. And then he was smart enough to not hurt himself or the people around him. I am in awe of what he did. I respect him more now.

4/17/2023 7:03am Geez, who knows what went down during the labor too. My first son came out not breathing, straight to NICU. Once he was stable and mom/baby were well, good 24 hours later, I was completely spent. I could hardly drive home let alone race a motorcycle. It was one of the scariest moments of my life so yeah, i get it.

3/22/2023 12:09pm Check out Dodge City MX also. It's 45 mins from you. It's new(ish), and I haven't been yet, but I know one of the guys who's involved with it and they're working really hard to make it a good place. I have a feeling it's pretty quiet out there.

3/22/2023 11:18am That's a good point about the rider not knowing what's ahead and making assumptions. He mentioned that he didn't expect the lights on that double to be on since the accident was behind him, so he wasn't specifically looking for them. If he hadn't made that assumption and had looked earlier, the mistake would've been avoided. He said he knew...
