...so when your Chinese gearbox locks up solid over the big jump and you lawn dart like Chase Sexton at Colorado, will the 2 grand less you spent on this thing be worth it? I'd buy a used Honda or KTM before I would trust this thing. Good luck finding parts easily too. Support your established Japanese and Austrian dirt bike dealers instead of a country that copies existing technology and sell it with lower quality materials. Fuck China.

My 2 cents. Hate away. It seems a lot of people are suckers for the marketing hype of a statements like “completely redesigned” or “ground up redesign”. What that really just means is “refined.” And I speak as a designer. Even the downdraft design change of the Honda is still just a refinement. The air box is still under the seat etc. Yamaha’s reverse engine was a new design of the engine that is. And what is with people saying it is old technology. The frame is not made of wood. It doesn’t use dual rear shocks. What technology is...

The RMZ is still a more capable bike than most people will ever be at motocross.

I don’t think this aspect gets the importance it deserves. Individual riders on other teams aren’t truly team mates - the Lawrences are. Even to the point of swapping bikes during practice to see what the other is doing.

It’s a combination of 20 things. Neutrality on the bike, foot placement, head forward, roll speed and throttle control, ability to process at high speed, reaction time, fitness and overall confidence. Extremely dialed in fundamentals.

Could also help that they’ve been with Honda for so long. Helps when you don’t have a different color fender to look down at every 2-3 years

I suspect a big part of it is recognizing and being able to communicate what a bike is doing to the suspension and engine techs to get the bike to do what they want it to. Not all riders are good at that.
