I think you gave the strongest argument for 80/90s training techniques. Why would they need him if it didn’t matter, if he wasn’t making a difference. O’mara has championships in both MX and MTB and has incredible technique. You can go to Aldon for 200k and learn to ride a road bike on a starvation diet between motos, or get advice from a legend. You choose.

But when you look at single laps you can say clever things like “he was the fastest rider out there” about someone who took longer to get to the finish line. Apparently, the idea that speed is distance divided by time is counterintuitive to some.

The USA has practice track riders, not racers. I don't know how many times during the Spring Creek broadcast of the 250 race Weege went off about Bennick and Cochran being faster than JuJu during the week. As if it is relevant.
