I pulled a 6x12 single axle for a couple years, in 2018 bought a new 7'x14' double axle with brakes. Definitely tows better, more room and having brakes is nice, we do lot's of trips over the Cascade mountains here in WA. Hard to say without knowing you financial situation. Its easy to say something is worth it when you dont have the same trade offs that others do. 6×12 is certainly doable. Youll still have the same amount of fun and the fuel mileage will be better. It will be a nice simple package without hassles. That being said, I've always felt that 7x14 is the perfect size. I bought a new one a few years ago and did a ton of research on them. I also wanted an aluminum. I ended buying a Legend brand but their Thunder line. It was more basic than their high end but I could add anything I wanted. I am sure prices have gone up but I got a 7x16 +v nose. With AC and heat, outlets insulation, etc for I believe it was $8200 out the door. It has been awesome but I did got to Michigan and pick it up.

7x14 is very nice. I'd first ask what will you be pulling it with? Do you plan to sleep in it sometimes? Tandem is very nice knowing that 1-flat is not quite as immediately catastrophic. One thing to consider, most of the reduced mpg's of a trailer comes from the aero drag, not the weight (assuming you are towing with a half-ton and not a lot of hills) and the difference between a 6x and a 7x is essentially nothing. They don’t work even in clinical trials. Regression to the mean is the norm here. Telling people to take unregulated and potentially risky things without good evidence is ill advised. if they worked so well, they’d be getting funded for additional trials to be brought to market. They didn’t and they aren’t, but people on the internet will believe (and buy) anything.
