I got back into the sport in 2004, Chad was my guy and after watching the Transworld video with I wanna say like Townley and a kid called Eli Tomac, I was a fan of that guy! Cheered for Eli since he joined the 250’s..
So when Chad retired, Eli was starting to come into form in the big bike class, and I have been a super fan ever since.
With Eli retiring, I don’t really have a next guy I really like. I cheer for Shimoda in the 250’s, but don’t really love any of the 450 guys. I was super stoked for Kenny’s SX title and Hunters MX title, but don’t really have a next guy to get right behind
Anyone that destroys Deegan is my guy
Funny you say that, personality is a huge reason I get behind riders, I loved that Chad would never give up, and Eli is a beast..
I love watching Deegan ride, he is fun to watch ride super aggressive.. but I can’t stand his podium talk or general behaviour
Deegan has a lot of room to mature. I think once he does, he will gain a boatload of fans.
You don't have to have a guy to enjoy watching good racing, come from behind charges, and riders with skills mere mortals don't possess.

Jett. Watching him ride is poetry in motion
Jett has been my guy since A2 in 2020 I think it was. His style was clearly head and shoulders above everyone else and I turned to my wife and said this kid was going to be a phenom. He endoed through the whoops and broke his wrist and she thought I was an idiot…but turned out I wasn’t so wrong after all hah
Kevin Sherman from Florida.
I agree with the OP. I am also a big ET3 fan. Gut punch to hear what we knew was coming. I admire the guys that ride the hell out of the bike, are very competitive but can win without knocking someone down. Ferrandis also calling it - before his injuries stacked up he was beast jr. He did have some clashes but I believe it was from eagerness not spite - say with like Barcia. Barcia and Roczen gone soon, Anderson not far behind nor is Stewart. Big turnover happening. A while generation of guys checking out.
I think Davies is a guy I can get behind although he is a year out from 450's. When he gets there will give the guys a fit. His head is in the right place, doesn't shoot off his mouth, etc. Also a fan of Shimoda but he has to get better at being a selfish competitive passer, and stop with the injuries. Not sure he is a champ but can be a top fiver/ tener. Most other 250 guys have had plenty of chances to show but just haven't. Other than Davies I don't see many challengers to the throne. I like Beumer's competitiveness but like others getting banged up a lot before even getting to the big show.
Sorry I can't get behind the Law Bros or Deegan. Too much drama, hype, coverage, etc. All talented but its all too much. Prado is the only real threat at the time in the 450's. Coenens and other GP guys could make it pretty interesting.
I don't play on that team.
(Not that there's anything wrong with that)
I love feel good stories. I never really have 1 guy to root for. These riders take so many risks every week for my entertainment, for me they can all win
grew up on RC , RC retired transition to dunge in middle school & high school , sophomore yr of high school 2012 along with dunge expanded my fandom with coop & Kenny , post dunge still with coop & Kenny and now current day altho im still with coop & Kenny , as I said in another thread I’ve growned out of my “fanboy” mindset the past couple yrs & just start embracing & enjoying the sport as is instead of just a single rider
Chase Sexton. I’ve always felt like he is the “chosen one” to beat Jett. But just hasn’t yet more than once.
I’m still hopeful. Worried? Yes, skeptical? Yes. Disappointed? Yes
Still hopeful
Twisting words on this quote:
Peter La Fleur: "I found that if you have a guy you root for, that guy might not ever win. But if you don't have one, then you are never disappointed. And I gotta tell ya... it feels phenomenal."
It was Jett. Now it’s H-dog.
My hero list in order of timeline:
Mark Barnett
Erik Kehoe
Mike Larocco
RC
Dungey
Roczen/Tomac
Honorable mention - Broc Glover. I never was a huge Broc fan during his racing years, but have talked to him a ton over the years seeing him at events. He is just such a cool guy and great to talk with.
............................................DEEEEEGAN......................................
The guy with the best story or I can relate to. Been rooting for hunter more and more. Just looking at the whole picture and all the mistakes he’s had to make that Jett got to learn from. The subconscious pressure he would have been under when the family moved across the world. And then it almost not working out for him in USA. It’s so cool to see him succeed at the top level now. On top of that he’s really level headed and mature which I relate too as a kid who was always mature for his age.
That and any under dog. Cole Davies is easy to root for, coming from obscurity to winning everything.
Ryder D is pretty fun to see do well too, can only imagine the mental rollercoaster he’s been on from winning everything as an amateur and being the guy to where he’s been at since he turned pro.
Also Justin Barcia, just love the bloke. What a personality
Pit Row
Tim Ferry
Great list!
Thoughts on adding Malcolm’s 450SX win with big brother James in the booth calling the race?
Wasn't expecting a dodgeball reference in this thread
I’m right there with ya sinking to the bottom. Hopeful for his return back to SX.
Maybe the new kids coming, the Coenen brothers
For a brief moment in time I was convinced Travis Pastrana could and would beat anyone. He was crazy fast but unfortunately the freestyle stuff and concussions ended his racing career much too early.
Later rooted for RC and then Tomac over the years.
Recent couple years I have followed Deegan move up thru the ranks.... Yes he is a douche bag off the bike but he is our fastest American and I am all for Americans beating others at American pro races.😉
Growing up it was Rick Johnson. 90’s no particular guy, would have probably been Damon Bradshaw if he stuck around longer. 2000’s was Trey Canard and Andrew Short. 2010’s was Villopoto, Weston Peick and then Tomac. In the future, I’ll be rooting a lot for Chance Hymas I think.
Julien Beaumer is my underdog. Jett is my top-tier hero. Roczen is my feel-good people's champ.
Since I saw there's a little bit of Deegan hate in this thread already, I'll add my villains. Not people I hate, but I don't like it as much when these guys win, for various illogical reasons: Chase Sexton, Cooper Webb, and yes, Dylan Ferrandis.
AP7 for me. But be warned it can be a frustrating experience.
I don't know who could fill my Tomac void yet after this weekend. I'm going to need time to process this.
Hunter …. Like the progression from injury to champion. Plus I like his car collection that he shares on Instagram. Seems like a cool guy.
