The problem is the race is more focused on the countries, and with the mixed brands on a team it doesn’t put an emphasis on the brand. It shouldn’t be up to the manufacturers to foot the bill for MXDN. I do think there should be a decent purse, but it shouldn’t be up to the manufacturers. IMO the manufacturers already foot the bill to much in this sport.

Imagine saying that in any other sport. They get the same exposure, if not more, at this race than any other race.

But its Deegan so everything he does or says gets shit on.

I think he's getting "shit on" because we've never really heard of anyone else making that demand, AND he has never gone. If Tomac, Dunge, etc were all getting paid and Deegan just wants the same, that's cool.

But as far as any of us know, this dude wants preterential treatment despite never stepping up once so far. Put me in the camp that want the AMA to tell him to take a hike and just roll with guys that actually want to go.

I’m also salary and I have to travel for work sometimes, work on a start up that runs over normal hours/weekends. I don’t get paid more when that happens so I guess you could say I work for free

Start there.

Maybe we end up with some former pros for a team to send or whoever.

Only if you want to go sign here. If you don’t want to, don’t sign here and let’s move on.

Without the USA it’s just another MXGP (and yes I do understand the MXON).

The AMA should make one of the conditions for Americans signing up for the AMA SuperMotocross Championship, is you may be selected to represent the AMA at the MXoN.

I don’t think riders should have to pay a dime out of their pocket to race MXdN. I also don’t think sponsors should be able to use the patriotic images in their ads unless they kick in financially to help fund it (not just providing product). Maybe I’m a flawed guy but it would bother me to spend $10-20k to get myself and family setup across the planet and see companies who sponsor me using those photos for ads to market their products for free.

Sponsors give riders money so they can use there likeness. Not sure what you’re on about.

when i made my comment i didnt have patriotism in mind. i was thinking more risk vs reward. another point one could make is the scheduling. smx final is sep 26. mxdn is the following weekend oct 2-4. it has to be a logistical nightmare.

Is MXDN even a relevant thing any longer? I mean...it's fun to watch I guess, but as far as having any meaning it's wayyyy past its expiration date. Kind of a pointless race to me. It's been said before, but the risk and money vs the reward makes it a useless event. Fun...but, not a serious race like it was 20 years ago. It could go the way of the DoDo and it wouldn't bother me one bit.

Nobody has to go if they don’t want to. If it’s too inconvenient, too logistically taxing, too expensive, too risky… don’t go. But demanding a bonus doesn’t solve for any of that, it just makes one seem entitled.

I’ve been to 3.  Yes they are, they’re more packed with fans than any race of the year so you tell me.

Like I said...it's fun to watch. But, so was RBSR. Both have about the same meaning...exibition races. Just seems like it's lost it's luster, to me at least.

This week in his Observations column he mentioned Deegan wanting a bonus for winning or podium, and how the AMA doesn’t have that kind of money. Meanwhile Star is doing the 50k per bike deal.

This brings up some interesting points. Should the manufacturers emphasize the MXDN and push riders to participate? For a one off race weekend it really puts out the numbers.

Personally I think it would be awesome if the sponsors and OEMS kicked in. The problem being the smaller countries won’t have a chance. Thoughts?

Should be up to the countries motocross federation to find sponsors/fund it IMO.

It's an extremely convoluted business. If you are team USA, you're essentially one of the top rock bands at a massive festival. Except, you're expected to pay to play. Sometimes bands will agree for a genuine charity event. Think 'Live Aid'. In the Motocross world, the charity seems to be the Luongo family. Free talent and a guaranteed 'sanction fee.' That's a pretty sweet deal in my book. To be fair, 'professional' athletes that hold out on the event, shouldn't be judged harshly. I've been guilty of it in the past. The old "Go represent your country!!" perspective. I might feel differently if it weren't only the riders and promoters expected to risk everything.... Sorry for the rant.

Well +30 is going to pay $0 in bonus money.

I wish I had delusional confidence like some of these dudes do. It’s not just deegan, or the pros either. A couple of my friends will go to a race & tell me they’re gonna win when they’re not even close. Then 2 weeks later say the same thing.

Why because our guys rarely win it these days ? It's the race I most look forward to every year .

Probably because you don't know shit about this sport except for what Deegan tells you.  You've obviously never been to one

Even if it’s just a rumor, the Deegans always talk about “growing the sport,” and sometimes that means actually giving something back. He really needs to go this year unless he’s truly hurt, because the last few years are filled with excuses and it's starting to look like a pattern. He wants to get paid, sure, but he could likely easily make up the difference with social media, merch, and fan goodwill that it infers greed if doesn't go without a bonus or pay. If he skips again, the backlash might hit hard with more of the neutral fans, and it may be right up there with the whole “RIP Jett” thing and the clowning won’t stop and continue.

Last year's raceday thread on Vital clocked up 35 pages - way more than SX or National raceday threads.

MXoN - Sunday: Races - Moto-Related - Motocross Forums / Message Boards - Vital MX

That's some going for an exhibition race that's lost its luster.

Everyone wants capitalism except in motocross. They want that to be socialist and no body is allowed to make money.

If you have the rights to an event and that event is profitable that’s a successful business. If the countries and teams that participate think it’s unfair then they can band together and refuse to go until something is changed.

I can’t stand all the people that hate Luongo and the Coombs as if they aren’t allowed to make a living off dirtbike racing.

Just a bunch of grown boys who can’t separate emotion from reason.

he also invites it upon himself.

Saying things like ‘I love the haters’ etc etc only brings them out more.

He has toned down the rhetoric towards the end of this season as he’s realized the Lawrence’s are a couple levels up from him currently.

Will be interesting to see how he handles a 450 in SX.

You're right in some respects, but off the mark as to this event, which gets pitched as some sort of non-profit olympic celebration of the sport that the participants are supposed to sacrifice self interest (apart from pride) for the glory of participating.

But it's a commercial olympic celebration of the sport, and Insport runs it as a commercial for profit event while trading on the "celebration of the sport" vibe to transfer costs and risks to just about every other participant - the teams, riders, local track operator, spectators, etc.

Insport should bear the cost of getting the teams there, and if they are running it for money then there's not really a legit complaint that riders want to get paid to bring the value that a rider brings to the event.

How you fairly balance all those risks, costs, and incentives while not cutting corners on making an exceptional event everyone is excited about is quite a trick to pull off.  It might be easier if it was run as a non-profit event and any surplus revenue at the end of the day is allocated among the different teams equally.

I don’t remember RC, MC, Stew, Dunge, Tomac or ANYONE asking for a single dollar to show up 🤔 almost like he thinks he’s special?

Also remember in 2019 when zacho and JA went over to Europe early just to prepare for 2019… On their own dime also for the most part..:.

Every one has their opinion here is my opinion.

We will continue to have this problem until the teams put it into the riders contracts that MXoN is mandatory if selected. In saying this riders need to be given pay just like a SX race win and some kind of winning bonus. The risk vs reward needs to be the same for the riders as a SX race, because racing the MXoN can jeopardize the riders SX season if they get injured.

Where do you get he is "Demanding"? and where do you get the "preferential" treatment from? Is simply starting the conversation to pay riders somehow bad? I mean doesn't it seem odd that everyone BUT riders get paid? Its about the riders anyway.

This is the problem, there is ZERO middle ground with anything to do with Deegan.

I also think its funny you think Deegan is the 1st to ask about being paid.

Like you really think after all these years no one else has asked?  Like come on. Use some common sense.

I was just about to mention it. Think they went 3 weeks early. Tested the GP spec bikes and frames etc.

When RJ went to France he said that he payed 20 grand for his entourage but was fine with that since it was him that wanted to bring them.

Some riders just love to ride and race and see it as an honor to do it for your country. It’s fucking hilarious that a rider that earn more on a off day than what 98% of the other riders that are attending MXdN want more money.

Just show some love for the sport and what it gives you the whole year otherwise and do one race for free.

But this is a good thing, we don’t want a rider like him tainting our favorite race of the year.

Do you think the IOC is some altruistic organization?

MXGP doesn’t pay purse money either. F1 doesn’t pay purse money.

If everyone thought they were getting such a raw deal they wouldn’t participate.

No one is the bad guy. I just find it funny how mad people get because they are making a profit from racing dirt bikes. Which is what any successful business tries to do.
