Our local TBT guy here in Oklahoma announced a couple days ago that he is longer with them.

Yeah, Brady was one of the couple that didn't attend the annual Summit TBT requires.

I assume like any normal job, if I have a mandatory meeting, going to race my dirt bike isn’t a good enough excuse to not attend. But what do I know?

And 9 out of 10 people don't need it. When did it become mandatory for a new bike to need a suspension revalve before even riding it? A local lad, graduated from an 85SX, bought a brand new YZ125, BEFORE he'd even ridden it, he sent the suspension off to be re-valved. I asked him why? He couldn't tell me.. He's not over/under 'normal' teenager weight for a YZ125. He's not particularly fast. He's not particularly slow. He's not riding woods, he's not doing freestyle, he's not doing beach racing or anything out of the normal conditions to what that bike was designed for. The suspension tuning industry in the UK has seriously got to people.

But you get such a cool sticker. If it makes you feel any better; Last time I picked up my stuff the tuner had an unused set off a works edition getting revalved and put on a snow bike.

Can you guys help me understand why a franchise model was used for a suspension shop? Never understood this.

And why is a suspension company spending a bunch of money for a Vegas boondoggle with motivational speakers?

What the fuck am I missing about the suspension tuning business?

Most people don’t need most of the things they own/buy.

we’re past that in society. Most of what we buy is consumerism, vogue, or novelty. Realistically the only technology improvements cars have made in the last 30 years is they break down more and the radios are different.

I used to feel the same way, but my last two bikes were AWFUL out of the box, like unrideable.  2018 Husqvarna TC250 and 2022 Honda CRF450R.  Great suspension once valved/sprung right on both but wow.  I'm 180lbs or less so it isn't like I'm far off from the target audience.  I'm the guy that used to never get a bike revalved, just keep the fluids changed and go when the gate drops.

The saga continues for Travis...... interesting character.

Seems the TBT Racing franchises are not going so good,  my friend xxxxxx xxxxx signed up, paid $15K to buy a district and then $600 a month.   Today he sent me this.     My $600 a month I pay him goes to him providing unlimited valving setups and marketing/exposure on all TBT socials. In 13 months there have been 4 total posts for me, 4 more with a Baja 1000 bike I did but no mention of me. He still refuses to give me a copy of my signed contract, threatened to put a boot in my ass a couple weeks when I told him I was going to get my attorney involved if he didn’t provide it.

Sent him a breach of contract letter May 1st, rather than contact me or negotiate per the contract he removed all my access to emails, wiped my info from the website, removed me from all What’s App groups and told people I voluntarily left. Same with the new guy from Colorado.

Sent him a follow up yesterday explaining I am still an active franchise under contract and he has until 5 pm to reactivate all my stuff or until Wednesday to get me a check purchasing my franchise back. I don’t expect either to happen so here we are.

Since the Colorado location was specifically mentioned in this thread, I feel it is fair to give my side of the story. I can only speak about my own documented experience.

I owned and operated an established suspension business before entering the TBT franchise relationship. I paid the franchise fee and completed training because I believed I was purchasing an organized franchise system with manuals, documented procedures, technical support, clear parts requirements, marketing assistance, and value from the TBT name.

That was not what I experienced.

I repeatedly had to chase basic information, follow up on unanswered emails and messages, ask multiple times for tune specifications, and search for required parts without being given clear part numbers or an organized approved-parts list. The contract stated that manuals or access to manuals would be provided, but meaningful operating manuals were never supplied to me.

Additional expectations involving a branded tent, table cover, flag, and shirts were communicated after the agreement was signed. Even after trying to comply, branded apparel and marketing materials were delayed, unavailable, or outdated.

I was also told there would be support involving existing Colorado customers and email outreach, but that support never meaningfully materialized. The small amount of TBT work I completed came from customers my existing business had already developed, rather than business generated by the franchise.

Within approximately three months, it became clear to me that the level of organization, support, and franchise value I believed I had purchased was not being delivered. I therefore requested a written termination and financial resolution.

Multiple written efforts by me and my attorneys to resolve the situation with TBT, Travis, and his counsel have either received delayed responses or no substantive response. The agreement remains disputed and has not been cleanly resolved.

I wish I had known about the turnover, support concerns, and experiences being discussed here before I signed. Based solely on my experience, the franchise was not worth the cost, time, or added risk.

I am not posting this to speak for anyone else or to interfere with anyone’s business. I am posting because my location was mentioned, I believe I should be able to accurately explain why I sought to leave, and I hope my experience helps someone conduct more due diligence and avoid the same hassle.

Here's a question to keep this topic upfront and keep others from falling in, whether owning or signing up for the "class": Who's the real problem?

Colorado, Colorado (again), Oklahoma, Oregon, Northeast, NorCal, Arizona all kicked out or, as it has been put, "chose to leave" because they didn't want to follow the "system", weren't committed enough or weren't competent business owners, in a period of 8 months even with contracts. Is that a franchise owner problem or a "business leader" problem. Accountability? Pride in the success of your franchises?

Franchise turnover rates vary but a 40% rate over that 8 month period should say something profound for such a small company. Make smart suspension choices!!!

Any hookups within the moto community, I'm sure there are lot's of guys that would not hesitate to share their first had experiences.

This seems like a straight up pyramid scheme? Surely this guy won't be able to operate this way for much longer before people reaslize and stop signing up? Also would have to think the customer base would soon catch on.

There is a TBT racing near me and the prices are outrageous, it would cost more for me to have my stuff revalved by a guy who started doing suspension out of his barn under the TBT name 2 years ago than send it to factory connection who operates with a factory race team and has nationwide factory support.

All I can say is I’ve had nothing but great experiences with Travis and his TBT dealer Corey here in Southern Utah. Travis has always been super kind to me and has always helped out whenever I’ve needed it especially after some serious TBIs I had a few years ago. I’ve always been extremely happy with their settings as well. He definitely knows what he’s doing. I’ve tried a lot of different companies in SoCal and a couple here in Utah and Travis seems to nail it with his valving and gives me the feel I’m looking for. TF is genuinely one of the most passionate humans you’d ever meet. Super glad to have TBT around here in Utah now as well.

Looked up “passionate” in the dictionary and that explains a lot.

That's awesome but I would say there are at least 7 franchise owners that are "passionate" about what they do and supporting their businesses and families that have been screwed over by the company or they wouldn't have bought in. Corey is a great guy, there are some really good people who have worked or currently work for the brand, because, like many, they have gotten sold one thing and delivered another as stated above in Colorado. There are many guys who currently own suspension shops that have been burnt, are they not "passionate" for what they do?

I'm not saying your right or wrong, my post was saying look at the big picture. When someone has to post regularly on FB how great of a person they are, how it's always everyone else's fault and they have no accountability for their own actions you end up with a mess like this. Check out the page, find a post where it's not putting fault on everyone else but him.
