Will there be more vet classes added to Loretta’s?

It seems like more and more people are continuing to ride and race well into their later years.

I’ve had this feeling lately that for local races we should all go to the Loretta’s model.

Just age and no skill divisions.  An a/b/c split for adults in increments of 5 years is so much.  We’re adults.  We can handle getting 12th against people our age.  Also would make local purse money bigger

Few years back I asked for a 54yr class.  Was asked a 50 THEN a 54 ... I politely responded NO ... a 50, 54 and THEN a 55 ... wait, make that a 54 7mo and 29day class.

Request denied. 🙄 whatever ...

Theyll never ADD any more classes due to time constraints. They almost need to start the program on Sunday as it is because practice day is a really full day and I was on track for less than 10 minutes in my one and only practice session.

I dont think we need more classes. Theres a fair amount. As many do know, I think the class structure could use a little reform. Most area qualifiers and even some regional very light in the vet classes compared to years prior. The way to bring these numbers back up is within the reform. So many won't even come to qualifiers because of the current structure.

Which regionals were light in the vet classes? Asking for a friend 😏

The yearly rumor of a +25 B/C or +30 B/C seems to always catch some sails before rule changes come out each Winter, but I agree on time constraint. Supermini 1 and 2 looked extremely light this year. Each class seems to ebb and flow though. I wonder if all of those "Im going to try next year" people would actually show up if they added some other classes to fit their narrative...

The race is supposed to showcase the best up and coming racers, not a festival for participation trophies.

I'm sorry, but if Dark can race it and be 45 seconds a lap slower than 85 riders, we're already pushing the boundaries of what the race is intended for IMO.

I'd disagree at the local level, the difference between A-C is massive.

Id say muddy creek was the only one that wasnt light.

Seems like alot of areas had 9 or less too.

World Vet at GH already has a class for everyone no need to turn Lorettas Amateur National, intended for up and coming riders, into another vet national. So yeah basically what Kyle978 said.

6-14 a non d16 points race at Aztalan had 27 in 50+ & 19 in 60+.   Aprox 4-5 tracks added  60 plus class it’s not d16 points . 2 separate series with in 1 state series hv 60 plus. There trying to get a d16 points class.  No Emig in 50+ this yr . I think a 55 or 60plus national class is needed.  Anyone 60& up is looking for a  60 plus class. And going vintage racing because they hv it . And a vintage national 60 plus too.

B/C wont ever happen again. Its way to hard to police. This would directly benefit a guy like me tho but I don't believe its fair or right. Screwing too many guys that rode locally in A but nothing more.

+25 needs replaced with Vet Pro which would be for anyone who has made the fast 40.

Only eligible for all other vet classes if youve never made the fast 40. This would tighten every class up instead of having the top guys riding around miles ahead of the pack. It would draw way more people to qualifiers and regionals and at the ranch. I hear it all the time from guys that they wont even waste the money on the current platform. It would be tighter battling from front to back because theyd all be amateurs. Who woulda thunk, amateurs racing an amateur national.

Once the professional skillset is developed, youre no longer an amateur. The pro skillset doesnt go away. Look at Ezra. How long since he even rode? Hops on this year and does a little riding then completely waxed everyone aside from a little battle with polvolny, who was also pro forever but never made it to Ezras pay grade. Zacho going to dilla under the factory semi? Phil getting paid by husky and if i recall, didnt he just race in Canada as a pro? Alessi is another example. "Retired" and milks Daytona, but is pro at arenacross or where ever, then comes off the couch for WSX. The structure above would be better for everyone. Probably draw some bigger old names for the vet pro class. Some probably dont ride it because they know its picking low hanging fruit and don't go for that look.

Youre right. Thats exactly where ex pros should focus their time. Not an amateur national. World vet, vet fest at red bud, vet masters at walkers place, the one across the pond. That's where they should race.

Zach & Phil got bonuses from there employer , how is that amateur racing ?  50 plus should be.  125,s only along with 60 plus if it existed.

Red Bud vet fest practice is today I think.  Racer x website has been down for a while.

The class structure at Lorettas is based on campground space, not rider demographics.

I know this sounds like the cynical, snarky answer but it's the truth.  That's why Wavey Davey does those Regional Championships... "we want your money, we just don't want you at Hurricane Mills."

Was quite a bit of room left in lot 5 this year. Could be onto something tho.

It's actually based on AMA class structure, input from OEM's and industry representatives. But keep telling yourself the bullshit so you sleep better at night.

I mean so is 1-3rd at Loretta’s and 30th-35th.

25 guys on the gate you’ll get to battle and it’s a 4 lap race.  Way shorter day and people sandbag to win +40B when they could be up with A riders.

I don't believe there should be any C class at Loretta's even the kids that have shown up on 85 have to immediately go to B Class but it is a business so I understand that side too.

I have always said run the most of the classes that week. Have the vet races the next week 3 days and call it Loretta Vet championship. Practice Thursday and race Friday and Saturday.

70+ has been around for a while Racer X vet series at Red Bud they only get 7 . Glen Helen has 70+ too I think. Red bud 23 had 40 in 60+ b4 they split the class to a& b. 15 or 19 in 65+.  David Hand won 60 , he did the nationals for 10+ yrs. Mostly on a 500 & still races a 500 at mid Ohio & a 2k cr250.  1 of the classes Carson Brown , Willard, Toth , then Hand on the 500.  Yeah he’s fast  & smooth yet. IMG 5936
