I turn 30 in a couple months. I both simultaneously feel 16 and 80 though.

Always remember, boys, you're not getting older, you're getting to live a while longer.  Make the most of it as you can.

I'll be 63 years young on Monday the 17th (and my 4th grandchild was born yesterday!).

Started riding the handmedown '71 Honda Trail 70 at 11 years old that my dad learned to ride on at 41, and my 3 siblings then eventually me, and I was hooked. Never raced motocross as a kid but followed moto with my dad from the early 70s, and did a few Hare Scrambles in NE Ohio and Western PA.

Of course we went to the drive-in to see On Any Sunday in the blue Colony Park Mercury stationwagon complete with fake wood side panels.

Earned the $425 for a brand new 1976 Hodaka Dirt Squirt, then a '77 Yamaha IT 175, IT400, IT465 then in '83 moved to Michigan and in time got in to moto thru guys I worked with. Got hooked on the open bikes '84 CR500. '87 CR500, '88 KTM 500, then finally dropped down to 250s (never had one) with a 1990 YZ 250 and learned how to ride hard without your arms being pulled off. 1992 KTM 250SX, '95 CR 250, '99 KTM 380, retired somewhat from moto back to the woods on a 2004 KTM 200EXC, '15 KTM 350 XC, and now a '18 KTM500, and Moto Morini X-Cape 649. Other kids bikes, play bikes, couple steet bikes here and there for fun. We still have my dad's 1977 Penton 400 MC5 in the family... Named John

For snoqualmies moto timeline post. My parents we're not into motorcycles, at all.  Sorry long read, turn back now unless your bored and have some time to kill 😄

1st motorcycle experience. I was young kid, don't remember how old. Our neighbors invited us to go camping at Leo Carillo state beach. The neighbor asked my parents if I wanted a ride on the "Yamaha" I had no idea wtf a "Yamaha" was.  All I remember from that weekend is they had a big silver trailer (Airstream) and not wanting to get of the back of the "yamaha".  Later that year they invited us to go camping again, this time to Joshua tree. That trip the ride on the bike was in the dirt, boom hooked.

1st time riding. Living in Redondo beach, my friends got Mini Trail 50's and would ride them around the neighborhood. My best friend did his paper route on his. It was the late 60's and no one gave a shit or a 2nd thought about it lol. They'd let me ride their bikes once in awhile but for the most part I was trailing behind on my Stingray. Enter the older neighbor kid next door. He knew I wasn't supposed to be on those dangerous things but had a Briggs powered Bonanza minibike. He told me if I painted it for him I could ride it. So I spent my allowance on a rattle can and some masking tape and in the neighbors patio did what was probably the worst paint job in history. (I had to be sneaky so his parents didn't find out and rat on me) My parents got divorced when I was 10 and pops moved to Co. with his new squeeze. That left my mom working and me with lots of free time to ride around the hood unsupervised. On the weekends my best friend with a mini trail and me had a good gig going.  He'd say he was spending the night at my house, and I'd say I was spending the night at his. Then we'd ride all over Redondo all night. We'd have to refuel for something like 57 cents between the two bikes. Looking back we were kind of little dickheads by todays standards. We'd try to wheelie and land the front tires on the little hoses that rang the bells at the gas stations until the attendant would chase us away. You guys remember full service gas stations right ? Trash cans were open season, we'd stick out our legs like we were jousting and tip the cans over at 10 or 15 houses in a row. All metal cans back then the sound was awesome lol. We'd go ride on the horseshoe pier, rip through El Retiro park and basically have a blast. That fun lasted until I was 13. Then Mom caught wind of what was going on, I got busted ditching school to go surfing instead (a lot) we discovered smoking pot and stealing liquor from our parents... so yeah enter part two.

Dad moves back to Ca. with my "New" mom, 2 younger brothers and sister from her side. We moved to Buena Park, uuugh... Funny thing though all the kids in Buena Park were into dirt bikes. New little bro (and me) were interested of course. So Dad gives in and the motorcycles that used to be too dangerous are now suddenly ok, so we get a Hodaka Ace100 to share. Started riding at "Motorcycle Hill" behind the Tastee Freeze on the corner of Beach Blvd and Rosecrans ? Anyway somewhere around there. then we saw On Any Sunday in a theater and were 100% hooked. Stayed for both showings more than once. I don't remember how many days it showed.

Age 15 moved to San Clemente (thank god) bought my first bike for transportation, a 72 SL70. Graduated in 77, moved out and bought a 76 XL175. We discovered Ocotillo Wells in 78 and started going out there almost every weekend in the winter.  Beat to shit 72 Chevy LUV truck, sleeping bag, cooler, coleman stove and lantern and a stripped down beat to shit 76 XL175. Upgraded to a 82' XL500 a few years later. That became my only transportation for awhile. I actually started my business on that bike. I was working for pool builder at the time, when the pools got done the new owners didn't know how to clean or take care of them. So I sold them the cleaning equipment to keep in their yards, a couple months worth of chemicals, and would do the route on the 500. Bill's pool service was born.

Racing started at age 30 lol. A very good friend of ours was an old desert racer turned motocrosser local concrete contractor named Dennis Rosenberg. He was giving us shit for yapping about how fast we were in Ocotillo and talked us into racing an REM race at Carlsbad. Thats a whole nuther story, we thought we were going to smoke everyone because he told us to race "Beginner" Boy were we in for a surprise when the gate dropped.  Raced as often as we could for 31 years until I had a good one at age 61 and had to call it quits. Still riding and camping only admittedly cruising on my dual sport. The kids and wife all ride and camp with us, and the grandkids will be starting on a PW50 this year. Sorry for the novel lol. Back on subject, turning 67 doesn't feel like "not much left" to me, almost more like just getting started, just a different chapter. 😎

I understand the humor in your descriptions of each age, but I'm in the 61-70 and have a lot left.  I plan to ride for another 40 years, at least, seriously.  I plan on living to 120.

If you'd like me to take part in the poll, you'll have to change the descriptions.  To use a golf term, at 60, we've just started on the back 9.

The older demographic around here makes sense...most of us started here (on the forums) before social media was even a thing (this was our social media)...all the younger kids grew up with social media and so they never needed a forum because they are on instagram, tiktok and facebook since they manage a touch screen.

37 clocking in

I started on a music forum before I had any other social media with this type of group conversations about singular topics and current events (tours and albums happening right now and in the past) all sharing a passion for 1 thing that we can't talk and learn with as much detail with most normal day to day people.  So this is what I like and when I found a moto forum I naturally jumped on.

I'll be 52 in November of this year

Seems like one day I'm 19 years old pitting our of a Mitsubishi Mighty Max at Sacramento Raceway for some 125 beginner action, and the next I'm 50+, church-of-350, can't get through the night without getting up to piss. It goes by quick.

On 11-18 I turn 60 I laugh when people said I,d never make it to 21.  Had a lot of injuries & surgeries from work . Last 4 yrs 3 days in a row of injections for months.  6-27 I had my 1st big 1 on a bike .  Paramedics gave me a fentanyl shot didn’t kill the pain but calmed my fighting for breath down. Didn’t think I would make the flight for life but I did. 7 broken ribs near my spine, collapsed lung , hole in it . Tension pneumothorax worst pressure & pain imaginable. Died in icu a few times , hearing yourself flat land & the big exhale & all life leaving your body is wild. Dr,s yelling your name then coming back .  3or 4 rotator cuffs tore & 1 strained also.  I was due for a big 1 all yr I knew something real bad was going to happen.  I figured a truck would take me out.  Next yr i,m still gonna ride & race . The vintage scene looks like fun . I,d Love to get a 90,s cr125 for that.

I was going to say that that's a little like mine. But that's a lot worse. All the best to you moto bro!

That was a good read Bill. I actually wish it was longer. I felt a sense of freedom reading that story...you took me back to my 70s and 80s...

Also made me think of the ET movie and the first Terminator flick.
