Just a couple of short months ago, a lot of people thought that Hunters only chance at a title would be SX this year…with his brother and Eli out along with certain circumstances that people said wouldn’t happen again.
Fast forward 3 months and the dude controls the class many many weekends. We’ve seen him grow from great in the class to exceptional in the last few months.
Hunter is a beast and extremely consistent if you look at his 450 stats.
Just a year ago people were asking Jett how he could keep it interesting and what rabbit he could chase to stay locked in…seems like that rabbit is going to be his brother for a few years at least
Hunter will win the 450 championship this year IMO. Also, as a side note, am I the only person who enjoys listening to Hunter over listening to Jett ? Hunter seems more down to earth, more humble, much more of a “regular guy “ .
Hunter is definitely the more mature and grounded of the two. It’s a pleasure to watch his interviews. Jett just wants to have fun.
Hunter is proof that hard work can overcome talent (meaning Jett level talent). Should motivate other top guys to keep working hard themselves as it will pay off..
Good observation and I’m definitely guilty of this. I knew he’d be good this year outdoors, but I definitely did not expect him to be this good. To be honest, after Supercross and the nationals this year, he’s my pick for 2027 Supercross champion if he comes in healthy.

With 3-5 capable race winners it ain’t over till the fat lady sings. With a bad start or crashes or a DNF anything can happen and can shuffle the points around some.
He reminds of a Ryan Dungey lite. His best chance will be with his bother on his back foot. He showed moto 2 when he can he can leave Hunter behind but he crashed. This season might be fools gold for everyone unless the injury bothers Jett for the rest of his career.
At this point the foot isn't Jetts problem.... the problem is between his ears... he crashed yesterday because a lapper got squirrely??? Wtfrick???
The lapper had moved over out of the way. Jett and Hunter are both pushing each other to the edge and going over it and falling throwing away the moto.
Jett is suffering out there for sure. Even when he wins he looks trashed afterwards. Hope after the playoffs he takes time to get healthy and back up to speed.
I wouldn't be surprised if he takes off time right after MX and even skips SMX. A lot of money, yes. But health is more important at this point.
Not riding during the week is the problem, and that is due to his foot.
Exactly. Hunter improved from last year, no doubt. Did he get that much faster to put 10-15sec on Jett some motos and run him down? He's beating a diminished Jett. Before I get attacked, huge fan of Hunter. I scoffed at all the people saying sx was Hunter's only chance at a 450 championship. Just saying his emergence is a combination of improving and Jett actually going backwards
He crashes because he can't properly grip the bike like he used to because he can barely put weight on the right foot. He has to completely change his riding style. Did he have to push like that in moto 2? Probably not. But that's probably the only chance for him to win this title at this point. Hunter is stronger at the end of the motos, if Jett doesn't drop him mid moto, Hunter will reel him back in. Jett doesn't have the fitness currently. He can't even ride and do full motos during the week due to recovery. It's mindblowing that he is even competitive like that. But seeing that scar and swelling he has.. He should probably take time off as soon as MX is over and recover until SX.
It seems like his muscle memory allows him to go this fast but his body can't keep up with the speed and that's why we see these crashes (mainly because he can't grip the bike properly).
I still expect Jett to win this title, until he doesn't. He showed in Moto 2 yesterday that he is still the best. Just tossed it away, being distracted and misjudging a rut. I think he is crashing due to a lack of riding.
That is a simple fix if his foot allows it. He kind of implied he is going to start riding more now. If his boot hadn't gotten caught in the bike, he might have gotten up and still won.
I was worried about the bike nailing him that hard in the leg
Never seen a handle bar stuck in a boot before!
Yeah wild, pinned him right down lol
Wouldn’t have happened if he had O’Show gators 😆
Pit Row
Hes anything but dungey like, Hunter looks faster and is a more open and interesting character
I absolutely agree with this.
Hunter has stepped it up AND Jett is clearly nowhere near 100%. With the bell curve these guys skill set is on, Jett at 100% may not look like him being 2 seconds faster a lap, but it might mean him not having tip overs or making so many costly mistakes…and a second or so a lap 😏
Are these 3-5 capable race winners in the room with us right now?
When both Jett and Hunter line up, there are 2 riders capable of winning a moto. When only Jett or only Hunter lines up, there is only one rider capable of winning a moto under normal circumstances
I’ve had that happen after going otb riding enduro, and man it really sucks lol. As you saw with Jett, it pins you against the ground hard and usually at a super awkward angle where you can’t get out from under it without someone else picking the bike up. 0/10 wouldn’t recommend
A Beast you say?
Hunter really opened my eyes to his potential last year at the Ironman MXoN, where he stomped everyone. Then I thought if he can just survive SX, he’ll be a contender for the ProMotocross title. Well, he definitely surprised us all in the stadiums and now he’s doing his thing outdoors. I hope he wins this thing.
Hunter has been the bridesmaid for so long, he's got to be hungry. He was so sportsmanlike to Roczen when the SX championship went down that he earned a fan for life. I hope he wins the outdoors and then we get to see a great fight for the SMX title between himself, Roczen, Jett, Tomac and even Deegan.
It's 2026, of course he looks faster.
Dungey won both titles his rookie 450 season, and 3 sx titles in a row. Results wise as of now its not close.
I think Hunter and Jett are both good interviews. I think Jett is a little better about providing some insights into what went on during a race.
Both are relatively open about stuff. Compared to the “secret squirrel” attitude we see from some riders/teams
Very different personalities. - Both come across as “brought up right”.
The 450 field IS heavily depleted. The only contenders are a rookie learning the 450 ropes, a still injured 450 champion, and an MXGP champ that hasn’t figured things out in the US yet for some unknown freaking reason (I think he likes the money too much vs wins). That’s it. I have said this before… Right now in this time HL96 SHOULD win. The Lawrence’s should set records. There has been a huge changing of the guard in 450 due to age and injury and the 250 are only producing a lot of name riders who stay injured or have not got the killer instinct and with no chance of really competing for 450 championships.
The Coenens, Davies, etc can’t get to 450’s soon enough in my opinion to liven things up. Somebody help! At least Tomac is riding again.
BTW don’t think HL96 is no saint either. I think he is still the guy who knocked Shimoda down and often had a chip on his shoulder because he couldn’t beat his healthy brother (or some other healthy, uninjured guys either) HE SHOULD WIN NOW. NO EXCUSE NOT TO.
That’s a lot of dumb takes in one comment.
