anytime he is pressured, he starts playing games, gets frantic, and pulls a brain fart. The brake checking, weaving back/forth, looking back, riding ultra defensive...
You think 450 guys are gonna play around w/ that? Until he races FORWARD, he's going to find himself picking up his bike. A LOT.
Tonight showed why Deegs is gonna struggle in 450s...

Barcia tried racing that way in the 450s... how many titles did he win? 😅
There just isn't time for that in the 450s... if cringe lord slams Jett, then hunta, chase, and Kenny are long gone...
The old heads are using an exhibition throw away race to cope. Going to be a long summer for you all.
So I do agree with some of this. He got impatient, and tried to make a move that wasn't there instead of waiting another lap. He's very good at being the hunter, less so the hunted..... right now.
That camp as a whole seems to be able to fix weaknesses. I bet they work on it.
that's exactly who i've compared Deegan to countless times: Barcia. The kamikaze moves that worked for barcia in 250s have not translated to 450s. Deegs gotta LOT of growing up to do. We'll see how fast he can do it.

You can call it an ‘exhibition throw away’, but don’t forget the fact that Deegs loves to exhibit his talent. No doubt he wanted to close out 250SX with another dominant win. Honestly it sounds like you’re the one trying to cope
Deegs is undeniably fast, and he wanted to win this race.
He’s going to be a contender in 450s this summer, but he’s not gonna be able to waste time playing games. We’ll probably see him lose out a few times from doing that sort of thing. But we’ll probably also see him learn from his mistakes and figure it out.
Similar race craft but I think Deegan is a much better rider/racer.
Hence why he rode over his head trying to catch Cole and went OTB. Guess he took the "throw away" race thing literally
i agree - which is going to put him closer to the front with better riders. When he DOES holeshot and then play these silly cat/mouse games, he's gonna sample dirt more often than not. Gonna be an interesting summer.
It's cope... Deegan can't handle being beat straight up. it's much easier for his ego to handle getting beat if he plays games and ends up on the ground. He's able to play it off just like he did last night 'hahaha that's just hard racing hahahaha and sometimes shit happens......' so he never has to say 'I just got beat tonight'
I’m not a Deegan fan. But I’ll give him credit any time a weakness has shown up in his riding and racing he has adapted and fixed it and continually became better and faster. I don’t see why this wouldn’t be the narrative moving forward.
Well, he still hasn't corrected his tendency to sweve-look back-brake check-go Freise, when the other guy is faster.
Ya exactly my point, that tendency still hasn’t prevented him from winning so he hasn’t needed to fix it, yet.
Naw he’ll get over it and figure it out. Jett’s brother ain’t got shit if he’s gonna be a choke artist when it counts.
Speaking of cope....
Deegs is going to surprise a lot of you.
This was Davies Super Bowl. Deegs has been focused on outdoors and the 450 for 2 months. Congrats to Cole I guess? Cole needs to be worried about getting worked by Hymas all summer than getting reeled in and holding up Deegs at a fair race.
Is there any chance that you're only on vital when drinking?
I doubt Deegan will win the first 450 at Pala...but, it wouldn't surprise me if he did. He knows exactly what he is up against in the 450 class and he likes winning. I doubt he'll win, but, I would never count him out. Fitness plays a huge role in the outdoors and he seems like he is always ready to race the entire time.
Pit Row
You bed bugs are wild lol. Deegan will be good on 450's but god damn you guys are unbearable with the amount of copium.
Deegs doesn't win: "He didn't even want to win so congrats I guess???"
It's literally you spike and like 3 other members that constantly spam bed bug ideology. FOH
When the going gets tough, play dirty, huh.
I don't see him struggling with speed but I do worry about him getting hurt for the reasons you gave, and I want a full season with he and 18. I'm expecting the Yamaha team and his trainers to impress upon him the art of patience to assuage his exuberance.
I too expect Deegan to have a few "moments" that keep him from winning a championship this year. I also expect him to "figure it out" at which point all of the old guard will be riding for a paycheck. Deegan, Davies, Jett and some of these recent kids are really impressive.
Yeah agree, i was pretty disappointed with him last night. I thought he would've understood by now that this is his major weakness and he has to stop doing that when he get challenged. Because he will be a total non-factor as 450 contender if he does it there as well. Play those games against Hunter or Chase? Well Eli, Jett and Kenny will blast by you and you will end up 4th or worse on the ground.
That riding just doesn't work in a stacked 450 class.
To your point, racing backwards and taking yourself out is indeed not going to fare well in 450's. But can't deny his amazing speed and fitness, he'll be fine and continue to mature. AC talked about the 250 guys mentality of kill or be killed that isn't present in 450's.
I think there is definitely going to be a learning curve and struggles along with some success. I fully expect Danger Boy to win some motos and overalls. The championship may be a bit of a stretch, but I wouldn’t be surprised at the end of it all, he was hoisting the number 1 over his head. At any rate it’s gonna be cool to watch ,week in and out.
I generally agree he has fixed almost every weakness except this one thing has been there for years. It cost him the smx title when he crashed out playin look back games with shimoda. Before that it caused drama with smith. For whatever reason whenever he gets caught his mind immediately stops racing forward and he worries about slowing down and messing with the guy behind him and it starts to screw his race up. Its been a thing for a while now.
Eh, not a Deegan fan, but I expect him to play it fairly safe in the 450s. At least for his initial season.
I'm sure either he knows or people around him are telling him there's no way he can "play with his food" with the big dogs.
If he blasts Jett off a berm, he'll be paying for it forever. He doesn't have a brother or any friends out there.
Deegan won't struggle for a long time in 450cc category.
95 ^% of time his head games work. Shimoda and Davies gave it back to him and he looked like a idiot. I hope more 450 riders give it right back to him. He has been doing it since he was a amateur.
I think when Deegs is in the zone, he will have something for everyone in the 450 class. He will have his bad races, too. But he is going to put a dent in the 450 class. How big that dent is, we will soon find out !
It ought to be fun.
