Your Dad sounds like one hell of a man
Making your hobby your job, is doomed to ruin both.
Not related to riding, but before I got married, I was told by multiple people that no matter what “it’s always your fault”. Never understood that or made sense but now.. um yea, it somehow is always my fault 🤣.

Best advice in life - never pull out
😁
Never take a laxative and a sleeping pill at the same time.
"Plant your corn early"
Seriously, "Look where you want to go".
Elbows up
Breathe!
Sounds simple but it's the first thing you won't do properly when things get intense on the track. Holding my breathe equals instant arm pump.
From my late Aunt when I graduated college, "The World is Your Oyster".
Meaning, you are in a position to take the opportunities that life has to offer...
That’s the most Wisconsin shit I done ever did see. What a guy.
Be ruthless with your time.
“If you’re not comfortable, don’t do it…but don’t be a pussy”
Accelerate on the downhills, no one else does it, easy passes. Advice from Kent Howerton
When I was younger learning to fish. I was told, I’m not holding my mouth right. It took me years to figure this one out. Hahahaha wise words from my second mom.🤣
Look ahead, drag your brakes, steer, with your leg.
Every year at our club we would get a clinic day from a (former) Pro. These guys learned me a lot, even when I was already riding moto 10+ years.
Marc de Reuver - Only 1 finger on the clutch lever. Preferably the middle finger. With two fingers you're way too strong and you'll easily abuse your clutch to the point that you burn it within one moto. As a Dutchie, we obviously tend to use the clutch a lot in the sandy and muddy conditions. So he basically saved my dad a lot of money with this trick.
Joel Smets - Ride on your toes. He teached us this already in 2007. Basically described it as an extra suspension that goes through your legs. Something Ryno has been preaching for years now. Smets already shared it back then. I was on 65s.
Jeremy van Horebeek - Never downshift mid-air. It slows you down on landings. He teached this to us at a table top with an 180 degree turn 10m afterwards. Mid-air we were all downshifting and landing on the brakes to be in the right gear, but he teached us to accelerate on the landing and only downshift once we entered the turn. This little tip probably only saves you 0,5sec but he explained that if you add it up to an entire track it can easily be 2-2,5 seconds a lap. Never thought about that. Shows how these top pro's think
Pit Row
And give you problems
-Stand up
-Use your front brake
-Look far ahead
-Forget about turning pro
😄
your front brake is 80% of your stopping power. That was in an old Dirt Bike or MXA back in the day.
Marty Smith used to teach similar in his Riding Clinic I attended in ~2006. He emphasized how that stand/sit timing was critical to going as deep into a corner as you could with momentum standing, before sitting and accelerating out of the turns.
Look ahead! Get your eyes off your front fender.
I bought a power sports store. It was great fun, until it wasn't.
if you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it again?
Stay out of non-moto.
Riding wise I went to riding class with David Bailey at Carlsbad. Tons of good information all day long. The ones that stuck in my mind were
Don't stare at the gate until the last few seconds, when the starters running towards the dog house or the card goes sideways. He said you can only "Super concentrate" for a few seconds, if you stare at the gate too soon your mind will wander.
Treat every straight like the start straight, every lap. No cruising or resting, keep the intensity high.
When you're practicing pick a corner and keep going faster until you fall down, find the limit.
Learn bike set up and what the clickers do. Turn every clicker all the way in and go do some laps, then back out every clicker all the way and go do some laps. Try to learn what clicker does what.
And then after a hot lap when everyone almost ran into him he yelled, "Get your visors up and look ahead" !! lol
If it F**ks, floats, or flies, lease don't buy!
Don't bet on Bluebird in the 5th.........
