The thing is, Max did see it coming, he said so, and he thought he was out of the way far enough to avoid it, but Deegan still couldn’t help himself, which is why Anstie said “wow” when watching the replay.

Exactly. Don't know why so many people are not understanding this

My guess is Max thought for sure Dirty Deegan wouldn't  take out his own teammate.

I think he thought Danger Boy wouldn't hesitate to take him out, so he moved out of the way and let him by.

What he didn't think, would be that Danger Boy would actively try his best to take him out.

Because it’s a full professional, well paying class without an age limit.

The biggest problem with Max getting even is that in this rare case Bobby will step in and tell Max to not even think about it.   Bobby is all for team conflict until he knows someone will actually grab his golden boy by the neck and give him an attitude adjustment.

After 250 sx, Bobby isnt even the guy paying Deegan anymore. As long as a Star rider wins, what's Bobby care which one it is?

He was being a gentleman and letting Deegs go by incident free but the gift wasn’t good enough, had to make sure Max was taxed a few seconds also.  I enjoyed Max’s comments on it and basically said didn’t know we were playing that game but looks like we are.  Seems there will be no more “nice guy” moves to be had from Max in Deegs direction.

Will be there to see it happen at A2

Bout dumbest thing Max could do is respond at A2.

Called supercross and racing a kid still growing pubes.

Be smarter

You think Brown, Davalos, Ryno, Tedesco, idk another 30 year old rider would be a "gentlemen" . Its racing and its supercross, he should of known better.

You didn't start growing pubes until you were 20? Some things are better kept to yourself homie

So you’re saying Chase should be better than that? Weird, he ran it right in on Cooper without any issue. Chase never gets these opportunities because he takes himself out almost every race Smile

Could not agree more.

Let's face it the whole industry and vast majority of the fans want him to do it. Take away the Lebron James style paid marketing campaign w/BOTS and we would see it. Absolutely ZERO chances the Deegandashians aren't paying for this.

Bullies only understand one thing....otherwise it will only get worse. We all know it.

Deegan makes a career of it. Your point missed the mark. One instance vs a career of it.

Yup, 'Swervin Mervin'.

In the 80s / the early 90s, he was quite infamous for his way of riding.

From what I'd read in TMX / Dirt Bike Rider and other Brit mags, he was not that popular with quite a few fellow riders.

Here's a ( Jack Burnicle ?) pic of Merv and Thorpe at the 1985 Farleigh GP. Featured in robgvx's fantastic book. Dave did an epic recovery from this, by the way.

Rob could perhaps, shed some light on if Merv really was the 'villain' I recall him being reputed to be .

Merv Anstie and Dave Thorpe crash at Farleigh Castle 500GP in 1985 .jpg?VersionId=uLMDpWcufwBN

I recall also Merv creating quite  few kerfluffles during Max's younger years, both in Britain and the USA.

Max did a lot of travelling / racing as a youngster, and, he's been doing so for many years now. Good on him, I say.

Max has not lived up to Mervs 'legend'.

I raced with Merv back in the day and often practiced with him midweek. It wasn’t that he was unpopular with the other riders he was just a bit “out there” compared to most guys.

He REALLY wanted to win and sometimes rode a bit “strangely” to do so but he never intentionally took a guy completely out.

In a lot of ways he was ahead of his time - he started seeing a sports psychologist in England back when everyone still thought that stuff was all voodoo black magic, he was one of the first guys to start rider training schools etc, etc.

Max's only mistake was thinking his teammate might have a sliver of decency somewhere inside of him. Bet he doesn't make that same mistake again.

Notice the 450 podium guys all go back and forth and race each other hard without being little cunts about it?

Deegan will be humbled. Going to be up to him how many championships he's willing to cost himself before it happens.

Why would Max think that?  He's with the kid every week.  He knows he knocks down teammates even though he's fast enough that he doesn't need to.

I would think there is a mutual respect on the practice track and he is not doing that during the week to other team members. Then the race day comes and he switches it up. That was my guess at least on what Max was surprised about and why he didn’t expect it on race day. Makes me wonder if the people in his ear on race day are encouraging him to take no prisoners and make sure there is no chance of a points battle at the end of the series.

Even the heat race, just before the pass he hammered one of the bowl turns and looked like he   was trying to scare Max and he changed his mind. Figured he saved that surprise for the main

There have been reports over the years that it's not always kumbaya at the Star practice track with the 250 riders.

I'm going to blame the victim here; Max should either ride more defensively or yield the position more quickly. Go to the inside and shut Deegan down, or realize Deegan has the line and DON'T ride the apex of the bowl turn knowing he's underneath you. If a dog keeps biting you and you know the dog is going to bite you, should you be upset when you get close to the dog and he bites you again?

Same with Kitchen; ride more defensively and be more aware of a championship contender coming up on you. Certainly Kitchen isn't doing any favors with that move and may not receive the same professional courtesy in the future from Max. But with Deegan what did Max really expect?

Watched the race again today. Sure looked like Deegs was already going for Max two turns before he finally took him out. Max eventually checked up to let him by, then regretted the decision shortly after. Should have known better and just let him by in the rhythm. It’s also not simple to just “ride the berm higher”. That thing is pretty carved out mid-moto and at that point you’re trying to hold line against a staircase.

Not a Deegan guy, but he sure af gets a lot of grief around here, while a guy like Barcia gets glazed over when he would slam into people constantly.

Here's an idea for Max...if you get the lead and want to not worry about those behind...be faster than they are.

The delusional hatred toward the kid for every move he makes and the extreme double standards everywhere are proof that this kid is in everyone's head (mostly the fans). The way everyone's panties bunch up whenever he flinches is pretty astounding. I know he's a punk, but I'm starting to like the show.

P.S. For the more mentally challenged readers here, this doesn't mean I'm Deegan fan. It means I think he is getting a shit deal and it has officially swung the other way. You guys are worse to Deegan than he is to others, and the scales got to tip the other way now. Just calling a spade a spade.
