Yep. I have a talar dome lesion from a rolled ankle years ago that ended distance running for me. I was putting in 60 miles a week on the trails and loved it. Otherwise known as an OCD, osteochondral defect, they don't heal. I wear custom orthotics now to keep it from throbbing and traded my running shoes for a mountain bike.

Yeah man, I miss it. Was a tough pill to swallow.

I can be out on the MTB the whole day but couldn't run 120 yards if my life depended on it...

Absolutely sucks for Jett.  He’s the favorite to win and he knows it.

SX is not MX and while I expect/expected him to score more points than anyone else, he wasn’t going to win all the mains, like he does outdoor overalls…

The SX title is now up for grabs and I wouldn’t be surprised to see multiple guys lead the points this year.  Eli, Chase, Roczen and Webb will all be really close.  Hunter too if he gets a little more consistent, which wouldn’t be a surprise.  Those Jett wins, now spread out to the field, Stewart should get another, AP could get another…

But if Jett’s recovery goes well, watch out for outdoors…

If Jett's out I'd love to see Eli get this.  But, my wiener would poke out if Kenny won it as well.

Agreed on both counts!!

Wouldn’t be surprised if he misses all of 2026. If it doesn’t heal properly it could be a career ender.
When you think of a talus fracture, the correlate is a scaphoid wrist fracture.

A friend of mine broke his talus and tib/fib in a big crash a year and a half ago. It's been nothing but a painful misery for him. After a couple surgeries he wound up having it fused a month ago. Not saying Jetts situation is gonna go this way, but its a brutal injury.

What movement or impact breaks a Talus and Navicular? Feet are relatively well protected.

foot-anatomy-2.jpg?VersionId=1b xBS3DowqAlmost certainly hyper dorsiflexion. Think of toes on pegs and hard landing. Bend the foot back hard and fast enough and those bones get crunched. Same motion that gets the Achilles sometimes.

Not sure this riding on the balls of the feet thing is the best for career longevity.....

From Google.... this sucks...

Recovery from combined broken talus and navicular bones generally takes 6 to 12 months for full healing, with 8–12 weeks of non-weight bearing. Initial treatment involves 6–8 weeks of casting/booting, followed by physical therapy to address stiffness and swelling that may last for several months.
Recovery Timeline Breakdown

0-8 Weeks (Initial Phase): Immobilization in a cast or boot is required, with strict non-weight bearing for 6-12 weeks for the talus. Swelling and pain are common.

8-12 Weeks (Healing Phase): If X-rays confirm adequate bone healing, patients gradually begin progressive weight-bearing and physical therapy to restore range of motion.

3-6 Months (Rehabilitation Phase): Strengthening exercises continue. Patients may still experience lingering stiffness, pain, or swelling, particularly in the ankle.

6-12+ Months (Final Recovery): While most return to normal activities within 6 months, maximum improvement and return to high-impact sports may take up to a year or longer.

Key Considerations

Surgery: Surgical stabilization with screws or plates is common to restore the shape of the talus, which is crucial due to its limited blood supply.

Complications: Risks include stiffness, chronic pain, and arthritis, or avascular necrosis (bone death) if blood supply was severely damaged.

Navicular Specifics: While some minor avulsion fractures of the navicular might heal faster (about 6-8 weeks), a combined, more severe injury involving the talus generally adheres to the longer, 12-week non-weight bearing timeline.

Jett’s awesome but I always thought it would be a tall order to beat the records of RC and MC.  Now you see why.  Those guys ran their whole careers with virtually no injuries.  Avoiding injury will prove more difficult for Jett than winning championships.  Hope he gets well soon!

Not a knock on Jett at all, but this will be the second of the last three Supercross seasons he’s missed. It really puts into perspective just how special McGrath was. He raced big boy supercross for a full decade without missing a single race—never mind an entire season—and managed to win 7 out of 10 championships in the process. Absolutely mind-blowing!

That was roughly the timline for me when i crushed my navicular, broke my talis and cuboid .  Sorry for any spelling mistakes.

My navicular was crushed after bailing and landing feet first into the backside of a landing on an areancross

I was lucky and unlucky enough to have had multiple top  surgeons who

worked on olympic skiers and red sox players etc.

The point is They had some stuff available to help speed healing. Helped promote bloodflow and  that was in 2000.  I was blown  away at the differance between a sports rehab place that works with top athletes and my experiances at  a regular  physical therapy.

There have been Alot of advancements since I was injuried so i hope that Jett is able to heal up fast. I didnt see how bad any of the bones were broken but that timeline is a realistic one for the average person. An athlete in the shape jett is in with the money behind him will have access to lots of stuff that should shorten the healing timeframe.

This will be unpopular and get down voted but this is why I felt the “73 win” talk at 20 years old was putting unnecessary pressure on his career. He’s still young but man, back to back years is tough.

Stew went through it in 08 and 10 and it took a lot of wind out of his sails.

I don't think it put pressure on him, but we all knew it was dumb to be talking about considering how tough it is to stay healthy enough in this sport to achieve it.

If his ACL timeline showed us anything, don’t assume anything google shows you, what your friends talus fracture was, yours, or any of ours… I’d like to assume being one of the top moto athletes, RedBull has some special folks at his disposal who will get him back better than ever.

Broke my talus in 08-09 or so. That thing still gives me issues daily. Bad mobility, and a lot of days I’m limping from the pain that comes and goes. Have to where work boots loose on that foot or get a lot of pain. Good luck to Jett

The Lawrence family has been thru an injury spell before with Hunter so they know what they gotta do to keep Jett motivated. Hunters been the guinea pig for this side of too for the family unfortunately. Also, when was Honda supposed to announce Jett’s extension?

Great news! Been laid up 6 months from a staff infection. Only thing I have been looking forward to, was a McGrath like domination of SX from Jett. Or atleast a Honda domination, winning every round between the Hunter brothers. Can we click ahead to next year already? Been looking forward to 26 SX since Jett got hurt, now got to wait till 27 SX. Don't watch MX anymore, changed jobs and can not watch at work. Not wasting a summer day to watch MX at home.

Jett and Hunter were hucking some big booters just a few days ago here in SoCal, and now he's the first casualty of the supercross carnage.  Let's hope there are no more men down before we get started.  Heal up soon Jett and enjoy this clip while on the mend.

Just adding some insight. Here’s a breakdown and timeline of future hockey hall of famer Ryan Suter’s broken talus and recovery. Jett will have a similar level of elite doctors and rehab.
