I have lost so many nights digging for these and searching google earth. It is a bit off putting just how far back you can get decent aerial images

Take a look at all those coolibah trees
What was the oval track right next to the runway? I went to a few USGP's in the early 80's, but never raced at Carlsbad, and I don't recall reading about any oval track racing at Carlsbad?
Are you talking about the dirt track next to the drag strip?
They held midget races on that oval track from the mid 80's thru mid 90's, I believe. I was fortunate enough to get to race Carlsbad many times from the late 70's thru the mid 90's, such an awesome place. Always a fun day to drive down the coast from OC to Carlsbad. We would always stop on the way out and watch the drag races for a while, too. Great memories from that track for sure...

Steel City, I miss this track so much
I'm sure I'm parked somewhere in that photo. 😂
Pit Row
The old Lakewood (pre Thunder Valley) track. Certainly not "legendary", but I sure liked it. Sigh...
The aerial sure does Whitney no justice. The up and down look flat.
Goon o fortune! Blow them back up at the end of the night and there’s your pillow
Not historical but X-Track was an Atlanta classic. Ezra used to come here to ride on his factory CR250. His corner speed was something to see.
2002, near its heyday. Hard to see where the track was, but it was a really great and long layout with a 100ft tabletop. It was sugar dirt, kind of a mix of clay and sand. Perfect traction right after a rain. One guy from South Carolina jumped the 100fter on a KTM dual sport.

The neighbors took the owners to court due to noise, this was right when 4-strokes and straight-through racing pipes were taking over. They got it shut down.
2024: track is long since grown over. They were pulling sand from this area for a while, not sure if that's still happening.

Legendary because who would have thought Jimmy Weinert, Roger Decoster and Pierre Karsmakers would have raced in the river batture in New Orleans. Good river sand track that jumped up and down some levees built in the river side of the main flood levee of the Mississippi. Was located somewhere in the yellow circle but I was too little to remember exactly where. It’s where the motocross hook was set for my lifelong journey.
