Does anyone make decent gloves anymore?  I have tried 2 different brands and they seem to self destruct after a ride or two.  I just opened up a new pair yesterday and the seam was already split open on one of them.

We have been happy with TLD gloves - specifically the 'Air' model.  Never had any seams split - the construction is good.  They do wear holes through them though, but that's to be expected with any glove.  They're pretty thin which gives great feel which is what we're after here.  As far as durability - I'd say they seem to last anywhere between 10-15 riding hours before holes start to wear through in the areas with the most friction.

I've given up on the 'name brands', just buy from AliExpress.  Super surprised at how cheap they do 'em, and some last quite well.  Buy a couple of test pairs from different suppliers, see which work for you.   Why pay big $$$ for the big brands, when they're made in China anyway.  (probably at the same factory)

I use 100% gloves, they are very comfortables but doesn’t last too much, Use to get a new pair every 2/3 months (I ride like two or three times at month). Last week I got an astars pair but didn’t try them yet

Does it seem like the expensive gloves fall apart sooner than the cheap gloves?

What kind of protection do you expect? I have a pair of Troy Lee's with probably 20 hours on them and one of the stickers on the index finger just started flaking but other than that they look new.

My Fly stuff does seem to start splitting but closer to 10 hours than 1-2

I dislike getting whacked in the knuckles by branches, etc.  and I grew up on JT, so I’m probably going to try a pair of the JT Vintage gloves next.

I recommend the Sinasalo's from the early 90s, Still have em, stinky and full of holes but I can still wear em. lol

I like 100% but have bought some Oneils from the Motosport clearance rack, I like em for 7 dollars

Not even gonna lie, the Hardy gloves from Harbor Freight are great.  Lots of different options to meet different needs and wants.  They're inexpensive and they last forever.

I wish I still had my Sinisalo SCD gloves from the late '80s. Those things lasted for years and years. I don't know what happened to them, but I bet they're lost and not thrown away.

I started to try some.   But afraid it would blow all my MX fashion maven cool!  Heck I may even have a pair in a drawer in the garage.

The moose gloves I bought recently come apart after a ride or two seems like.  The elastic wrist bands separate from the glove.

I have had good luck with Astars radar and techstar gloves. The sizing doesn’t run consistent year to year though.  I have also had good luck with 100% but the Astars probably last longer. The made in Vietnam gloves seem to hold up better than the made in China ones.

I used to always wear fox, but the last pair ripped apart when I was putting them on, and theybwere brand new.  The old Pawtectors used to be great.

I do fond that in the last 10 years they have started spliting at the seams much quicker than in the past. Ive been using fxr gear for the last 5 years and the gloves hold up ok. I get about 10 hrs ridw time on them. Somewhere between 8-12 they start spliting at the seams if I haven't crashed on them. I tried like 8 other brands over these 5 years and it doesn't seem much better or worse with any other brand.

The one thing ive done the last 2 years that helps the most is just swapping gloves every moto. I have 10 pairs now and just rotate every moto.

Also depends on how tight you like your glove to fit. I like mine tight and thin. So swapping every moto helps them not get stretchedswell. well.

Yes.  I ride off road, so I like there to be some sort of padding or plastic on the back of the hands, so my hands don't sting when they get smacked by a bush.

But most of the MX gloves have nothing but fabric on the backs.  I've been using the Leatt Moto 4.5.  The have some back/knuckle protection.  But they are $80+ and my fingertips start wearing holes in the end of the gloves after about 10 rides.Screenshot 2025-10-28 121705

Hey Mike, you should design a "vintage" glove with the pads on the backs like to old JT stuff... :-)

And why are gloves athletic for sizing now like gear, ie runs small? I’ve been a 10/L forever. But in last few years have had to get xl and even a pair of Thor I just bought were xxl. Luckily I am somewhat close to a dealer who sells lots of close out gear. I fo a couple times a year and buy several pairs of gloves, all for like $4 each. Just picked up several answer and those a couple weeks ago, none more than $7.

I found a NOS pair of Fox Pawtectors on Ebay to use for mtb riding.  They were probably about 5-7 years old.  Have been using them for about 2 years (including regular washing) and they're still pretty much good as new.  They get less wear on a mtb than they would in mx, but they are much sturdier than current gloves and do provide protection for the back of your hands from branches, etc.  Please, can't we go back to the old way??

I buy many pairs of the cheapest gloves I can find...and just cycle through them as they wear out.  Seems to be the best practice.  I think cheap new gloves feel way better than expensive worn gloves anyway.

I've had super good luck with these, I've never had a pair split or fall apart and have tons of hours on them.  I don't love the fit on the newest version though. I recently got their new supertech glove and it fits a size small but the fit itself is insane.  They are a total bitch to get on your hand but they fit more like a golf glove but feel far more durable.  I only have like 5 hours on them but still look brand new.

Try these. FXR Dual Reflex Gloves. Super comfy, very durable, protect your palms if you have a get-off. Love them.b3e600b7a3329b24916cb7ca6111ac7b 800x.jpg?VersionId=Rn5dWQPFqKWszJS.f

All the TLD stuff has gotten so thin though.  I've switched over to Fasthouse at least it's all made a little heavier
