The weight of the banana so far behind the CG would explain the front end being so high.
Tapping rear brake in the air drops the front. Grabbing the front brake will ALSO drop the front. Gassing it hard in the air will pull the front end UP.
This crash looked identical to the Hangtown crash. And then the bizarre motions he went through with the bike when he picked it up was just ultra weird. I don't know what to think of the guy anymore and don't feel like we can trust him at the MXoN.

My theory is honda took jetts start button (lars button?) and connected it Chase front brake. You noticed how fukt jets starts were, right? So lars used the button to eject chase. Its so obvious. The honda team is taking sexton serious this time and not taking any chances. They had no choice but sacrifice jetts starts for chases loss. No choice.
Provd me wrong if you're gay.
What you drinkin tonight?
Makes about as much sense as most of the other theories, including the statement from Ian Harrison.
Maybe there was a shooter in the grassy knoll....
lol yeah he grabbed every lever he could… because yeah, you know, Chase is a C rider with little riding experience and just grabs levers in a panic. Lol
Even if he was on the front brake hard on takeoff the front wheel would start moving even just a little bit just from momentum and coming off the takeoff. It did not spin at all. It was locked up on takeoff.
Seems like you might grab front brakes and any lever you can in a panic, but I can assure Chase is not grabbing his front brake mid air in a panic. 😆
Grabbing the front brake in the air will not drop the front like tapping the rear. If the bars are even tilted at the slightest, the bike is getting all wonky .
if you don’t believe me, go hit a big jump and grab a handful of front brake and post the video here…. Probably from the ER.
Wait, so there are still people who think seat bouncing enacts Loony Toons BOING! logic?
I'm open to hearing all arguments. The energy from the compressed spring has to go somewhere.
Since the Chase crash is pretty much off the rails.
I did not participate in the "seat bounce" saga... And I'm not suggesting anything today either. But I am throwing this out just for fun, not agreeing or disagreeing... 😆
i've gone into panic mode and hit my front brake in the air, it looked just like Sexton's boner air bro
Funny how it happened 5 seconds after passing a downed Hunter Lawrence, raises many suspicions.
Watch the clip from the press release. Looks to me like the front wheel was spinning and stops when the bars turn. I’m not going to speculate how the wheel stopped because I don’t know. Many here seem to have the inside knowledge though.
Teefus would've had a field day with you on this one!
IDK, man.... I destroyed 2 years of college physics....
there's some real holes in the prevailing theory..... changing the angle the bike is at on the face of the jump doesn't change the direction of forces being applied to the jump face by the wheel and doesn't explain the different flight path, only explains the position of the bike as it follows the fight path. Any increased upward trajectory has to come from more force being applied in that direction. The spinning wheel on a fixed angle jump can't do that.
I think the reality is it's probably a combination of factors but insisting that the shock rebounding does not contribute seems hard to argue.
Pit Row
Maybe I'm slow, but what would be those suspicions ?
I used to feel the same way!
That’s a lot of words for an argument that essentially boils down to “spring goes boing”
Picture going over a speed bump with no suspension vs having suspension. One will soak up the bump and the other would launch you. If you compress the shock on the face of the jump by seat bouncing, you’re not allowing most of that energy to get soaked up by the shock travel since you’re deliberately loading it beforehand.
Imagine a whoop section. A free, unloaded bike can push through the whoops and soak up the bumps. If you try to go through the whoops with a dead shock, you’re going to die because the energy has nowhere else to go other than through the bike/rider. I’ve always saw seat bouncing as eliminating the energy soaked up by regular shock travel, not a spring board effect.
Spent a lot of time on the tractor this past week so not hard to imagine hitting bumps with no suspension, back is still feeling it....
That explanation makes sense. So more a matter of conserving any potential upward force instead of losing it to the suspension. The angle of the bike is insignificant and could get same effect with spring so stiff it doesn't compress at all.
Springs do go boing though!
I feel like some of you never seat bounced. Where you load & unload the bike (at the transition versus the face) and rebound speed can make a big difference. Ask bubba.
how did seat bounce even get introduced here?
The component you aren’t considering is the rider…. Part of the entire seat bounce to jump process is the follow through in the air that is effectively a bunny hop on a bicycle by the rider. You are compressing the suspension at the base of the jump and as it begins to unload, the rider is amplifying that effect by lifting the bike, and the suspension unloading is assisting this effect, causing the bike to go higher/farther…
Well, now I guess I’m part of the seat bounce saga…
Sexton is a total headcase.
IMO Chase has fought those demons and won.
Over the years he has been clearly emotional and struggling to be better. He's far more open than most pros about it. Self critical, but put always put in the work to resolve his mistakes.
I think he turned a cormer toward the wnd of sx this year. He finally learned to muzzle his ego the right amount. He was overzealous at tge round he threw away an overalll at whatever triple crown he tried to split some lappers going for a win, and then was too conservative in that mudder where coop made up a tone of time the last lap.
I think he's the best he's ever been.
^ This is an observation I remember making with Teefus back in the day. We must have DM'ed each other 20 times before I finally bullied him into agreeing with me.
Miss that dude...
My racing days were a long time ago. And we didn't have a "seat bounce" back then, mainly because there weren't any jumps that really needed it, so the technique hadn't been developed that I am aware of. But there was a section on the Saddleback "back" track that had a normal jump and then before the corner had a hump. The 125's and most 250's were jump then roll the hump, then my dad saw Ron Turner on a 250 turn the hump into a downside... This was 1981 so the bikes were starting to get a lot better. We went over and watched and noticed he was forcing the bike into the face of the jump and compressing it, then lifting as he went up the jump face, flying higher and farther. The hump wasn't notably risky and after a few attempts, I was able to do it. I believe the seat bounce is a modern evolution of this technique.
