That KX looks pretty tuff. I like the black on it.

Now the question is, does he actually retire now or run the #1 plate next year?

Retire. Come back to race select rounds on the bike of his choice with his father as his mechanic and in the back of a pick up truck.

Has anyone ever won a national title without winning an overall? Gotta be some kind of record. He fought through some clear struggles with comfort on the bike and was able to be the one consistent guy by not giving up. Well earned.

Yes, Jean michele bayle. 1991 or 92 250cc

Ferry won the 125 East title in 1997 without winning a race, some might say that doesn't count though. 🤷‍♂️

At the World Championships level, Steve Ramon won the 2007 (what is now the MXGP) Title without, at least, an Overall - I'm not sure if he did or didn't win a Moto.

It's cool to see Grumpy get a championship!

There's even a pic where he's smiling!

Congrats Phil . I would say 500k with 60k for top 5,s something unrealistic in Canada . Then retire you want to quit on top . And you hv the we couldn’t come to terms with a contract excuse . A championship without a moto win is never happening again . No one ever repeated without winning a moto . Invest the bonus I don’t see riders contracts going up next yr .  Marv raced up there in the 125-150 class . I wouldn’t be surprised if he raced the 450 class next yr.  AC9 might get the itch to race again . It’s a little like racing in a European country without racing in Europe. A stronger series riders # wise .  I thought he would get the points lead from all the exp he has . But not sure if he would holdup . The 20 min + 1 helped . . But he did so Good job Phil

I could imagine Philthy doing that and it would be awesome. Great ending to a series that seemed to have a bit of everything going on.

Specially for someone that apparently retired like 3x times that's so frikkin cool! Congrats, Phil.

Time now for him to show up at Unadilla and Budds and smoke the field, doubt anyone has a chance!

Also probably the only rider in the world that can flip off the whole crowd and everyone just loves it. 😂

Jean-Michel Bayle won the 1991 250 outdoor title with no overall wins.

Supposedly he didn't take out an insurance policy on winning the title.
