Feel like we’re going to see more and more of this with the implementation of SMX. They need to cut a race or two from each SX and MX and give these guys a legit period of rest and recovery. MX, SX, and SMX is too much for these guys, as much as I like watching the races.

He cooked himself in 24 rounds over then span on 7 months. Even if they took a race or two from each series, he still would be where he is at right now. I think these guys are getting older but are not training as if they are.

As far as the schedule goes, I wonder how many riders would be okay with a pay cut to race a few less times a year? I'd wager next to none.

His highly paid trainer is supposed to have him on a program to get him through the season!

A few less races, especially SX.
Less riding during the week.  Do NFL players simulate multiple games during the week at full effort?

You have Jett and Hunter eating steak, hot dogs, ice cream, bacon and eggs and gasp! bread. There needs to be more balance. AP looks really skinny this year. 10 more pounds would not hurt him.

That razors edge of fat percentage like AP is hard on the immune system and shocking, another one crashes. I just don't see it as healthy and that is kind of my own personal feeling on it. Chase looks like an athlete.  AP looks like a triathlete

We’re seeing the oldest 450 class ever. Extend their career and race less for less money? He already has that option, it’s called part time, like what Roczen is doing. When it’s time, it’s time. Just because a 30 year old guy who’s been racing the 450 class for 6 years and hasn’t won a single moto gets gassed halfway through the year on one of the strictest training regimes doesn’t mean they need to change the sport.

MURRIETA, Calif. - Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Aaron Plessinger has been ruled out of this weekend's Washougal round of the 2025 Pro Motocross Championship to further address ongoing health issues that have affected him at the RedBud and Spring Creek Nationals in recent weeks.
Plessinger will be sidelined for Round 8 of the season in order to seek further medical advice while prioritizing his health and fitness, before aiming to return to racing onboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION for the final three races of the outdoors.

Ian Harrison, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: "The whole Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team is fully behind Aaron Plessinger, everyone’s favorite Cowboy. Our priority right now is making sure he receives the best medical advice and care possible. Aaron came into RedBud not at 100 percent, but he gave it his all and continued to push through to line up at Millville. Unfortunately, he felt the effects of his illness early on and, despite fighting hard in the first moto, was completely depleted and unable to recover for the second. By sitting out Washougal and heading into the break, it gives him a few weeks to focus on figuring out exactly what’s going on with his health. Most importantly, it allows him time to gain peace of mind and make the best decision on when he’s ready to return to racing."

Plessinger opened his Pro Motocross campaign with two podiums across the opening three rounds, with a season-high result of second overall coming in Round 2 at Hangtown. Illness forced him to withdraw from Moto 2 at RedBud and then, despite attempting to push through, he also was forced out of Millville during Moto 1 when it became clear that he wasn't fully recovered.

With two weekends off between Washougal and Round 9 at Ironman Raceway on August 9th, both Plessinger and the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team will work together to ensure he is in position to regain 100 percent fitness for the final stages of Pro Motocross and the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) post-season. He is currently ranked third in the SMX standings.

The whole Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team is fully behind Aaron Plessinger, everyone’s favorite Cowboy.

Please please please please stop with the Cowboy stuff!

It's completely contrived and hasn't caught on with any real fans of the sport. It's only TV tampons like Leigh Diffey that bang on about it. And now Ian Harrison? He should tell the PR person writing this bollocks to cease and desist.

Sexton's bicep is larger than the whole of AP. Poor bugger. Aldon's a weirdo with this diet stuff.

There’s a whole lot of stuff about A Baker’s diet stuff. AP looks like he needs some weightlifting and more protein.

His diet demands don’t sound too off the wall. For AP, he just may need a little red meat and more protein, since he’s already a skinny guy, unlike someone like RC, Webb, or RV.

Not sure I am following the logic here...Bakers program is so bad it only took 3.5 years to make Plessinger sick? 🤔

I don’t think the amount of racing is the problem. It’s everything in between - training, diet and travel. The racing is the easy part for these guys.

Logic is in short supply, everyone saying they should cut back on the amount of races, does that include all of the off season these guys do every year as well? Obviously they want to race and earn…

Most of these guys race off-season races anyway, how can you complain there are too many races in a year when in their downtime (off-season) they go to different countries to RACE more.

Racers wanna race.

I can attest to this, I am a small boned man at 6'0 and have weighed 185ish my entire adult life.  I lift weights every day, drink protein and eat whole foods. I am still consisdered a bean pole. Some of us it is just harder to pack on mass. But he needs it!

What was the timeline for Marvin, RV, Dungey, and Kenny? 2-4 years for them and they were all done, right?

All the best to Ap and his recovery. He doesn’t seem like the type of guy to sit out for no reason.

He is very thin and I can relate. When I was 16-20. I was 160lbs at 6’3”. I couldn’t put weight on no matter how much i worked out and ate, much to the disapproval of my football coach. Got a lot stronger but just couldn’t put weight on. About the time I turned 21 and started drinking ( it’s the only change I made) I put on about 50lbs and I still hover around 210lbs to this day at 48. A lot of people would still call me too thin but most of them are overweight.

Almost like eating fatty, but nutrient-heavy, foods (steak, eggs) is actually good for you.

Except, without SMX would Plessinger have even lined up at Millville?  I think SMX creates incentive for these guys to ride MX, who would have previously pulled the plug at the slightest hint of injury or illness.

J Coop, Mookie and Savatgy are the only 3 450 guys to hit every round in SX & MX.

I’m not sure how many other people travel for your jobs; but I get sick after most trips. The exposure to germs in an airplane, uber, taxi etc… is hard on the immune system. And I’m not a world-class athlete.

Add in the extreme physical demands of the sport with the hectic schedule, I can see how these athletes get sick. And they really don’t have the opportunity to rest to recover.

I can imagine it catches up to you.

I agree with the cringe on the "cowboy" persona. Never been a fan of it. I wasn't a fan of the lameass Ronnie Mac act either. Now I've gotta run outside and tell the neighbor kids to get the hell off my lawn!

Aldon's slogan should be overworked and underfed. AP needs to eat a steak or burger, or something.

Seriously. Mx riders burn insane smounts of calories. No need for these guys to eat like birds.

Wasn't Michael Phelps taking in 12,000 calories a day when he was training hard?

AP has made just about every race in SX and MX so far (like JCoop someone mentioned). He may just be tapped out a little.

The MXGP guys run alot of off-season races but don't seem to have the same occurrence of mystery illness as the US teams do. Why is that? Better diet, not overtraining? Do all the US facilities (Aldon's, Club MX) just compete all the time until they are smoked at the actual races.
