Please name prior riders that were "pumped to the gills" in comparison to the current flock. My guess is that PEDS came on the scene in the 90s, when they did in most sports, and are likely still around today. I don't see any evidence that the usage has swung wildly one way or another.
That's what I'm getting at, in my opinion a lot of these guys don't have enough nutrition and recovery built in to their programs. They look sick, so it's not a surprise to me that they are sick.
In comparison GP guys "look" healthier and more durable, and I don't recall much discussion of EBV or sickness over there. Someone from across the pond please correct me if I'm wrong.
This is actually a VERY good underrated point that’s not talked about enough. On a recent podcast Alex Martin was on, he spent about 20 minutes talking about this. He was saying how now more than ever testosterone levels are so imbalanced or low for men, and how it hugely affects performance. Even in his troll training program he mentions that they have you go to a doctor to get tested. At one point he even said he believes all factory teams should be having their riders regularly checked for testosterone levels and make sure they have enough.

Did he discuss what they can do about it? I'm 53 and I use Androgel to keep my levels in a happy place. I'm assuming that pro athletes that are tested for PEDs can't do that.
I can’t remember what his solution was, I think he just talked about taking testosterone from a doctor prescribed. If you want to listen to the podcast it was Gypsy Tales about 2-3 weeks ago.
I do remember he said the more cardio you do the more you produce estrogen and more strength training you do produces testosterone, specifically heavy lifting squats he said was a very good natural way for producing more testosterone.
It’s ignorant not to have guys checked, but I’m not sure the teams can force them to? They also should get eye exams. Max Muncy from the Dodgers figured out his eyesight was off after having a bad stretch, but why aren’t his eyes getting checked, at least yearly? These guys are investments. It makes no sense. They should all have nutritionists too. I see some of them eating things that are not productive in fueling their body and keeping them at peak performance.
Any pro athlete should look at rest, nutrition, recovery as part of their job. Whatever is needed to be their best.
They’ve probably all been wiggling their worm in the same pond and caught the same fish.
I got some blood work done just for a standard physically & I asked the doc to check my test levels since I race at a decently high level. Just was asked a bunch about where my levels were. I’m 33 years old. Does anybody know where test levels should be at?
Mine are all in check according to the windows provided. Now they’ve sent me a bill for $700 😂😂😂 I asked if they lost my insurance card & then said insurance paid $100. Love it.
Just wanted to comment on AP from purely an observational standpoint (meaning I don't actually know shit)...
He looks emaciated, quite characteristic of a rider who trains rigorously under Aldon. When I see that all I can think is "This dude needs rest days and a little more food"... But again, I don't know shit.
I'd say less time doing PT sessions in an airconditioned room and spend more time out in the actual climate.
i kind of agree but "correct diet" and optimal diet are differnt and theres a lot of BS in the nutrition field. but all we can do is speculate
Ya know…there might be something to all the Epstein-Barr stuff…just make sure you’re getting plenty of this…?
Maybe go out for a steak with Hunta,
If you train under a guy named Baker expect to be cooked.
Prior to ~2001, recurrent ebv wasn't believed by most physicians to occur; if a person contracted mono, it was believed they could not get mono again, and many people who told their doctors that "they felt like they have mono again" were disregarded - often they were told to seek professional counseling. Some cases of cfs (chronic fatigue syndrome, sometimes called "Yuppie Flu" years ago) may have been recurrent/chronic ebv. 95% of the population tests + for ebv, and many people are exposed to it as young children, most without any symptoms; the primary test used for diagnosing ebv doesn't distinguish between prior infection, new infection, and recurrent infection. A mega-study published in 2022 (tracking 10 million US military personnel over 20 years) linked ebv infection and ms (there were a few publications linking them going back 40 years, but they were small studies in comparison). Many doctors/health care professionals (and trainers) began to take chronic/recurrent ebv seriously around 2010; the mega-study has resulted in more hcp's testing patients for ebv. The only "cure" for ebv (resulting in a negative test result for a person previously testing +) afaik is a bone marrow transplant, with a cure-rate of ~25%, and generally not covered by insurance. EBV's relationship with other diseases is unclear. "More studies needed" genuinely applies with ebv. Whether chronic/recurrent ebv is causing problems for many, or even for any, is debatable; that it does occur is much more certain. Whether some trainers/physicians/hcps "suggest" recurrent ebv as a means to "recurrent" (and costly) treatments, including the sales of their own special "secret-ingredient" supplements..., well, be wary. And remember, in the US, supplements aren't required to actually do anything.
(I'm not a diagnostic hcp; if I've stated anything that is wrong or needs to be updated, please correct me. Ebv is not my field of study. Apol for not providing refs - however, I checked the Wiki page for ebv AFTER writing this, and it's quite good, with refs, and I recommend it for anyone looking for more info.)
A few of you have mentioned testosterone levels. Low body fat levels like a lot of these guys have will cause low testosterone. That is absolutely not good for recovery.
Pit Row
How many guys have lower than a healthy amount of body fat?
Many of them are cycling many hours per week, pretty sure it’s not done in an air conditioned environment
The season is too long, too many races.
Limit should be 10 sx and 10 outdoors.
Smx is 3
23 total.....thats it!
Rest up, family/home time, gives the staff some much needed time off.
Perfect, are we adjusting salaries for the additional R&R?
When you get into really low bf levels your energy is low, too. I cant think of any of these guy that are really ripped. Lean, yes. Not shredded though
Demanding that much out of the body is stress, from the cardio to the weekday practice motos racing on the weekend, travelling increased race schedule, injuries etc.
Then you have the mental stress to perform everyday.
Yeah it's not going to be great ok the body.
Stress straight up ages you, look at the bike guys who do tour de France all look premature aged.
It's the modern generation.. people are weak as piss these days.
Sounds like more riders need to try the 30 plant challenge (eating 30 different vegetables or plant based foods per week) it maximizes the guts micro biome and helps with immunity. I have personally not been sick since I started it a few years ago
Yes stress is the #1 reason . Any 18 to 25 should be able to handle extreme work load. 29 yr yr olds that do the same are freaks but the age shows up against a 24 yr old. I never got sick in 10 yrs working on the strongest hhg rig in the world , 1,200 degrees from 2 industrial kat engines & the exhaust blowing on ya. While u attack sprinting 100 lb bags surrounded by other machines kicking heat off , then sprint to work down bellow. Flying I never got sick at that time. Marines jacked on roids usually quit the 1st day , smart because you end up with big injuries & surgeries . Your body has a memory of big injuries reconstructed knees , broken backs, etc. if your not winning your trying to get there & probably do way more than the winner. Adding more stress because reguardless of the effort training . Your just not as fast & your burning yourself into a hole. They start too young 4 yrs old by the time there 15 there burnt out . The biggest age to quit all sports is 15. I bought a bike from
A gncc pro we talked about body rehab regular part of life. I dump 5/6 epson salts in a hot tub for 1 .5 hrs save water then ice bath in& out for 8 hrs. It’s works but it’s draining on your body. The gncc guy just used water & ice to bath.
When RC got svelte.
You ever had it, TG ?
And, continued to partake of it?
If so, you are (quite) different to most 'Mericans.
It seems to scare them, or even, make them cry.
That said, as my Nan used to say "it tastes like Crushed Ants" , and, she might have had something with that.
I love it, and I'm one of those lunatics that have it millimeters deep - none of that pathetic thin scrapes over toast that so many wimps go for!
I'm about to have 8 SAOs with Vegemite, while I watch Dopesick - Vegemite is My OxyContin - well, Vegemite and Caramello Koalas!
