Looked like rib injuries to me. Had the wind knocked out, slow to move, kinda hunched over. Slap down crashes like that have broken my ribs a couple times. And concussions from that type of crash, even on softer terrain, are a thing. A couple of cracked or separated ribs and a concussion could definitely keep a guy out for a few weeks

I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV…

I don't think waiting to come in for goggles was that insane of a decision, he wasn't right behind anyone and was trying to wait until the field spread out a little thinking if he pulled in for 10 seconds he would get passed by 2 people instead of 5 similar to a first turn crash vs mid race.

Its crazy to say thats why he crashed, was he distracted? Probably, and that could have led to it but its not like he missed a rut because he was blind. Riding without goggles isnt that crazy until you are getting roosted obviously.

I’ll have to disagree.  If he pulls off in the first couple of laps he’s easily fast enough to get back to 5th or 4th or thereabouts.  Combine that with the risk of eye injury and it’s somewhat of a no brainer.

Gift of hindsight. You're not wrong, but if it goes slightly differently, the extra pass or two he didn't have to make could have been a title. Goes from a clutch gametime decision to "another silly error". I think he definitely knows about what a couple points can be worth right now.

The old phrase comes to mind - “you can’t win a championship in the first round but you can lose it”

Do you guys remember in 23 when he crashed and sat out Hangtown, he came back at Red Bud and raced the rest of the season even though he was going to KTM the next year.

Thinking that he is going to stay home until his Kawi deal starts is dumb. If he can race, he will.

Well he has to be! He hits the ground more than a professional bull rider.

Pala hates Chase. The place just beats him down.

As ungodly fast as he is, he's just as thick headed. So many dumb head scratching decisions.

Call me crazy, but this feels like Cooper Webb and KTM in 2023.

Chase is obviously not happy. The backwards hat deal is weird.

Would not suprise me a bit to not see him on a KTM again. Or he could come back at Red Bud and Win.

Of course this is just speculation, but to me that's exactly it. When he pulls in the the mechanics area he taps his helmet, almost as if his team had just asked him "what's wrong?" and he's replying with "I hit my head". Of course he could also be referring to his goggles, that's why I'm speculating.

I don't think he would be sitting out for this long if it was just general soreness though, but we all know now how serious concussions can be. I feel like in this sport is still considered taboo to admit to have received one though.

On a personal note I've only had 2 a couple of years ago. The first one I was knocked out pretty good and had to be taken to the hospital, the second one, a few months later, was much milder and although I was present in the moment it took me all but 10-20 seconds to realize I was concussed and something was definitely not right. Again, if I have to guess, Chase might also have had a mild one and that's why he was able to ride off the track and look somewhat normal.

Expect the rest of this season to be like 2023. Chase comes back, no championship pressure, and is on Jetts ass the remaining races. Best thing about this year is we have ET3 to mix it up as well. No perfect season for Jett, he'll have his hands full

Chase not pulling in for goggles right away will go down as one of the most head scratching decisions of the year.

Not settling for 2nd in Arlington lost him the title.

The two big ones I point to are that one and not settling for second in Tampa when Mookie was on rails. They had a decent lead on third. He ended up 6th that night I believe. Those two cost him the title.

This is weird.

Weird that an injured rider is taking a week off?

Chase will go down as the poorest decision making championship contender of all time. How many titles would he have now in SX and MX if he could think more clearly?  At least 1, maybe 2.

Maybe.  But it's also possible that part of his speed comes from the way he thinks about racing.  Maybe if he starts to make more conscious decisions on the track it impairs his overall speed.

Bet he’s out for 3-6 weeks.

Well if it is a concussion, that would be recommended.

Once again, you're not wrong, but given the situation he was just in, you could see why he would try to prolong stopping for goggles. If the crash even was caused by him not having goggles.

Jett and Eli back @ 100% may have played a big part in all of this .

Chase has never won a title with these guys @100% so his head may have been rattled prior to gate dropping.

Kawi or not i do think hes a racer just has had a weird mindset @ several points in his career

should have pulled in and put on goggles and blitzed for the front in most peoples opnion .

Any idea how Chase did his rookie year in 450? Did he have any speed?

Funnily enough this wasn’t Chase’s fault at all, that was one of the craziest main events

Did nobody notice he pointed to his head right after he pulled in and stopped? Don't really understand the speculation regarding his injuries when he couldn't have made it any more obvious that he concussed himself.

I know hindsight from a couch is easy!

I don’t necessarily think there was a correlation between the goggle situation and his crash.  I was thinking more that just trying to circulate for 3-4 laps without goggles was risky at best with limited upside.  Again, easy to say that afterwards but I feel that probably the large majority of riders would have stopped and got goggles; even Stewart on the broadcast was perplexed by what he did.

Is Dante Olivera in for Sexton?  He looked pretty smooth on the press day MXA raw vid.

first 5 minutes of the first of 22 motos... pretty fucking short sighted to not come in for goggles immediately.  I'm a big fan but geezus what a dumb decision.
