Matt Burkeen shares a story from his childhood about Seth Hammaker. I will forever be a fan of Seth after hearing this, solid person to the core. I'll also look at the guys racing now that took place in the bullying with a side eye.

Seth is a stand up guy. Last year I showed up at Pala on a Tuesday and realized my kids had rifled though my gear bag and stole my goggles. Seth was coming back from injury and there practicing with his mechanic. Semi embarrassed I walked over and asked if he had any spare goggles. Without a 2nd thought he went into his bag and gave me a pair. I know goggles aren’t a big deal to these guys but he was so nice and willing to help me out I was really impressed. He gained a super fan for life.

Side note my daughter has commandeered those goggles.
I'm convinced he's the nicest person on the planet at this point. Kudos to him and his parents!
He is an amazing young man, his character is top notch. Always polite, always with a smile. I have told the story before how my son met him at an aq, then runs into him again at Loretta's. Seth goes to the starting line of 50 Jr to cheer and watch my son. With out any prompting or ask. If you ever have a chance to just say hi, do it. You will talking with an amazing human.
Dude is a great rider and an even better person. While his riding future is great, he has Dean Wilson level marketing potential and likability. Things are going to work out fine for Seth. I would like to see him rough some guys up though in 2 weeks. Send a message that he can be nice off the track but not to be Ef'd with on the track.

Awesome story. More of a fan of him every day.
Nice story, thanks for sharing!
Also how he reacted in his post race interview yesterday, such a class act! I'm a Vialle fan and I woud have been absolutely fine with Seth getting that title aswell. From winning in 2021 the last time, having 3 really mediocre seasons and plagued with injury to competing for the title and for wins again this season was cool to see. Definitely rooting for him to get one next year.
He's riding with the hunter brothers from now on, right?
His interviews after what happened to him Saturday show how solid of a human he is. Few could have handled it with that much poise.
Came here to say the same thing. I just watched his interview with Big Lew and was surprised how well he handled the interview under the circumstances.
The Matt Burkeen story about Seth in the op is pretty cool too.
Well shit how can you not like him even more than you already did … I was so bummed for him, and mitch, yesterday, his season was so good! He looked so strong on the bike and track, his interviews were good… maybe he pulls an AC and comes out swinging outdoors and gets the championship!
Not sure how this kid held it together for those post race interviews ! ! Impressive and i'm very sure i don't have the tools for this. Class act.
Hard to think of someone more liked and respected by everyone in the sport than Seth. The guy is an absolute gem.
I almost stared a thread here to point this out. He had the most humble and poised interview in a time that had to be filled with anger and grief, he is obviously a very rooted young man.
Edited, now reading more comments, I am not the only one 🍻
Watching how appreciative he is around the PC crew on race-day…a very stressful race day…yet, he’s still just “Seth”. The kid, and his family…just really good people.
Never forget what he did for Matts brother! All while training, changing his own tires, doing all his own bike work, and sending it every day battling the likes of Marchbanks. The kids messing with Andrew were not crazy malicious, just teen aged boys being boys, but Seth was incredibly supportive of Andrew and it made his summer. Seth's character, work ethic, and all around good nature made me a fan for life!!
He is a great ambassador for the sport. I really wanted to see him and PC get that title. Still a great season for him. His riding has been amazing this year
He is a local kid for me, grew up 20 min from me. I don’t know him but am friends with people that do know him or are friends of the family and have never heard a bad thing about him or his family.
^^^^
“Family” - it’s the biggest influence.
Dunger Boy, on the other hand probably grew up in an environment that was a cross between a circus and an infomercial.
Poor guy got robbed of a title
Pit Row
7 years apart. Sticker for a hat, and jersey for jersey.
We bought a kx250 because of Seth. I hope someone from kawasaki reads that. Huge props to Mitch for sticking by Seth in those rough years. I have no doubt it was because Mitch knows who Seth truly is, plus is he a rad dude on a dirt scooter.
The silver lining to the gutting ending of his SX season is, I think he gained even more fans through his humility and emotional maturity than a trophy and #1 plate could've earned him. He's the people's champ now (and could very well be an AMA champ very soon).
Seth's parents should be keynote speakers at Lorretta Lynn's this year, and give advice to moto families on navigating the ultra competitve landscape that is amateur moto, while still successfully raising a good human being.
Great Idea. Have Darren Lawrence too. I've made some of my riders listen to his interviews.
He has 2 sisters that are awesome too. One is now a Podiatrist and the other has her Masters degree in tax as a CPA.
What a contrast between him and Deegan lol
Yes, I don't see Seth ever blowing money on lambo.
My Son is an Australian Pro. (Privateer pro). First year in MX2. He had a friend that knew Seth and crew and they all did a video call.
Seth didn't know my son or basically any of the young Aussies on the call. He mentioned doing a day outdoors leading up to finally and there were some jokingly smart Aussie comments. But the guy was just legit nice. Really could of cool guy'd everyone. But yeah just a random call.
My son was racing when Salt lake was happening and was gutted once he saw what happen.
But I don't think anyone has a bad thing to say about this kid. I hope he keeps it together for next year. Also he isn't bad outdoors. So I woudln't sleep on him for a win or two.
Just bumped into him today. The guy has to be # 1 in the “all time nicest, friendliest, most down to earth factory rider championship”
Not to derail but I was the new kid in school and my grandpa died and Kailub Russell was really cool to me about it and I’ll never forget that shit we were like 15
