I remember the broadcast showing a fan with an Emig jersey on and RC saying "Jeff, Is that your neighbor!"  I thought it was hilarious, but most of the time his digs are cringeworthy.. He's a serious ball buster but with an overly condescending tone.

That’s pretty funny not gonna lie 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I remember this as well. Just like in 1 of the other threads, I'm not here to make excuses for RC but I always gave him a pass on that. But my opinion is that when you grow up basically like a robot programmed to ride a motorcycle, you are likely going to lack some social skills. It happens a lot with athletes that were expected to be great from a young age. In contrast, I think back to how MC and Jeffro were not only great riders, for their era, but they also seemed like very cool, regular people. It's what made them rockstar status to most people my age (who grew up watching that era.) When RC came along, obviously he was a total badass on the bike but the sport seemed to lose some of that cool personality, with him being the face of the sport. And he always came off to me like that was his way of ribbing Jeff or sort of adding his personality, whereas Jeff is a lot more well-rounded in that area.

I think you are right on, but I just cannot understand why NBC/Feld have him on the broadcast.  He clearly lacks the skill and charisma which...

I think you are right on, but I just cannot understand why NBC/Feld have him on the broadcast.  He clearly lacks the skill and charisma which is not a dig on RC, just don't put him on camera offering zero value.  I could even look past the lack of social skills and vocabulary challenges if he actually analyzed the race.  That's why Stew is so good IMO.  He also has his own issues, but clearly is a student of the sport and his analysis is generally spot on.

Ricky offers "inside/outside" and "now that he got passed he can follow and learn"  and "OHHHHHH".

The real question is if we could choose between Ralph and Diffey, who is it?

I remember that too and it was so cringy. It's like he has little man syndrome where he feels the need to always prove himself. If you watch him, he's super cool with people who don't pose a threat to his ego, but if you criticize him or even make the wrong joke at his expense, he can't take it. For someone who should have nothing left to prove in this sport, he sure as hell is sensitive.

I can respect the hell out of his riding, experience and work ethic, but I just don't really like him as a person.

The funny thing is I used to cheer for RC against MC but now I have sooooo much more respect for MC than for RC. I don't put as much weight on wins and championships - how you conduct yourself during and after those wins (or during your losses). how many people you brought up with you and the positive or negative impact you had to the sport matters more to me now.

I rooted for rc for many years.
When I watched that video with DB at Arlington; how DB kept his composure and  didnt one-punch rc amazes me. What a diplomat!! Talk about taking the high road….I wouldn't have. 😎
It doesnt matter any backstory, it was the wrong time and thw wrong place. The group rc was giving a tour to must have been rolling their eyes.
rc looked like a kid who got his candy taken away from grandma and was sassing her like a lill brat.
Hubris combined with Napoleon Complex personality is awful.
I realize rc tries to balance his new profession and being a busy father to his children, but c’mon.
The sport was great before him and is awesome without him. Yes, he was great and deserves all the success he achieved.  Maybe he can learn from all this.
DB, keep your head up. Life is full of shitheads.  😈

Ricky lets his ego fly time after time.

To the people defending him all over pulp, saying he’s the nicest guy ever..(JT , Weege ) Just because he’s nice to you guys, doesn’t mean he’s nice to everyone. People can pick and choose who they want to be a dick to.

Any of you Karen’s listen to Fro on pulp last night? Sure seems like you may have been projecting your own issues on their relationship.

Emig seems to feel different. Doesn’t appear to be many people in DB’s corner. That’s not saying what he said wasn’t true but more the handling of it. Filthy pretty much nailed my thoughts on it.

Fro is low drag. I don't expect a tell-all. There seems to be a pattern amongst industry adjacent folks to not want to rock the boat and cross Ricky. Don't see why fro would be any different. RCs performance is objectively bad and the best we get is Matthes saying "he's improved over the years." That anecdote about FRO and his outdoors pit reporting BITD was cool tho.

I do think this is a watershed moment in that the industry bros have circled the wagons around the naked emperor(s), and in the long run they're only hurting their credibility. It's created a rift, but truth and freedom of expression are more important than being gaslit into consuming slop without protest.

One year shooting Washougal when Jeff was still on the broadcast he was walking the track on the fence line before practice and was stopping every few feet just to talk with people who wanted to talk with him. Most of these guys are just dudes who love bikes, some interact better than others.  We’re all tweaked a little differently, and what comes easy for some isn’t as easy for others.

These are the points you are making repeatedly; RC is a great commentator. All these people that criticize RC are incorrect. There are many, many people who state assuredly RC is a great commentator, flawless. And Blair's assessment of the office politics and egos he had to deal with should be standard operating procedure in any successful business. Besides that, the commentating at a sporting event viewed by millions, supported by multi-billion-dollar international companies, with the athletes prepared over a lifetime risking their lives is no big deal. These are your points. Disagreement with you labels somebody a Karen, I guess it's the 90s again, keep on truckin'. Nobody should possibly wish for better commentating for supercross, it is totally unreasonable. I would imagine you actually believe this, but people believing otherwise, just may have a point to the contrary you may want to at least consider.

It's just a bunch of people acting from self-interest. No one is going to shit on Ricky because they all want to keep their jobs. Behind closed doors they'll be crapping all over his broadcasting abilities - especially the pros like Weege. Meanwhile, Matthes will blow who he needs to blow and Gypsy will be under the desk that all the pros sit at in his studio giving it is all.

I agree, but Ralph did do a great job doing what he had done for years...been a "master of ceremonies" in the motorsport arena. He was there to hype things up, and...love him or not, he did that.

Ralph was great doing the World of Outlaws sprint car racing and Supercross both in my book. Yes there was the "James Reed", but he had a voice that showed his excitement, and it added to watching the races to me.

I remember watching Canadian Nationals for several years back in the earlier 2000's and they had a couple guys that kept you on the edge of your seat for the entire moto's just with their excitement. Also had good editing, and their Canadian accents!  To me, Ralph brought that kind of excitement too.

Jeff Emig just said on Pulp this week that Ricky is one of his best friends and there was no problem when Ricky took over. So OP is overly sensitive.

This thread is just one more example of how obsessed this forum is with broadcasters and literally makes shit up out of thin air just to criticize them..

I used an ambiguous verb tense. As I replied above to someone else, she never would have allow*ed* it. As in, during the era when the event occured and when should have been more likely to have direct influence.

When fox took Indy this year they replaced the Diff master with Will Buxton, of F1 fame.

Monster Energy is a title sponsor.

Ricky wears a green claw lapel pin.

Ricky says 'Monster Energy' a gratuitous amount.

What does he have to gain from saying anything different? Was he open and critical of anyone in a way that demonstrated his willingness to go GL-mode in speaking his mind or did he talk about the industry products and projects he's working on?

The industry is akin to a tribe. Rick great warrior. Rick slay many warrior. Rick good. Rick nice. You not like Rick? You not nice.

The industry doesn't have a reason to turn on RC, so being the tall poppy doesn't serve Jeffro when he's got endorsements and announcing deals and is working on documentaries where he needs access to people and media.

Everybody loves Michael schumacher and ayrton senna but they were dirty racers. Michael egregiously so. Ppl care less about actual character than image and accomplishments. It's easy to overlook. Steve Jobs same thing.
