More bad news on a track closure

Edited Date/Time 11/20/2024 8:26pm

I’m hearing that this weekend will be the last day that LACR will be open.
I’m sure that the increase in insurance is playing a big part in this decision, it’s a bummer to see another so cal track close down.

Don’t forget about the Dayton SX winner/expert witness who helped the plaintiffs.

Maybe DonM will remember the Taylor name now.

A good reminder to never ever buy anything from Rich Taylor and EKS brand.

I mean it isn't my favorite track around, but it's the one place I've ridden more than anywhere else and the only place open that isn't a 5 hour round trip. I was hoping to make it out this weekend but life is getting in the way.

I'll be burning my EKS Brand products in the fire pit Saturday night.

Rick Ryan. He was the "expert" witness in the lawsuit.

So many tracks closing lately. None of it having to do with sound either. It’s always lawsuits or lacking permits/environmental bs.

We are only seeing the start of the insurance challenges that our beloved sport could have in the not so distant future....

The insurance crisis that started in CA (fires) and FL (storms) due to claims and state governance is spilling into other states like NY and TX, etc. It is only a matter of time until it spills into MX, which is a real liability risk, and the cost to insure for our local tracks becomes prohibitively expensive.

I hope it doesnt happen and that I am wrong, but I am worried in 3-5 years local promoters / track owners could see rates skyrocket to absurd rates, or coverage just goes away altogether.

Our homeowners insurance here in California was through State Farm - had a policy with them since 1998, no claims ever. Premium was ~$7500. In January of 2023, State Farm dropped us - we were in an area they deemed a fire zone - and the only policy I could get was $23,500.  There was one option through the State last resort fund for $15k, but the coverage was garbage.

Yup, our insurance more then tripled overnight just last winter. It is happening.

You're not wrong unfortunately.

Insurance is gonna be the end of our sport, probably sooner than most of us realize.

Wow! 2 grand a month before you even turn the lights on. I wouldn’t doubt it goes up again next year too.

I went through the same thing here in CA. My insurance has doubled. I played hell even finding someone to insure me for a decent price. Between my property taxes and insurance, retirement here looks impossible or irresponsible.

What part of California are you in ?
Everyone I know has had a big increase in their home owners insurance, but your $7500 a year plan was pretty damn high before the price increase. Mine went up 25%, but I’m still under $2K a year. I have a few friends who were also cancelled and were faced with $10K+ for their homes. Lots are going without, since their homes are paid for. But that’s so damn risky, especially if you are truly in a bad fire zone area.
I can’t imagine having my home owners insurance cost me more than what I’m currently paying for my house payment, which included taxes and insurance.

They're still offering the track for rent on November 25th and 26th on their web page maybe it's just their normal shutdown for the holidays!

Been saying this for a long time, there need to be inherent danger laws for activities like dirt bike riding, like the inherent danger laws for horses in many states.

I see a world where track design will be governed by ins co’s.  Tables and Turns.  Limit takeoff angles to mellow everything out.  Basically VET only.  Hope I’m wrong.

Hell you can’t have a diving board or slide for your pool anymore - it’s happening to everyone in every faction of our lives.  They know exactly what they are doing.

Our local off road series’s are definitely feeling the pain.

Can’t upload the screenshot for some reason but LACR just confirmed it.

It’s always nice to have confirmation, but I would not have taken the time to post this, if there was any possibility of it not being true.
It’s a big bummer, I hate seeing this happen again…
