Ever since deegans infamous spinning crash at hangtown it seemed like he crashed at least once per race for the rest of the season, so I went and looked to make sure. Other than unadilla, from the second round all the way to the last round he crashed at least once per race. That honestly makes it even more impressive how bad he spanked everyone, but it does show a part of his game that he needs to work on going forward. Do you guys think this was just a regular amount of crashing for this point in his career or do u think that this is a pattern that he needs to get under control? I was actually surprised how many times he washed the front out because nobody was really ever saying that he was doing it a lot. I went back through all the highlights to write down every crash that happened this year, here they are:
Fox raceway -No crash.
Hangtown -moto 2 has the infamous 720 degree spinning crash on the big downhill while leading
Thunder valley -moto 1 early on the race he washes out the front end on an uphill right hander while leading
Southwick -moto 2 washes the front in the downhill right hander and the bike flips on top of him, vialle goes off track to get around him.
High point -moto 2 has a decent get off on the first lap losing it going into a left hander.
Red bud - moto 2 has the MAJOR crash going over the bars when he lands on a downed rider.
Washougal -dabs foot and falls over on a flat left hander in moto 1 while in 2nd place behind tom
Spring creek -moto 1 while leading first lap he washes the front in a flat right hander. Moto 2 deegan connects with hymas on the start and crashes in the first turn causing an absolutely enormous pile up.
Unadilla- no crash
Budds creek -moto 1 appears to dab his foot and washes the front while leading at bottom of down hill right hander.
Ironman -tipped over twice washing the front first moto in 2 different corners while buried suuper deep in the back.
-When its your year its your year and this definitely was his year, but he did seem to crash a lot of times.
Interesting analyses. I was thinking about this after the race yesterday. It felt to me his crashes turned more to tip overs as the season went on. Your right, pretty impressive how for the most part it didn't really affect his results.
He’s young and figuring it out.
He sure as heck made the 250 racing exciting even with clinching early.
250 class is deep!
He's so exciting to watch. Such a difference between him and the measured precision of Chase and Jett. Something about his riding you just see he determination and that he won't be denied. Believe the Hype
I really enjoyed watching him this year

He’s very lucky that none of those incidents resulted in an injury, also that the rest of the top contenders were so inconsistent.
But then on the other hand, people here, not very long ago, were constantly bagging Sexton for his regular crashes…….
You forgot the big one in moto 2 at Redbud when he went over the bars after the big table top hitting the downed riders bike
Oh boy that could have been the season. Wasn't his fault but still. Some riders are just built different and dont break every time they go down
@14:08
Now his next podium interview he’ll say “they say I crash a lot so I had to prove I’m still the best guy.”
Sexton crashes too much, and he still does.
Deegan was fun to watch on track this MX season, off track terrible. But, I agree he did crash a lot and in violent ways many times. I hope he can begin to get past the early career crashes because that was honestly what got him for SX this last season. You can’t crash in SX like you can in MX and rely on speed, the race is just too short most of the time.
Anyway, hope he cleans it up as I want to see him succeed and get another top tier guy in 450.
Great point about sx. Also if you crash that much in sx, there's a good chance you aren't walking away from all of them
Youre right. Fixed. I went through each races highlights and they didnt put it in there for whatever reason, that was a major one!
Buehler said it best, Deegan is built different. Everytime I watch him ride, he looks strong as hell on the bike. He's got some muscle on his body that helps him bounce vs dig in(skinny guys seem to dart into the ground)
His helicopter spin crash was impressive, he was already trying to get back to his bIke before he was done crashing.
Funny, "Sexton crashes too much and still does." Well lets see, he crashed more than Tomac in the 2023 SX season, yet Tomac suffers a torn achilles, and Sexton wins the championship.
Sexton is supposedly crashing too much in the 2024 outdoor season, yet, Jett gets hurt during practice, and Chase wins the championship. Whatever and however Sexton is crashing too much, it seems to be a good formula for cashing checks of over $1 million each time!!
I guess the same winning formula is working for Deegan
Chase and Deegs are pushing it to the limit. Crashing is inevitable.
When you're young and trying to find your personal "limits"...you will throw it away occasionally when you cross the line. Haiden is wicked fast, but with that speed comes a price. Just ask Jett.

If you do not crash every now and then you are not trying hard enough - Gary Bailey
It definitely shows he isn’t ready for a 450.
HD reminds me of RC4 during his first few years. Just bouncing off the ground and running back to his bike like nothing happened.
Now we see if HD has the same luck at staying healthy(ish) over the next 8-10 years, here’s hoping for the best for him!
It is wild to see how many BIG crashes Deegan has had and doesn’t get hurt. You gotta give it to him, he knows HOW to crash.
And then the guy runs back to the bike and rides harder than he did before he crashed. That’s grit. Core. Can’t teach that shit. Dude wanted it. How many people ride like that after crashes like that? I know we all have been there, and after the crash your ears are ringing because you scared the shit out of yourself thinking how you could have died/gotten seriously injured.
Excited to see him ride SMX and SX
Interesting, I don’t think the 250 class was deep at all.
Vialle - hasnt showed his mxgp speed in the states yet
Kitchen - I don’t think he had ever won an overall before 2024
Hymas - don’t think anyone would have guessed he was a front runner
I think Vialle and Shimoda are the only people in the class that had won prior to this year
I wonder how much of his "crashing" ability is from riding bmx and getting comfortable bailing from a bike.
I will add that I think time on the trampoline helped also, especially with spotting the landing and bmx combined all of that and like you said, helped him on learning to bail off bikes.
So he was a crasher on a BMX bike too?
I know you're trying to be funny but fucking around at Woodward on a bicycle definitely helps someone get comfortable crashing. I know it's hard to get this through someone with a thick skull like yourself but being good at crashing will prevent a lot of injuries in the long run over a career...
LMAO, you with the neanderthal tactics and I have a think skull. Considering I have been doing this for 45+ years what are the odds I figured out how to crash? More importantly figuring out how not to crash is even better.
Post a reply to: Deegan had a lot of crashes this year?
