If those prices are right, then the real ripoff happened between 1970 and 1980.

It’ll be a drop in the bucket when you see the 2020-2030 someday

How about the 25 canopies that line the fence so you can't even stand at the bottom to watch. Signs clearly say no tents past a certain point. Hell one guy was cooking on a charcoal grill under his canopy right next to the track lol

Not sure where you stand and can’t see due to canopies but they never got in my way. I mostly stood in the middle of the track and can see everything.

The canopies are great because they enable older people and possibly people with disabilities to be able to come and enjoy the national that otherwise couldn’t.

Not everyone is young and can run around and stand in the hot sun for 8+ hours straight.

If you can get down to that area you're neither too old or disabled, it's a steep walk down. Im not saying you can't see from other areas but if you're standing down on the bottom behind them you can't see anything and weird to stand under someone else's canopy on the fence.

The hill was great viewing and other areas were fine.

exact same thing in millville this year. they need to ban those damn things. nothing like 2 bros sitting underneath a 10x10 canopy when its overcast out taking up a bunch of real estate and blocking a bunch of peoples views while watching the latest episode of the deegashians on their phones instead of watching the race

There was a group near the finish line that put up caution tape all around their canopy to the fence so nobody could even stand next to it. Two people in there at any given time taking up the space of 15.

500 for a weekend for 3-4 people at the races doesn’t sound too bad. 🤷🏼‍♂️

A healthy industry drives up prices.

Yea but these prices aren’t outrageous at all. OP is comparing going to races in the mid 90’s obviously the dollar amount was less then.

It’s no surprise all the curmudgeons are in here yourself, magoo, OP. Just old men yelling at clouds.

I was a tough negotiator. A neighbor would call the house hey can Tone come ovr & help us bail hay or cut , take there hay , etc. the hail mow is 140 a day because it’s brutally hot, no air moving, dusty, hv to wear a long sleeve flannel shirt because the hay tears up your inner forearms.  Field on the wagon 110, unld wagon 110 per day etc. or pay by the bail. 1 farmers Hot wife made a big home made meal as my payment . I said a meal is always a part of the deal. I,ll take 20 bails as my payment.  Technically I was a hay broker . Stroking the monkey here. I just told them I,m not pallet jacking the ld off. Sorry but I,ve always been this way. You pay me for work like being inside a 200 degree trl. Prison next to a prison hereIMG 0686 2.jpeg?VersionId=eUkMKbACiEXNyo3sJtRybJ0Hn

Go to an MLB or an NFL game and see how much you spend. Better yet go to a concert with decent seats.

I took my 5 year old to High Point this year. Packed a lunch, drinks, and some chairs. Bought tickets and pit passes for us and don't even remember what it cost. It was hot as heck and we had to fight canopies and and train horns everywhere. Long lines to use the bathroom. Walked a mile to park and took forever to get out of the place.

On the way home, my little boy said "Dad, that was awesome! Can we go back next year?"

Live your life boys...

Supply and demand...when 80% of those that can't afford to go to the races figure out they shouldn't be paying as much as they to go to the races maybe prices will drop. Until then...

Same thing with vehicles. I bought a 2013 F-150 XLT pickup for right around $30,000 at the end of 2013, I got it for right around list price, maybe $1,000 off. There is no way a F-150 XLT should list for $58-65,000. Inflation calculator says it should be around $40,500 but when idiots keep buying new vehicles (that most can't even afford) the manufacturer's are going to raise prices or hold them.

At least at a ball game I get a comfortable seat, some shade, quality restrooms, and a decent bar/food selection. It’s mind bending to see how much people will spend to go stand in the dirt and fry themselves in the sun.

hand up as i've never sat in a stadium seat that was comfy...  it's pretty simple if its too expensive people wont go, this is a big problem for baseball.  You live in Florida hows the attendance at Rays or Marlins games?  Less then 50% capacity I'd bet unless a big market team is in town..  seems like plenty of people are going to moto races though...

The whole summer practically Harley Davidson in Milwaukee has a anniversary. People from all ovr the world go there to take the action in. Of old school getting wild , even the women. Hot leg, wet t shirt contest, a ton of flashing. Etc. best entertainers performing, bar hopping just all out wild stuff. Not a family event but the biggest motorcycle event in the world by far. My Ukraine bosses hot wife was all excited to go and check it out from Chicago.  People hv no idea how big these events r. And some stuff is free.  Mx is missing out on billions of dollars by marketing there sport wrong.  There is no tradition so why not change it from a family marketed sport, which is a joke. To a adult level sport a place to get wild. Instead of gauging a micro 50 rider & his family. .

Totally not Bob Hannah.

100%! Hannah worked his ass off from an early age to support his own racing career. HD has had everything possible waiting for him as he grew up. The guy is fast for sure, total respect for his speed, but the HD story is full silver spoon childhood. Hannah was very different.

When I read the OP…this is what I was thinking.

And beyond that, from Concerts (recently paid $575 for 2 tickets/ON SALE thru AmEx Early Access pkg)  to NFL to MotoGP at COTA($459 - $2899 plus fees PER PERSON) to “typical family entertainment” like the movies, etc….and never-mind a Day Pass at Disney ($184 1 Adult/Saturday ticket plus parking)…drove thru Yosemite on my KLR just passing thru on Hwy 120: $30…so, when I take all of that into consideration?

$515 for 2 Adults, 1 Child, Admission, Pit Passes, Parking and Camping…for the entire weekend? I call it inexpensive in 2024.

Another thing…in comparison to DV’s post…

When I went to get tickets at Anaheim Stadium back in January…for a group of last minute friends and family, I noted that it was SOOOOOO much cheaper than a recent hockey game I’d taken some friends to. But, there was one RIDICULOUS THING that occurred…the Anaheim Box Office DOES NOT ACCEPT CASH! I stayed there for about 1/2 hour buying tix for some of our fellow motoheads with my card & they’d just give me cash. Hell. I got a ton of miles on my United Card that day! Cash is suppose to be King! 🤣

In dollar amount maybe but 138 is more then double the 65 in 1970. 2010 to 2020 is only a 25% more.

Hopefully your not a math or economics teacher.

The level of what is called  bathrooms, how manicured the entire tracks are, Having enough cell signal at a race to even be able to get caught live streaming. The level of crowd control now VS then.  Take a look at any national from the 80s or 90's and You can see that a lot more money gets spent on the track and facility these days than back then.

I wish that the cost to go see a race in person were not so high.   I think about the insane ticket prices I have heard about for Taylor Swift concerts, and I wonder if growing the sport is really a good idea.  It still is one of the most affordable forms of motorsport racing to do. And comparing ticket prices to other world class motorsports , MX is still on the lower end a lot of the time.  Take away  the camping fees and VIP stuff. Basic Sat only adult ticket is $60 and 4-11 kid is $30.

In the 2000's  they stopped allowing camping at  a lot of Nationals . There were times the National Guard had to be called in .  I've seen stuff happen  and heard some crazy stories of what happened in the past. I'm going to guess that the insurance is much higher now for camping .  And now days if and when that crazy stuff goes down, it shows up online and insurance adjustors can see what they are getting into.

I hope that it never gets up to Nascar and Swifty level costs.

But I can see Chase ride at Sunset Ridge or Mendota tracks for 10 bucks at the gate .  And here him interviewed by a guy that holds races every week at Mendota at least . Chase saying I 1st raced here on a 50 or 85 my dad sister and I in a pu truck , more genuine than a natl interview by a contacted person that is there to further there career. Both tracks hv pro ams in September. I,m sure Chase will b there like usual unless he’s contracted to race somewhere.

WTF?😆
