Humidity from the track being watered? That's a new one for me
It makes some people feel better to be a bigger victim of circumstances than others. Some sort of serotonin hit or something.
"I totally suffer more than you do!"
Someone should tell them to irrigate with water not Brawndo. Yes, the stuff from the toilet.
Sand is the new wood chips.

I agree. Some of the best recent races at Hangtown are when they didn't try to rip it deep. Let it be choppy and tricky and fast.
The track is on the edge of the central valley, and this is the start of the dry season in California. Probably won't rain again until late September/October. 6 weeks ago all of that grass would have been bright green, and just a few miles up the road it starts getting wooded, with thick pine forests only 20 or 30 miles east. Its not a desert, the area actually gets 25 inches of rain a year with many lakes and rivers nearby, and just a bit further east of the track they get 40 to 50 inches a year as you get further up into the foothills...
People feel this way about Hangtown because we used to go Glen Helen and nothing really tops it in California.
Don't let Rich Taylor near that place!!!!
Rice hulls
Beats the poop chips.
Is that was is considered sexy these days?
Those pictures gave me heatstroke.
Looks like the surface of Mars with a track dozed in.
I wish they would bring back the half pipe thing they did by the finish line....that thing was cool!
Have you rode there? It holds no moisture without adding sand.
It's crazy to me how different local guys can have such different perspectives and opinions on tracks! To me Livermore (Club Moto) has some of the worst "dirt" in the area. Like weird clay with 30% wood chips thrown in, develops a couple ruts and if you go outside those, you're screwed.
If you're talking E Street in Marysville, I can get on board, but Riverfront would turn into a blue groove and dusty rutted nightmare on Golden State days.
Oatfield had the best dirt but nowhere near big enough for a legit national.
I've been around long enough to have raced at the old stadium track at Sacramento Raceway, so maybe I just aged myself compared to you guys!
And to the dude who thinks it's crazy to talk about added humidity from watering a track, I guess you've never experienced the Hangtown track down in that bowl on a hot summer day. It definitely changes the environment.
I remember the stadium at sac raceway by the start of the drag strip! I also remember the hangtown mudder. And unfortunately, I remember the all the hot effing days after that and don't feel the need to go there on race day anymore. If there's ever unsettled weather in the forecast, that's when I'll go again.
Track looks sweet and 100x better than Pala but being from the Midwest always amazed with 0 green space on these tracks out west
Pit Row
on a seriouse note, anxious to see how the track races this weekend.

just. couldn't. resist.

As an east coaster who now lives in Cali, I agree. Hangtown is not a visually appealing facility. It’s for sure a national caliber track, but the visuals aren’t great.
The issue is just that all California tracks are in the ugly high dez or valley.
A national at Mammoth would be a cool event. I think the issue there though is Semi-hauler parking though.
Hell yeah! I could roll the shit outa those jumps!!!
Have a National race on Easter and it’s all green and wet.
It's cool to see some pretty big track changes for this year that should hopefully help with more passing opportunities.
But.. It’s what tracks want!
Same, man! I was planning on taking my son's to the race this year to see Tomac and Jett in person, but Tomac being out just made me pass. These days the coverage is just good enough to not go.
I was there for the 91 mudder also, what a day.
Watching the Vohland brothers on that stadium track was something I'll never forget. First time I ever saw someone blitz whoops...mind blowing experience.
Back to the layout this year, I see a lot of potential there, but no matter what the second motos are going to be brutal with all that sand added.
Being a Tomac fan, were you there when the 243 won his first pro race? I was big into photography back then and he made that day A LOT of fun, back when the track ran literally right up to the fence on the far right side going up the hill...
that’s going to end up being a slot car race should make for fantastic racing 🙄
After riding practice today here are a few takeaways:
1. I suck
2. There's a lot of sand, definitely more than years past but it will get mixed in a bit throughout the amateur racing tomorrow. The sand isn't everywhere though and there will still be some hardpacked sections, so the variety might make for some interesting tire choices.
3. The Fly triple is BIG, I don't know how big exactly but I was in 4th on my YZ250 giving it about all it had to get over it. It's built well though, when you get over the size it's a super fun jump but damn was it scary the first time haha.
4. There are actually some kind of old school feeling sections to the track, most notably in the sandier sections after the first corner and coming down the first hill. They built some really large rolling features in those areas that aren't really jumps, just kind of big sandy mounds.
5. I'm very curious to see what the pro do through the uphill rollers. I never found a good rhythm through them today with the limited track time we had so I want to see how they tackle it, they're all kind of oddly sized and spaced
6. Did I mention that I was reminded just how bad I suck at this riding thing?
Overall I love the track, this actually feels like a pro level track that's very challenging to ride and tests you in a lot of different ways. If our local tracks weren't glorified vet freeways it probably wouldn't seem so crazy but it was really refreshing and fun to ride something that made you think about how you approach it, looking forward to the races tomorrow.
