It was impressive although I could not for the life of me see what he was pointing out was happening. The footage didn’t make me go ‘oh yeah wow I didn’t notice that’ instead I didn’t notice anything. Totally on the footage not the analysis.
same with Jett jump thing where that shower footage where he didn’t get over the top and bounced down the landing, yet talked about accelerating down the backside. Again the footage didn’t properly show the analysis.
I also think Weege has a big part in Stew’s ever growing broadcasting skills. He picks up the pieces if Stew mispronounces things and will also ask him questions about the analysis he is giving. At one point Stew was saying Chase going down was an advantage and then Weege was like “explain that, why is it an advantage” and Stew goes onto talking about the chasing the carrot theory. Really hope Feld considers having these two in the booth for SX moving forward.
Also shout out to AC during RDL. So cool to hear the back and forth between him and Stew analyzing the rider’s techniques.
Best post on vital, hands down.
And absolutely 1000% correct.
I like how he handles having to comment on Malcolm too. Sometimes Weege makes mention of him and throws it to James and he just doesn’t over hype him or anything, in fact it’s probably the opposite. Must be hard having that personal interest in the race but remain impartial.
Pretty sure he also said if his brother was on a winning streak he would have to end it too! Haha

In Supercross this year there was a moment when they showed Malcom when he just crashed and James said "Yeah ran out of talent right there". Shit cracked me up.
Improvement over RC for sure IMO..….I do think JS7 offers some good insight although sometimes it could be articulated better. Was he correct in his claim of KtM”s rear suspension not working good compared to the Honda?
I like that when the color guy throws something dumb to him, he calls it out and speaks the truth. RC finds some dumb way to agree and then sticks with that take for years as a comfort blanket.
Authenticity makes a big difference.
To your point, stew is better.
Everything about Moto is better when James is involved. Great to see this aspect of things
Yep, and RC is the least authentic and cannot seem to actually analyze the race. Stew doesn't get wrapped up in brands he is involved in either.....like when RC brings up Triumph or riders that his Mom works with etc.
Just better. Thanks Stew.
I like Stewart in the booth, but I wish that he’d stop trying to make the silly plays on nicknames and stuff like that. It usually comes out wrong and causes an awkward pause.
Hopefully Stewart doesn’t listen to producers who want him to change up his style the way that RC has. I definitely feel that RC’s commentary has declined as he’s tried to become more ‘professional’.
JS7 has an extremely unique way of expressing his own viewpoint. He also has a Great attention to detail of the small things from his racing experience and personal bike set up.
James simply is not a cookie cutter announcer.
James is by far the best in the booth to date. He should be doing this full time now for both SX and MX.
Thank god im not the only one to think that.
It was fan fukn tastic! Colour and analysis done correctly! Very equivalent of the Weege and GL days of comfort calling the races where they could have a side bet working different words into the broadcast. For example “crown moulding”.
I Disagree with you 1000% on his bubbly comments.
His not pre recorded / practiced comments bring freshness and humor to the show.
I'm gonna go with Daniel Blair as my #1 pick.
Levi is putting on his big boy pants, so if you can't handle the heat you better get out of the Kitchen - would be a good one.
Pit Row
And to add to Stew talking about Chase's rear end looking "dead", it reminded me of RV in an interview a few years ago talking about him and Roczen swapping bikes during the week and he almost looped out off an on off because he wasn't used to how dead the rear end was compared to his Kawi.
His observations and lack of ego are fantastic.
His natural funny is usually pretty good, but his “send it” funny can be a little cringe. He’s better when he doesn’t try to be entertaining.
I think RC is just as knowledgeable, but his lack of vocabulary and articulation reveals itself way more often than it does with James.
Think that's a stretch. His legacy speaks for it's self. Will say thought it was untouchable but if a certain someone stays healthy it may all be rewritten? Ten straight outdoor titles is just insane!
Stew is a fantastic analyst.
RC being an ambassador (branded whore) takes priority over all else. The claw pin on a suit live on NBC? It’s cheesedick and likely the only reason he still holds the analyst position. We both know it’s not due to his analytics.
Even the intro graphic from the MotoGP thread has M ambassador ahead of 15 time motocross champ.
It’s gross. I feel bad for the dude.
You hit the nail on the head.
I agree, the broadcast was great this weekend. I think there was a time in the first 250 moto where there was a small pause in broadcasting and all you could hear were the bikes...let's do that more. Can I get an entire lap without any commentary? Just race noises? NASCAR did that with the "Volume Cranked" portion were they just played the race with engine sounds. I want that lol
Most likely the best post race analysis on the internet.
James is far from perfect for a network broadcast announcer.
BUT! He is hands down my favorite person to listen to in the booth, followed by Blair. James is funny, has a tremendous technical perspective about riding and he brings something to the broadcast other than just regurgitating facts we already know. I really enjoy James in the booth.
