I remember reading something about fuel tanks in some form of auto racing having a specified maximum capacity. Some enterprising fellow used some large diameter hose from the fill port and wound it around and around before connecting it to the tank, resulting in it being able to hold a few extra gallons of fuel at refill.

Once they found it at tech inspection they couldn't penalize him because he hadn't violated any rules... but they rewrote the rule ASAP. Grinning

Could be. But I'd still like to see more specific language in their rule book to eliminate as much subjectivity as possible. Nothing more frustrating than arguing your innocence regarding a rule using an ambiguous word like "close" (nearby) or some other fuzzy language.

But hey, it's the AMA, I'm just kidding myself if I think that would ever happen willingly on their part. Pinch

Look at what happens in F1, the FIM try to nail down everything with the rules, teams adhere to the letter of the rules, but creatively interpret the meaning.

The larger diameter hose was in NASCAR, another racing series that has seen a lot of creative rule interpretation, and blatant cheating.

Its hilarious on its own, that this is the highest level of the sport and there is no rule forcing team members to leave the start area xy seconds before the gatedrop.

Not only is it dangerous and a bad look, it might also affect riders next to the situation.

I  put a thumbs up becuase of the last sentence, not just because he had his jersey off but because his pants were un done. There’s little kids there, and sponsors probably aren’t very happy, especially with goggle grabber, they didn’t get much representation other than when he was racing.

RC talks about it. He spoke to AMA's Mike Pelletier. 43:15 mark.

Hmm, I would have thought congratulations would be in order. He did a fine job. Not the biggest Jett fan, but you have to tip your hat to him. He is good, even  if people don't like him.

Exactly! They get all bent out of shape about people not liking him when in reality it’s their fault that people aren’t fans of him. They remind of Stew fans… Laughing

I heard they found out he had basket balls in his tank to take up space during tech where they measure how much fuel the tank holds along with a few feet extra fuel hose that was larger diameter.

When called out he was so mad he took off and drove his car back to his shop across town. The gas tank was still sitting a the tech inspection shop haha.

Last year at the AMA national opener, I was the signal pass mechanic for my 250 rider at the gate, and Ryder D was next to us, and 3 Pro Circuit mechanics were getting his start device set and cleaning his gate.

I have never done a Supercross race, but in AMA Motocross a team is only issued 2 mechanic's passes per rider at least that's what they do for us.

Obviously the PC guys were all helping each other's riders on the gate, but Im not sure what the rule book says about it.

What is a signal pass mechanic? First time hearing that term.

None of this would even be talked about if they had the tyre cover off 30 seconds earlier.

No1 would have cared that 2 guys helped pull the cover off while on the starting grate.

Takes a pass from qualifying to get into the mechanics area.

I was afraid one of the 2 trying to remove the tire warmer were going to get sucked in and loose a body part

I don’t think DMG got any part of supercross when they purchased AMA pro racing.

...for the main motos, only one mechanic can be in the mechanic's area per rider, its a special sticker or wrist band you get.

If you are a hard card guy I don't think they care too much because I saw a lot of Honda and PC guys without them.

But since we are privateer cockroaches the rules apply to us but not to Honda I think...

The whole thing was just stupid on Honda's part. Give them a fine and be done with it.

Give them a fine for what? They didn't break any rules.

RC and RV cleared this up in their podcast.

RC spoke to the AMA and they said there was no infraction as there was "no repair" being undertaken...the AMA also spoke to others teams and nobody gave a shit about it.

Fining them for the snaps on a tire cover sticking seems a bit harsh.

The AMA should make Jett race the first lap of the main this weekend with the tire cover on to make it a fair race for everyone else in the main. Go one lap, pull into the mechanics area, remove cover, then see if he can pass everyone

I would imagine feld is watching Jett’s every move. Expect a penalty soon for a small or imagined infraction. They need to tighten these points back up - quick!

The boys are going to have to rough up the kid or there will be no stopping him. Tomac may up his game and find the speed to run with him but that won't make up 16 points.

The GP’s have it right and no arguments because nobody is allowed on the starting grid, period. They can assist to a point then have to leave, period, end of story

How come I feel if you had given a similar example before this happened….or if it had been say…Chase instead of Jett…that many vitards would have the opposite opinions.
