Do you know how many hours and what part?

Overall, I have heard good things. I think Keefer had talked about some bottom end issues, but nothing confirmed issue.

Sorry I don't know the full details but the 4 450s I know of at least one rod that ended up cracking the case and 2 heads that were destroyed. Plus 2 guys had electrical issues. One shutting his bike off mid moto which is wild. All these guys are A/B riders who take care of their stuff. As for the 250s I just know a guy at a training facility and he says it's a common occurrence to see them lock up. That being said those kids probably might be tapping into that rev limiter a bit.

A mate of mine had the rod go through the cases at 60 hours on his 23 450. Vet A rider. He's gone to kawi now.

I'm hanging onto my 21 for a bit longer because of these stories

Had a rod break at 36 hrs on my 21 YZ 450 and I am in my 60s. 21 had a rod problem. They put the FX rod in the 22 but heard of problems with them as well.

What is the most comfortable seat for this bike? I'm old and the acceleration bumps coming out of corners hurt my prostate so bad I stand up when I need to be resting. All I have found so far is the Guts wide seat foam. Whatever it costs I don't care this crappy seat has shortened my life span I know. Worst seat ever on a dirtbike.

Yes the Guts wide seat foam is a game changer for this bike.  Just get it already and your butt will thank you.

Also get a bump and buy the complete seat it’s so much better than wresting it yourself. Use the pulp code and it’s much more affordable.

Guts doesn't have the seat bases yet, you can mail them your base and they will install the stuff for free and not charge return shipping which was cool. I'll just do my own but I am stuck on getting the bump or not, it's 30 dollars more for bump foam and 30 dollars more for a bump seat cover. The bike is too tall for me already but I was going to go 14 mm taller foam and choose soft foam. I was thinking more softer foam could be better? Does anyone have a picture of a GUTS seat with a bump on it? I am not sure I need that. What if the bump is in the wrong place for my hiney? That would suck.

Apologies if this has been asked/answered before, but I just installed a full FMF system (spark arrester removed) to my '24 YZ450 and curious if anyone has any recommended Yamaha Power Tuner maps for that system. Only other variable i've installed is the Twin Air Powerflow. Currently running one of the Keefer Maps, but feel like it could use some more fine tuning with the pipe.

Thanks

Those mods lean it out, so you just need to tinker with the fuel settings at throttle position. More people should play with that thing and understand it makes a pretty good difference(until a vortex or GET)

Trust me on this one. I sat on a 24 YZ450 today after I posted that just for shits and giggles and they aren't even in the same zip code. Laughing

Man that’s bad! My boys were bruised and swollen 2 weekends ago from the Yamaha seat after OJ’ing a tabletop at Honolulu by about 15 feet on my dad’s 24. Seat felt like a 2x4 when I came down Laughing

I feel for you if the Beta is as bad as you say it is, lol!

Can anyone confirm the stock handlebar bend soecs the 23/24 yz450f ? (BR9-26111-20-00)

I was told same as protaper sx race bend.  I can't find any sx race bends, in stock, anywhere.  But the stock bars are available through rocky mtn. Might go that route.

IMG 8728 1.jpeg?VersionId=5gdL.q3kmdYcqyheI’ll start off with I love this thread and there has been a ton of useful information to set these bikes up. I’ve always been a fan of the factory edition bikes so I built my own Yamaha version. I’ve tried a lot of parts suggested from this thread like the Enzo suspension, nuaxle, and I’ve tried a few of my own that no one seems to talk as much about like Neken sfs triple clamps and works chassis lab motor mounts. All I have to say is wow this bike is amazing now. It’s so plush and easy to ride. It’s still a little firm on chop and braking bumps but I’m assuming that’s just me being out a shape and the slightly firmer chassis compared to some of the older 450’s like the 2012 rmz 450 I used to own. The Neken sfs clamps took away almost all the vibration in the handle bars and take away so much of the harshness of hard landings and chop. Highly underrated product in my opinion. Thanks for all the help boys couldn’t have done it with all of you!

Totally agree, the NEKEN SFS clamps are a crazy good mod. I call them "A-kit makers!"

I need another set - where's the best place to get them for a good price these days?

I ordered mine from BUD racing. My buddy is also trying to track down a set and is having a hard time finding a set. They appear to be back ordered everywhere.

Did you notice any other increases in rigidity feel with the clamps in the steering department? Ive always had an eye on those sfs clamps but haven't gotten to ride them. On the yam i kept my clamps stock because i feared making it more rigid but on my next one i plan to do some things to soften it a little overall.

At this point I’ve only put 4 rides on them. I can’t tell for sure if they overall make the bike stiffer, to me they make the bike feel softer on big hits. There has been a few times I sent it a wee bit too much and flat landed by a mile. The impact felt in bars was about 1/2 of what it should’ve been. I’ve been running them at about 80psi and haven’t played with the pressure bc it like it so much more over the stock set up.

I had them on my 23 ktm 300sx and they definitely help on harsh landings and chop.    I think I ended up at about 70psi so I would get a good bit of movement out of them.    I only had the top clamp.

I believe the only set of triple clamps that are said to be less rigid overall are the luxons.   I have a set of the gen 3 pro's on the 23mm off set currently.   Haven't tried 24.   They are a very large improvement.

I rode for the first time this weekend on my new guts wide seat foam with there winged seat cover and that is any favorite upgrade over everything I have done.   Wow I didn't realize how much I hated that stock seat.   Uncomfortable and I couldn't squeeze the bike at all.    Made a much bigger difference then I would have imagined.

Have about 10 hours now on my Enzo setup and at first felt pretty stuff but is very confidence inspiring.   Very happy.

Was thinking I made the wrong choice switching from kawi but am glad I did.

I’d also recommend the Mako360 bar mounts if you can’t get a hold of the Neken SFS.

Work great and make a noticeable difference in feel through the hands, and fatigue. There’s a reason so many ISDE guys run them and you don’t notice them riding MX like some other solutions.

I tried those Mako360 bar mounts and for me there was wayyy too much movement.  Maybe for off-road they could be better but jumps and ruts were The bars feel like they are loose.

In my opinion, I thought it was just a band aid fix. Personally I’d get the bike suspension working better or more compliant bar before using that.

Anyone tried the TD Vortex gear specific mapping ? I’m struggling with 3rd gear.
I have a FMF muffler , Slater Skin airbox cover and went up a tooth.  The airbox cover helped the most but it’s so damn loud.

Anyone running a 51t?

also what maps are preloaded on the bike ?

I’ve been guilty about not messing with the maps and assumed the hard hitting map was stock.

I just went back to a 49t from a 51t. I liked the 51 as it did help me get into 3rd a little quicker, but I ultimately still ran 2nd more than I thought I should be. I have been all over the place with this bike, but ultimately have ended up back on pretty much stock settings. I ended up going back to a baseline with forks, shock, and gearing, and I run a custom map where traction control slider is all the way up, and fuel and ignition slider is all the way down. I run about 103mm sag and run the forks up 3mm. That’s the sweet spot for me on my local track

I bought the rekluse clutch pack for my 24 yz450, has anyone done a clutch yet?  The instructions say nothing about plates being different when installing them,  I put them in and now the clutch won’t engage it just dies when I kick it in gear.  Anyone shed light on this?

Read this thread.  Possibly same/similar issue.

Long story short - make sure you didn't accidentally leave an extra plate in there stuck either on the inside to the basket or on the outside to the pressure plate.

Agreed on suspension first. For the Mako’s I think you have to play with the elastomers for sure. The middle/soft ones move A LOT.

And agreed it’s different off road as 2-3 hour long races take a took.

I tried gear based mapping and I think @CarlinoJoeVideo did too.

I think it’s awesome to be able to map per gear and the differences between gears can be pretty noticeable.  You only get that one map though, not 10, so you need to be sure you’re really comfortable with it.

if you’re somewhere down in Southern California and contest with twisted development, I think gear based mapping would be incredible. If you’re somewhere else, and you write a bunch of different terrain and tracks, I personally feel like having the tent map option is better.

With the gear-based mapping I felt like third was more usable, and all the gears pulled further. That sort of the case with several of the other maps that are included in the 10 from twisted development as well. One thing I really noticed on the gear mapping was the second felt like it pulled incredibly far and didn’t have very much engine breaking. It might be a case where you can end up using second everywhere, even though you think you wanna be in third, with that type of map.

I’ve got my TD vortex for sale right now if you wanted to try one out.

Thanks, it looks like the plates are different thicknesses, not sure why rekluse wouldn’t mention this in the instructions.

Maiden voyage yesterday coming off a kx450f and KTM350sxf (I still have those bikes…..).  I had a 2020 yz450f for a bit and had no complaints.   I always told myself that if Yamaha came out with a more nimble chassis then that would be the bike.   Anyways…..I loved the bike.   It’s so good off the showroom floor with a few minor suspension changes.   Chassis is great and the layout is perfect.   I’m pretty stoked!!

Does anyone know the size of the smaller drain bolt crush washer located on the crank case cover?

OEM is $8 plus shipping.  I'd imagine I could get something comparable at the hardware store for much cheaper.

That is the coolant drain bolt washer.

I do not think I have ever seen copper crush washers for sale at a hardware store. Did you check with your local dealer to see if they have them?
