KTM 380SX 2025

I agree, I think a larger than 300 two stroke for the mx world has been needed for a while. A true 450 four stroke rival , even when the tracks deep, hills whatever whatever. A no excuse sized two stroke.

big enough cc to make the power needed but also with room to spare so it can be tuned to be “broad and smooth.”

Id pay big money for a factory designed and built 350sx that was carbed

Why would KTM expend the time, money, and energy to satisfy a hand full of “possible” buyers, when if you truly want a big bore KTM, Yamaha, Honda, or whatever brand, BRC or Panthera have you covered and will even build one for you.

Even ktm couldn’t sell  enough last time to keep bothering ,  big bore two strokes have been talked about way more than ever purchased 

After riding a brc yz500 I couldn't get off it fast enuf. Super slow revving. Needed a ton of clutch to get it moving. Hated it. Also rode a 21 ktm brc 500. Better but not for me.

Yep, same as honda,kawy,zook 125.  Everybody says they will buy them.plenty. other new options out there to buy now. 

They don’t even need to try. Shoehorn a counterbalancer into an old 360/380 and stuff it into a new chassis. Would cost KTM group a few handles of schnapps and a weekend of work. 

You know of a surplus of old 360/380 engines somewhere? 

BRC is trash, not even in the same league.

Big bore two strokes ain't it. A 450 four stroke is pretty much as good as it gets for open class bikes. The power is just too linear to be topped by a big bore two stroke. 

I fully support 250f vs 250 two stroke for all competition though. 

Who said “just buy a BRC kit”?

See, I might not necessarily buy a 380, but I still really want them on the showroom floor again. Open class two stoke in a modern chassis, maybe with injection and electric start? Actually, I may have just talked myself into that. Build it!!!

Would be a cool build but you’re dreaming if you think a two stroke of any capacity could compete with a 450 four stroke on a motocross track.

For real. Lots of big talkers though. I'm curious how the sales were on the 300sx. 

Never rode a 380 but the 500 I rode was terrible. CR 500 is the most unstable sketchy bike I have ever ridden  

You guys are right. 20+ years of chassis and suspension progression, EFI, power valves controlled by user selectable map switches, etc would make a new 380 completely unridable and they would have zero interest. 

I had a 2000 model 380 back in the day. It had the PDS shock and handled like it had a hinge in the middle - either tankslapping or fishtailing. But the motor was awesome. One of those in a modern chassis would be great.

I had a 98 250 SX  first year of PDS suspension and as far as handling that thing was downright scary to ride too . Deceleration headshake like I've never experienced before or since . A buddy of mine had a 99 380 MXC . I only took that thing for a few spins across some farm fields but it was a fast bike .  But don't the 300s put out about the same hp as those did ? 

From KTM's perspective how many new buyers would it really attract though? I'd wager the math works out were most of the perspective buyers for a 380 are probably already perspective buyers for the 300 (or 450) in its abstinence. I think they would capture very little new audience.

I think it is rad that KTM has built all sorts of different cc bikes over the years for any little niche and by all means I hope they make one, but I also understand why they wouldn't.

It would be cool, they won't.

Personally, I would want KTM to bring back the 200, for all disciplines, before any other model.

Good lord, ktm make  65, 85, 105, 125, 150, 250, 300, 350, 450 and 500cc dirtbikes and some people are still not happy.

Even back in the day I don't remember them sitting on the dealer floor for long other than maybe the Yamaha's. I am sure some of it was because the dealers didn't order many but they sold every on that hit the floor. Seemed like half the folks road them in the '80's and a bunch in the '90's. I guess the mid '90's when a 250 had enough for most riders did them in. Now with 450 power levels they may stand a better chance.
